Kind hearted yes, but also the responsible thing to do. Bees are dying off at alarming rates and we need them. Bumblebees pollinate tomatoes.

Wow!!! Laura and Aaron combining cutting edge technology with agriculture to protect our beneficials is wonderful!!! I work at a career center, and we have programs for 3d printing, web design, animal systems, along with natural resources only to name a few. I am always trying to find ways to show how the programs can be interconnected and this video showing how technology can be so effective in saving our plants and at the same time protecting our beneficials is the true message. I plan to show this video to some of our instructors so they can use it as an educational tool in their programs. It is important for young students to visualize how their future career goals also have an ecosystem of their own!!!
I’m a micro flower farmer here in the Willamette Valley. I LOVE this!! Our native pollinators need us, we’re loosing them. This is so awesome that you decided to use beneficials instead of ANY type of spray. This really helps spread good information that is desperately needed. AMAZING❤️🌻👨🏻🌾💐

When we lived in El Paso,Tx we went to a Ladybug release held by a local Pecan Farm. They hold one every year to open the season and they make it a family event. Families bring their lawn chairs and blankets. Children get to run around and play. Then they bring out bags of ladybugs and the children get to open them and release them. I thought it was a great idea to bring awareness to the community and that was the first time I learned how beneficial ladybugs are to the ecosystem. 🐞

THIS IS SO COOL! I love that Aaron used his drone to get footage and I love love love that you are saving the sleeping bumblebees. I am having a huge bee year too and they are SO CUTE sleeping on/in flowers, like they got drunk on nectar and just decided to rest. So far (fingers crossed) bribing my huge bird population with seed has kept the pests down. If only they would scare off the tomato stealing raccoons!

It has been a really big bee year for me as well, especially the bumbles. I catch them hanging out and snoozing under leaves and flowers - now I know they are the males.😉🐝

Make your own ghost pepper or jalapeño spray. Boil water then put hot seeds in it. When it cools, strain and bottle the water. Spray on your tomato plants and around the yard. Raccoons will leave them alone. Apply again after it rains!
I don’t know why but Aaron’s drone footage (with accompanying music) of the drone in action drove me to tears! It was so well done and I found myself thinking how far we have come and how my parents and grandparents (all farmers and of course simple gardeners) would never have imagined such a thing. Well done Laura and Aaron for striking a chord!
I would say what a good sport for being on camera but imagine all the additional attention he's getting to his business! The garden answer impact.

This is exactly the approach I have hoped you would ultimately take in your gardening journey. My father in law was an entomologist who worked in education at the university level, but also for Colorado Extention Service here in the grand valley of Grand Junction, CO, primarily with the orchards. Getting growers on board with this method was always his goal, leaving harmful pesticides a thing of the past. It is not an easy goal to accomplish a lot of the time, but with exposure and education, it is definitely a far greater way to proceed.

THIS!!! I am over the moon they're trying natural methods now. They have such a massive following and the spraying was definitely influencing others which completely broke my 🤍. In fact I stopped watching for a while because of it.

A lot of other wild bees sleep wherever too, so it's great to eliminate spraying as much as possible

I personally had great success battling the aphids in my vegetable garden with ladybug larvae I ordered. In 2 weeks all the aphids were gone.

I learned about the sleeping bumble bees in a flower, when I went to snip some flowers one evening from my garden. I grabbed at the somewhat " closed" bloom to get a surprise stinger in my hand. Surprise...😂
I really appreciate the practice of stewardship of the precious pollinators in our environment. They reward us (and our livestock) with an abundance of food! Thank you Laura!

