Thanks for watching Paris in my Pocket's installment on the 8th arrondissement, hope you enjoyed it! Grab all my recommendations (oh so many more than this) in my guide at parisinmypocket.com and thank you to my Patrons as always, for making it possible for me to do this every day!

Two things: 1) Liked the French interlude with French Laura. Paris really is all about grabbing a drink, sitting on a terrace with a friend, watching the city go by and simply being present. 2) long time ago, I worked at a dessert place and the owner spent a considerable amount of time in Paris and brought back weird and wonderful underground/alternative/chill music to play at the restaurant. A few of those CD volumes were from the Buddha Bar and we were all a little obsessed. It totally got me hooked into that genre (always appropriate at dinner parties).

I never knew that about the hierarchy of Hausmannian architecture. You never stop learning eh! Good point about just enjoying the city , wherever you end up. Cheers Jay!

Tanisha, Girl meets glass, is fabulous. We have booked with her to explore wine and wine bars. You are in good hands with Tanisha as she shares hidden gems in Paris. I highly recommend if you want to explore and enjoy wine tasting. ❤

great episode Jay! I liked the explanation of "Haussmann" style architecture; it would make logical sense also with heat rising, the upper floors would be hotter without air-conditioning. So the 2nd or 3rd floor would be ideal especially with taller ceilings😎

Oh, this is gonna be a fun one. 😂 I can already hear Jay pleading for people to avoid the Champs Élysée like the plague. Hey, there’s always Parc Monceau is in the 8th! I think? 🤔

The Buddah Bar brings back memories of utterly debauched nights being 'misspent' back in the early 2000's when I first arrived in Paris. The place was popping. Haven't been back in almost two decades, but I'm glad to see it looks exactly the same as it used to inside.

After watching this tour of the 8th, we watched your original tour of the 8th as part of your original 20 in 20...it brought back great memories of the reddish sunglasses, the sense of movement that was part of filming while on the wheel...fun to revisit the young Jay.

Stayed in the 8th in April--arrived on Easter to a charming boutique hotel with the beautiful St. Augustin right outside our window (it was packed on Easter Sunday). Agree that the 8th doesn't seem to have the most dining options, but we enjoyed that very Noir café and several other spots in the area. We found it a convenient location between Montmartre and the river, and accessible to the opera & lovely dining & city views atop Galerie Printemps. We also enjoyed returning to the comparative quiet after all the crowds elsewhere. To each their own, I guess?

    Hi Jay
    Great channel!!!
My wife and I are visiting Paris a week before XMAS. We have never been so I found a seemingly nice hotel ( san regis) in the 8th arrondisement. We are looking to simply enjoy the city and not see everything in 4 days. For our purposes, it this a decent place in a decent area? Thanks!!

Hello Marie! Our site is safe with secure payment, we use stripe as a payment processor. We're working on a multi-currency option in the future, but this is what we have for now, and it's perfectly safe for purchases from anywhere in the world!

Air pollution, basically it is what destoyed every monument in the larger cities in the world. In the mid 80's even the UN produced stacks of reports. Sadly the fossil fuel industry had their way. And the price has yet to be paid. 😢
