The opening ceremony had no religious implications and was a celebration of diversity. France in general works hard to maintain a separation of church and state. It's not always successful, but religion has very little place in politics here. And the French believe whatever god they personally choose.
Yeah for Jess! Such a great friend! Having watched from the comfort of my sofa I knew you were in for more than a little bit of rain. Still a memorable time with good friends was worth it I am sure.
Thanks for bringing us along to see the opening of the boats sailing down the river. As a Canadian, was delighted to see the Canadian team on their boat. Wish the rain could have stayed away. Hope you guys were able to find a warm and dry spot afterwards. Thank you to Jess for making it all happen. It looked like you all had a good time, despite the rain. Now you have to get a new raincoat Jay.
Oh no, you left before the best parts! The end was amazing from the water!!!! 😭 The glowing horse went past, the Olympic torch boat went past, the balloon floating above as Celine got on stage, the floating singing platform that was floating about in the water...so much! As it got dark the vibe was next level. There were a bit less people so it was more comfortable and everyone and a decent view, lots of singing and dancing together 😍
Samee, The ending was the best part! What a unique way to bring the flag and light tbe cauldron. I was so anxious that whole thinking where the cauldron would be.
Thanks for giving us the “Man on the Quay” view. It was cool to see the camera boats, and hearing your crowd singing Le Marseillaise! Thanks too for the bonus Cooper shot! Looking forward to all of your coverage.
Thanks so much Jay. I loved watching this and being able to “catch” a bit of what the vibe was like along the Seine. Watched the opening live from our house in New Zealand and the whole family LOVED it!
We just got back from a month in Paris and it was the quietest we have ever seen the city. By the way, thank you for all of your recommendations so that we could support local businesses. P.S. I lived the “woo!” that Canada got from your group.
So great to see all this from your POV, Jay! Thanks for shooting it and sharing. It is true that our sofa in California was drier, but we did get to see the piano on fire and all the other amazing things that formed the end of the ceremony. The whole thing was spectacular, and made me want to be there RIGHT NOW! Hope the rest of your Olympic adventures continue to be fun and that the cafés and restaurants get back on their financial feet asap.
Thanks so much for filming and sharing your experience! We’ll be there in about nine days. Surprised to hear about the empty restaurants, but hopefully the huge influx of people like us going for the Olympics will take up the slack in restaurant- goers!
Really glad to see this after watching the opening ceremony on tv last night. Glad we didn't go for all this so will just enjoy from our sofa. But keep letting us see it from your point of view please and tell your sweet friend Jess that I always always always recommend her company for tours and have for years. You have really cool friends Jay (and you're cool too).
I watched the opening ceremony at home and was wondering what it would be like to be there in person. Thanks for sharing this vlog! It was so cool to see the local's perspective.
You were braver than me! I had enough of the rain well before the end and went back home to dry off and watch the rest of it on TV (with Gojira and the speeding chevalière and all, it looked more like a made-for-TV event, but I did enjoy the memory it created by going to see it in person too.... Just a shame on TH-cam we can't show all the highlights, which are under IOC broadcasting lock and key.)
So glad you had the opportunity to attend with your buds! Thanks so much for bringing us along! Looking forward to being in Paris next month with my hubby and son (at the tail end of the Olympics - probably going to watch the Closing Ceremonies on the hotel flatscreen lol:-) Our fourth trip to Paris - so excited! Side trip also planned for South of France/Nice. Will continue to check your vlogs for updates as you attend the festivities 🎉 around the city! Enjoy it to the max!!!
I'd have been there had not places to stay been so outrageously priced. I was planning to stay for 17 days but my dream trip was canceled even though now the French are complaining that no one is renting their places. Don't price them so high and I'd have been there. I've been able to sell at a loss the tickets I had for 16/17 events. Charged a handling fee and an exchange rate fee. Really amazing Opening Ceremony with the performers being on point even in the rain. Celine and Lady Gaga were fantastic. Got to see more from the comfort of my couch in Iowa. Hope to still at some point make my first trip to Paris.
Your friend Jess got you & your group into a great party. While my couch was dryer, I most certainly missed out on the atmosphere. Enjoy this special time.
Jay thank you thank you thank you! That was great! And after hearing how expensive the opening ceremony tickets were I’m very happy to hear that free tickets were distributed to locals!
Meant to be that Jess got last minute tickets and you got to go film this! The rain actually made the ceremony look so pretty on tv.. the lights reflecting off of the rain drops, especially during the 'Imagine' performance and the Eiffel tower scenes near the end.
Bro I really just wanna give you props , not just for all your 🔥🔥 content but for even remembering to mention the Paralympic Games as incoming still to Paris ! Be safe and have fun my guy ✊🏿 #WeLikeGettinWet
Your video gave me a whole different perspective from what we saw on TV. I appreciated the boat parade better, seeing the view you guys had from the standing room area. You made it easy to feel the festive atmosphere. (NBC here was just a lot of Kelly Clarkson cooing "Amazing!" and Peyton Manning saying, "I'm just thinking about the athletes.") Well, duh. Wish you would have stayed till the flame/balloon launch but I know -- the rain. Thanks for videoing this.
I kept wondering when it was going to go up, but I also don't regret leaving when we did. Would have been super cool to see in person but it would have been another hour + standing in the rain watching a screen 😆☔ Glad you enjoyed it!
Lots of people are trying really hard to have fun. It's probably a good day to go to a museum. At least it's not raining inside a museum unless the roof is leaking.
The Parisians are the smartest ones, getting out of town - they've read, seen, and heard plenty about the experiences of previous Olympic host cities' Hope they visit Britain, and not just London.
It was really helpful seeing this. Because I don't have cable tv, I only see bits and pieces of the opening ceremony. Seeing it from your perspective was pretty interesting. Is Jess wearing a Withings watch? The only french activity tracking watch I think.
london shur down too for 2012. whole of central london was a ghost town. spectators was all out at the park. lots of very bored attendants at underground stations
I was so excited to see this, Jay, because I was so curious about whether you would see the opening ceremony. I’m sorry about the businesses. :/. And, wow that guy was death staring you at the metro entrance! 😂 And, yes, it was warm and dry in DC, but how about Celine Dion! Woah, amazing.
LoL! Well, you are talking to all of us! You need cards to hand to people with your VLOG information! Just hand them the card, welcome them to the channel and ask them to subscribe. Ha. They can see themselves in action!
i watched from start to finish from my couch in NYC and wow, it was spectacular! So lucky that Jess scored those tix! What did other Parisians think? They seem to be so hard to please/ impress, I hope they were equally wowed and feel proud of what Paris was able to pull off.
i'm so surprised businesses are down and tourism is down in france. i thought the olympics would boost that like crazy with people coming in to see the games. some said it would be the worst time to visit paris for tourism during olympics since everything will be double the price
The preemptive price gouging was a big factor for sure. Unfortunately the signs that things would ultimately be calm were here for as long though. Hopefully everyone pulls through!
Awesome job Jay! Was watching from home here in the PACA region and I'm still debating on whether or not I should pop up to Paris to see what it's like at the moment given what you were saying about it being void of most tourists. I don't have an event ticket or a real reason to go other than just pure curiosity as I've been to Paris many times in the past 😅
Thank you for sharing your Olympic event. Made me glad I didn’t go.😂 I almost bought a $5000 ticket not counting airfare. I can not handle rain tho I would have enjoyed meeting some new friends. Question: Did you see the Maria Antonette number? Not sure I liked it. But maybe I just did not understand? 🤔. Most of the music was terrific. 🌴🌴Aloha I watched on my dry Hawaiian couch. 😂
I got out of Paris the day after they closed the roads. 😮Nobody around all of a sudden. Leaving eerie, but Paris at night was magical walking around ile wear we stay. Never will that happen again. So still. The residents had a little party down by water. I do know and feel bad about the how Parisians worried about business. Anyways my bike -riding husband is loving the organized and group rides and the peloton cafe. Great ppl and community. We got bike through them so no need to bring the bike 🚴♂️. They are awesome. that’s super cool you are participating and going to events. 🇫🇷❤
So glad that there is a very large and highly trained police presence there in Paris for the 2024 Olympics. It may be a hassle to wait in long lines but could be expected ahead of time if you really wanted to attend. Better too much protection than not enough given the fact that France has experienced terrorist attacks in the past. 😢
I'll dig in more as time goes on I'm sure. So far it seems to have driven us to some all time lows for visitors and spending. Hopefully we recoup some next year 🤞
It looked very damp. Viewing on tv in Engerland it looked a tad spread out for those actually there. A bit limited. I await your coverage of the Winter Olympics in 2028? Terrifying image re budgie smugglers