Wow! I have honey bees, wish the big corn farmers around here would turn to this method. I lost 7 hives of bees one year to them spraying insecticide. I sometimes have to use insecticides myself but am very careful in what (organic) and when I use them. Thanks for sharing. Hope this idea continues to grow and becomes widely used. NC
Sorry you lost so many bees one year due to pesticides. We need bees! Is there any way to educate the farmers in your area about the use of beneficials? If not the farmers maybe the local extension office? Someone has to start caring about limiting the use of pesticides without questioning the effects on all of us.
I'm in southern NJ and my neighbor who raises bees told me that farms within a certain distance have to notify her if they are spraying. Maybe she's registered somewhere? This was a few years ago that she told me. Interestingly, one farm now has their own bees for selling honey and they help with pollination. I imagine they completely changed up how they deal with pests.

I've been using mites and such for some of the pests in my garden. It's helped a lot. The pests didn't fully disappear, but they're few enough that my plants don't die anymore. I have used ladybug larvae before. Had a ton of aphids last year, hardly any this year :) Here in the Netherlands they only sell one type of (native) ladybug

I am so happy to see GA trying this approach and thank you for bringing us along. I have been practicing a little patience and letting lady beetles and lacewings handle the aphids this year. I am having less success handling spider mites, so I will be looking into buying predatory mites. I have been focusing on attracting beneficial bugs, so will add buying to the arsenal.

Im in ontario Canada (small town) and we have a Koppert warehouse/lab here in my town. They use them in the greenhouses. Cool. I always notice too, that when we buy annual flower baskets here, they have the koppert tags hanging on the hanging baskets of certain flowers.

Yes, the company is actually Dutch, from Netherlands. They have places all around the world, including my small town, but I'm going to assume it's because we are the greenhouse capital of Canada (Leamington ON). I'm not too sure how long each packet lasts, but I always just keep it on, and I never have a problem with bugs :)

This is so informative. We used beneficial nematodes for some problems in our grass. His drone and application was interesting to see. The overhead view of your property is gorgeous.
Laura---after your pond is finished, you should buy some native frogs and toads for it. Then, get a bunch of solar lanterns around your gardens. The frogs will be natural pest killers! They're so good for the garden.
It is pretty amazing how local amphibians will find a new water source. They won't need to buy anything like that. Frogs and Lizards will simply appear on their own. It's so cool!

Yesterday, while watching Jim Putnam(?) talk about pests, I walked out on my porch to see little black things (aphids) on a few of my Nasturium leaves. Eradicated that. Hours later in another video I heard Laura say she plants Nasturium near roses, since aphids love Nasturium.☺️ Thank you for all you do for all of us!

I'm eliminating harmful chemicals from my lawn and gardens! I posted this video on my Facebook page, so that my friends and family will become aware too. I'm so very disappointed that poisonous, cancer causing chemicals are still sold in every garden center and big store retailers. A lot of them are band in Europe. For years now I haven't been using chemicals for my lawn. I'm going to start gardening in raised beds. This information was so helpful. As more chemicals are being added into our food chain; we all need to be aware and responsible consumers. Thank you for posting this video! This is the beginning for many of us.

As a former grower we had 30'X96' hoop houses that had 3 sets of A-frames made out of conduit (4 rungs) that held several hundred hanging baskets. In one house we grew impatient and double impatiens only. Well guess what THRIPS love! Almost lost the entire crop and quickly learned about thrips (had never seen nor dealt with these nasty plant eating bug bugs before). Then my plant/seed salesman walked in and immediately diagnosed my problem, and since this was many years ago we did use chemicals to spray😢, after a few applications bugs gone and plants rejuvenated, yay! I love, love watching how these kind of problems can now be taken care of naturally😊. 30 years later I'm still learning ing, mainly through Garden Answer, my favorite channel with amazing owners like Laura and Aaron ❤

It must be heavy to have only 15 minutes of battery life. SO INTERESTING! My issue here in IL zone 5b is Japanese beetles and I have tried every home remedy I can find. And I just had to mention how adorable the little tea set next to you at the end when you recapped the process! Just the cutest and shows that your shopping trips with Mom for the bistro sets are so perfect!

I've noticed that when I was spraying really late, I was still seeing bumble bees. I pretty much stopped because of that. Really glad to follow your journey as you try bumble-safe solutions!
