My hubs was like that at the local nursery the other day. He doesn’t get into landscaping but zeroed in on a Thuja Whipcord at a hefty price tag. I’m the one paying for our trees so I was like ok (inwardly thinking there goes my budget.😳

There's only one problem with buying a mature tree. By the time Laura and Aaron are in their 70s and '80s they will be having to take the trees down, maybe even their fifties I don't know how old the trees are or how long they live. There's something to be said about planting a tree and watching it grow.

@@vlrissolo trees can live to be hundreds of years old! Unless they get damaged in a storm or by pests they will likely be there for many years!
What I learned most from this video is that Aaron is not the person to take shopping if you are looking to exercise control. What a fun trip and you picked some great trees guys. Can't wait to see how they fit into the landscape.

I’ve been watching your videos for many years, and I had a baby in April. Every morning I would watch your videos while nursing, and I was just itching to get outside in those early days. Baby is now 6months old and we still watch your videos while he’s having his bottle in the morning. BUT NOW🙌🏻 baby smiles every time he sees Laura’s face on screen! We/I say “isn’t she pretty!” And he grins from ear to ear!

This is definitely Aaron's favorite part! "Let's get it!" "You want this one?" "I'll mark this one too!" Love it! Question, will you need a saw to harvest those huge wolf pumpkins? I'm so impressed by the stems. Also an idea. I grew pumpkins on the Gardener's Supply Titan A frame trellis because I don't have as much space and it worked well. It might help in the maze garden.
Benjamin is so lucky to have a parent that not only teaches him in a very kind way but so enjoys their time with him.
My first thought at the view of the tree farm: “Aaron’s gonna need a bigger roll of tape!” Such awesome trees there and he truly gets excited about them. So fun to watch. 👍🌲

A couple multiple trunk Birch trees grouped together like that by the Hartley would look so pretty and beyond perfect!! 😁😍 it would add such a magical feeling without being out of the realm of your garden because you already have some birches! 😊 The light coming through those looked stunning! You are definitely not 'garden cheating' I work at a nursery and tell folks all the time, buying big trees is the only time in our lives we can 'buy time', if you have the budget for it. You only live once. You guys are the best and so excited for your new trees, thanks for being so awesome. Happy Fall🍂🍁
Working at a nursery would be my dream job, except that I would probably be handing over my paycheck every week from buying plants!! 😂😂
I used to invite my sons friends to choose a pumpkin in our patch and when they were about a third of the way to what I thought would be harvest size I would have them take wooden toothpicks and scratch their names on it. As it grows the scarring widens and they would have a very personal pumpkin! Enjoy these days of parenting Laura and Aaron as it will be the memories that squeeze your heart in old age.💝

Quick question do you ever think about growing Ur pumpkins vertically. It's something I may be doing in the future due to size and quality. Imagine your arch covered in squash 😍
Growing pumpkins verticality? How would you support the fruit? I do that with small melons but then I support the fruit. I can’t imagine trying to support a twenty pound pumpkin off the ground.

First I have to say that Samantha’s flamingos still make me smile when I see them. It’s amazing to think that the Maze Garden was just a barren area when you started planting. I’m sure it has given your family a ton of enjoyment. Can’t wait to see all those glorious trees planted. What a cooling affect they will bring to your gardens.

My almost 4month old daughter and I watch your channel every day. I wanted to let you know she just lights up when I turn it on. Just the biggest smile on her face. I would love to start with those big beautiful Norways! For now, I will just continue to nurture my baby Norways that are a whopping 10 inches tall 😂 Started them from bare root.
Aaron's enthusiasm for trees is contagious. We are landscaping a large property in the Willamette Valley and we have planted quite a lot of trees so far and more to come! We are on gardening season two for our property, and when we bought it, it was a blank slate with almost no landscaping. It looked like a house plopped down in the middle of a hay field! We are doing all the things like you! We have built a cut flower shed and a two story barn. Most days I think I'm crazy! Thank you for the inspiration, because I don't feel alone in this massive project we have going.
Whoa! I was just as excited as you both touring the tree farm! I was yelling Yes! THAT one! At the screen. My husband & I toured a local tree farm last spring and were just as giddy. We came home with 2 crabapples but had to tear ourselves away from getting more. Tree envy. It's real! And that nursery tape in any gardener's hands is a dangerous thing. Can't wait to see them planted!
Also cutting off some of those overshadowing pumpkin leaves will help them color up faster.

i bet the tree farm owner is so happy when you two show up! lol.. .Aaron is a hoot out there, tagging all the trees with Laura trying to rein him in just a smidge... i love love love the kids' garden and all the secret spaces they have out there; how fun and what a memory for them... i wish i had land to grow pumpkins.. i've thought of planting them on the green space behind my house and then just sharing them with the landscapers who tend to it, thinking they might help me keep the secret from the HOA, hahaha... ah well, this is why i can watch GA and see the thrill of the harvest.. what a fun video!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤

We are working through the process of building a house and I have to tell you, I have my tree orders planned (hello baby blue spruce) and my great room is for sure going to be thunder gray 😂❤

Laura, today is the first day in a week I have been able to watch your TH-cam videos since my hometown was ravaged by Hurricane Ian. Because of you and your videos, I decided to start a vegetable garden in 2021 and this year I started a few cut flowers from seed. My gardens were thriving and glorious and I had just bought and planted a ton of pro cut sunflowers that were also getting some size on them. Then in just one day, September 28th, 2022, it was all gone! All of my hard work, fertilizing, pruning, love and care, vanished as we literally rode the inside eye wall for HOURS! Except for one planter that I hid in our front vestibule. It had some celosia, petunia, vinca, and a dwarf dahlia . I was so excited to see what the dahlia was going to look like bc it’s a mystery seed packet! Well just a few days after the water subsided and the sky had cleared, it bloomed! Just a few little yellow dahlias gave me the motivation to get out there and start again. Well those and getting to watch your videos again today. We still don’t have power, but I think Verizon has fixed some of their towers because I was able to get onto You Tube! I’m so thankful for all that you do, and how much you motivate me to keep trying to learn all I can about plants and get stuff in the ground! We had all lived together for six years. They moved about two hours away and I have just been a wreck missing my grandbabies so much. your videos have brought me much joy and distraction. Hey Aaron maybe develop the newest property into a woodland area with some water creeks through it from Greg and his crew and then have a little meadow area for picnic with the kids and maybe a tent for camping out. My aunt just bought an 'Autumn Blaze' maple tree and it'll be delivered and planted on the 20th. Before watching this video, I told her of all the trees you've planted this year. I said nearly 50, but after this trip (I thought you said you were only buying 3) I'll have to amend that number. Are you approaching 100?
I got my garlic 🧄 planted today. We're expecting a hard frost in a day or so. One farmer warned planting garlic too early makes the biannual think it's in second year growth so it works more on producing flowers (seeds). This is my first experience. I hear it's the easiest crop to grow. Fingers crossed squirrels 🐿️ don't dig them out. I guess mulch goes on closer to frost.

My unwritten rule is learn from the experience of growing something from seed, small, bulbs, etc
After the experience and learning I feel comfy getting to enjoy a fully mature plant as well. Mature plants and trees need loving homes too.😉

We're headed for 88 degrees today which is SO much better than 90 and 100 from previous weeks. And those flower beds invaded by pumpkins look so wonderful!