I mean, well, one of the times the boos were definitely called for because Perry Baker did something kinda rude in rugby (not touching the ball for the try to pull out more time), ok, that one was called for, but all the other times, I never understood it, like the boos against Argentina only made sense because of what happened at the rugby world cup, but I was, well, maybe I was being a bit naive that there would be some solidarity, I mean there are a bunch of us Franco-Americains here, it kinda made me want to hide in a corner a bit and not admit I was from the US, lol, I wore my university gear though because I was trying to be country neutral, and of course it was only a few US people that recognized it. But the only thing I hated was trying to get home after, I live off the RER B so I had no option but to take it home, and oh my gawd it was chaotic, but I guess anything there is a full house at Stade de France it's gonna be that bad on RER B
It would have been great had it been fully open. We got in for free though - it was more that they had to restrict access for security. Thankfully everything panned out.
@@Baracuda-xj6zk I am curious what groups put that rude on? Did it cost them to have them? Was it the Olympic committee? If a Christian, Jewish or Muslim group wanted group wanted could they? Something tells me no….
It was a Bacchus/Dionysus banquet ! As french like foot, wine and cool life. The blue man was the antique god. For the girl in that scene, we have very strict laws about child working in spectacle. She was certainly supervised during the show and her participation was approved by the authorities.
@@brigittelacour5055 it could have been about whatever subject, but they deliberately decided to put these weirdos in the scene to promote this gender insanity. And they still wonder why Europe is getting more right politically. I'll gladly support those who'll put a stop to this indoctrination.
You're far better at informing us than the official broadcasts, Jay.
Jess is so wholesome. Everyone needs a friend like Jess

Warmed up eventually haha. And yeah, who knew a summer rain coat was a requirement?
Loved two things in this vlog. The Sonics hat and the energy Jess brought to this video.
She rules
The guy super confused about you "talking to yourself" had me laughing so much 😂 looking forward to watch the Olympic vlogs! 🥰
He was v confused 😆

Thanks for giving us the “Man on the Quay” view. It was cool to see the camera boats, and hearing your crowd singing Le Marseillaise! Thanks too for the bonus Cooper shot! Looking forward to all of your coverage.
Sadly Cooper bonus shots are about all the Olympics are going to allow 😆
This video is a wonderful addition to the official opening ceremonies coverage because you showed us the on-the-street perspective.
Fantastic video! You'll remember that day/night for the rest of your life. Thanks for letting us all tag along!
I liked your vlog better than anything I've seen on NBC!
Wow, thanks!
