  • This week on Buckle Up, Jasper gets his hands on the latest generation of the Kia Sportage to try and figure out why it's the fifth best-selling cars in the UK. In GT-Line S trim with the hybrid powertrain, Jasper will examine every part of this family crossover to work out why it's a hit with the British Public.
    Competing against the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, MG ZS, BMW X3, Audi Q3, Skoda Kodiaq, Seat Ateca, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mercedes Benz GLC, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Volvo XC60, Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, Renault Kadjar and the Lexus UX, why is it the Sportage fares so well? In the competitive mid-sized crossover segment it's a race to the top in terms of tech, price and economy - so how does it do?

It’s really a complete package - not to forget the superior reliability only second to lexus/toyota. I think now after mercedes and Audi - I finally have found my loyal brand.

    Brilliant, very detailed I'm grateful to you, perfect explanation. The mild hybrid is where I will be going. This will be the make & model car I will be getting when my Volvo C30 2009 model dies on me, my current car has the CD disc player I will miss that when I go buy a new model vehicle I'm so gutted about that, that is what I will miss most. It's a shame that the Kia Seltos isn't available in the UK as it's more compact a tad shorter than the Sportage that would have been my preferred model.

    Annoying parts: 1) people on back must use seat belt , why car starts to make sound
    2) no light when you open the mirror on sun shades
    3) where to put your sun glass
    4) cable car play
    5) to open back door first you must open front door
    6) to open bagage door autoly, you must Press hand brake button

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      1) A legal requirement in a lot of countries, plus they save lives, why would you not want to wear one?
      2) There were lights
      3) Annoyingly, no sunglasses holder. We'd suggest a case and putting them in the centre armrest.
      4) Annoying yes, but less likely to cause overheating than wireless charging whilst using wireless car play?
      5) Not true, and possibly down to how the unlocking/locking process is configured.
      6) Can't comment on this as didn't have a situation where I tried it, but seems sensible to make sure the car doesn't move when you are opening the boot?

    At 7:20 you point out this is a high spec Sportage and praise it's quality; it would be interesting to know what a mid-spec version is like given that is what most people will buy. I watched this review as I'm getting a vehicle through Motability and was considering a Qashqai and Sportage amongst others. You need to bear in mind the spec for the price. You maybe able to get a higher spec Qashqai than an equivalent priced Sportage.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't driven the PHEV in the Sorento, but have driven the equivalent powertrain before in another vehicle. If you want the additional power offered by the PHEV over the HEV, and have access to at-home/at-work charging, I'd go PHEV. Otherwise the HEV is an excellent all-rounder.

    Own the full spec since 6 months or so. The safety tech is absolutely horrible. The smallest distance on the cruise control fits the QE2 between yourself and the car in front of you. While changing lanes to overtake the cruise control takes halve a decade to pick up speed. Steering assist will scream at you every minute to hold your hands on the steering wheel even if… you already have your hands on the wheel. Makes the Sportage un drive-able. Which is sad for an otherwise excellent car. Additionally KIA has completely missed the mark by not giving buyers the choice to opt for the larger Sportage that is sold in the rest of the world except in Europe.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The minimum safe following time as per the Highway code is 2 seconds, at motor way speeds that means a distance of over 60 metres, the system will have been set up to reflect safety standards. In a similar vein the acceleration will have been calibrated to offer good fuel economy, if you wish to go faster you can use the accelerator. There is a deep irony in calling a car undrivable because it wants you to keep your hands on the wheel.
      If you want a larger seven seat vehicle Kia offers the Sorento, my guess is they did not with to cannibalise its sales.
      Thanks for watching!

      @ramonschliszka6332 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuckleUpShow never heard so much bs in my life. Asking the driver to keep his hands on the while he already has both hands on the wheel is just stupid. The two second rule is great but tell this all the assholes diving in the gap between two cars. It results in an emergency brake reaction endangering the cars behind me. It’s a nice car but this looks more like a commercial than a test.

It oversees Motability Operations Ltd, which runs the Motability Scheme intended to enable disabled people, their families and their carers to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair, using their disability benefit. According to its response to a UK Government inquiry in 2019 into enhancing mobility for disabled citizens, Motability had over 620,000 customers.[1] According to Citizen's Advice, access to the charity's support to pay for a car is dependent on eligibility relative to mobility conditions in government schemes, including: Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement.[2] Motability's 2019/2020 audit document reported 94% of persons using Motability's scheme to buy a car either have a physical disability or long term health condition.
