Holy shit. God bless you. I live in pennsylvania and this video gave me such an insight as to why this is such a great state to start a home based kitchen. We dont have nearly as much governmental interference as what youve gone through here. I thank the amish for that and thank you for this video. I wish you all the success in the world!
I keep hitting a wall with this, it takes away from the love of baking for me. But! seeing your video gave me a little courage. I am also from Pasadena and a renter. I have a full-time job, and do this for the pure joy of baking. However, i do want to make sure I am following the laws when i do sell a product. I will go search our Pasadena websites to begin the process. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for this wonderful video. One thing I would recommend is providing the link for your Part 1 in the description! It would be easier than having to search for it. Again, very helpful video! Look forward to seeing more :)
I've been playing with the idea of trying this. I live in Washington state and have been doing research on what I need to do. Thank you so much for posting these videos!
@@RandomUserYTisFailing well no it's only been a few months and currently I don't really have the time or supplies I need to accomplish it. It'll take me some time before I get to that point still 😅
Fantastic video! Thanks for the detailed step by step guidance!!!! I know you mentioned selling Macarons from home under the Cottage Food Operation. How are you able to do so? I thought French Macarons are considered perishable because they need to be refrigerated?
Eryn Hines as long as the filling won’t spoil, the cookies don’t mold or anything at room temp. It’s just best to keep the cookie refrigerated, but not necessary.
Hi Nicole, loved your video. i just filled the form for class A license. i got the reply from them. but do not do what to do next. Also its such a fear to start a home bakery. can you do what to do next. i am in santa barbara california
You're video was full of information..thank you!! Questions regarding labels. How were you able to sell your macarons without having them prepackaged? Did you have to individually label your macarons? Thanks again!
Thank you so much yours was the first I have seen where you hit each step as you go . I’m stuck on the label and nutritional facts 😫 Also I do custom sugar cookies and meringue is not approved so now I need to create an alternative to royal icing without meringue powder 🤔
Thank you so much for your videos, you made the process look a lot more clear and concise to me! One thing though, did you do an LLC or some type of insurance?
Hi! I have been told that it isn't necessary to do an LLC unless you hire employees or are looking to hire employees. I got liability insurance as it was mandatory for the farmers market.
Love your tutorials. As for the home business I have run the gambit gathering all the info I needed in my town and state to get started and all is set. I'd like to know if you hired an accountant to figure your deductions for utilities, advertising, internet orders etc. and I would bet you are doing quarterlies for taxes. Any help is appreciated.
Hello! I had a CPA look at it all and because I’m under sole proprietorship, I don’t have to pay quarterly. I just found out a great resource for business info and his name is David and runs a blog and podcast all about cottage food operations!! You can check out forrager.com/
Love your videos! Greetings from the Bay Area! I was wondering about the CA threshold between “baked items” and “custard, cream”. Does that mean a CFO cannot sell anything with egg in it (cupcakes, pound cakes, Italian buttercream) even though it is ‘cooked’ and can safely sit at room temperature, as they do on display in cafes? Understood that egg custard is a no-no...
Nichole thank you for this great series on CFO. Would you recommend a sole proprietorship or LLC (limited liability company) for a home baking business?
Beth Arthur It’s really up to you on that. I went for a sole proprietorship. But an LLC isn’t a bad idea! I definitely recommend liability insurance no matter what though.
Thank you so much!! I was so overwhelmed with a lot of info out there, your video just make me feel and think “is not that difficult, I know I can go through that” all the info was really helpful!! I have a question, hope you can help me, do you know if meringue powder is allowed? I’m in Contra Costa County, Northern California. Thank you so much in advance 😊
According to Arizona's cottage food program, perishable baked goods, milk/dairy products, and egg products are not approved. How then do people sell them from home?? This is very discouraging..
I am planning to open a macaron business here in the Bay Area and I contacted CPHD about approved foods and they say macarons are not approved. I am so confused because I really wanted to start as a home bakery and I see others who can do this):

You bet!! Best of luck! Pasadena has its own health department and you can email them and you’ll need to head over to city hall for the business info!

Great information! Thank you!

These are so incredibly helpful, and make me feel like I can actually do this! Sending you love from San Diego!
So glad to hear this!! Good luck Emi!
Thank you for the detailed information Nicole! That was amazing!
One more question if you don’t mind, so I guess egg whites and butter are ok with CFO? I’m also here in SoCal btw. Thanks Nicole!
Yay, you can use egg whites in your buttercreams?!
Thank you so much for this great series, this is so helpful. 💜

Can you do a visual video on what all the labels should look like? Like a master recipe, etc.

How do you accept payments online, in person, events, etc. I don't want to do cash and was just wondering how you process payments.

Hi thanks for all the great info!!!! Question Can I get a CFO if I live in a apartment?
Yes, I was in a townhouse and renting and I needed permission from the owner of the home, so I’m assuming you’d need permission from your land lord

that's so weird because everyone in bay area is selling macaroons at farmers markets etc. how? ????
Hi is there any reason behind it getting published in the newspaper for four weeks?
If you are not over 18, can your parents do the legal stuff but can you do the baking?
For a Class B Permit can you sell online to people only in your county and ship?
Just wondering what you do with all of those left over egg yolks if your business is Macarons?
peacheria I use mostly pasteurized egg whites.
@@baketoujours Thanks for the response. Do you think this makes better macs, or is this driven by finances or cost reduction in your recipes?
peacheria driven by the desire to limit waste. But I prefer a bit of fresh as well. I do a ratio as seen in my in depth macaron tutorial.
My macarons are getting concave?? What may be the reasons?
Anagha sachin increase the heat in your oven and if you use airbake trays, don’t.

Hi! Do you need a sellers permit?
Thank you
You’re so welcome!
If I've already registered my business as an LLC do I still need a DBA?
It depends on your state, but I have heard in california that you need to get a DBA if you're not operating under your legal name
Anyone from Middle TN have a home bakery business?
This is a great video, but all this paperwork just made me a libertarian
So much bureaucracy. More ways to take money from us 🙄
