Here's another anti haul - Drinkfinity. They're just like Keurig K-Cups but are meant to flavor your water so you stay hydrated. I keep seeing their advertisement all over Facebook!
Shelbizleee heres another anti haul : perserve razors they claim to be eco friendly but the blades arent recyclable this company doesn't realize they're creating waste
Some customers and or staff use both ends of the single use spoons which is slightly better! That's great you went to an ice cream store that used metal spoons :)
Sorry just had to say Poundland is the British version of dollar stores. Love your videos I have started getting into zero waste and minimalism and I have been pesketarian for 3 years now (because I’m still under 18) but it is all because of you❤️
Angela Black there’s this thing called a Makeup Eraser, it’s like a microfiber cloth and all you do it’s wet it and it melts off your makeup with just water. Is it the best alternative to makeup wipes? No, it still comes in plastic packaging but honestly I think the pay off is so much better because you can use it over and over again. When it gets dirty all you do is pop it into the washing machine with your other towels and boom, it’s clean, and it doesn’t transfer any makeup onto your other linens. They come is a bunch of different sizes and patterns for different occasions. Try it out. Think about how much plastic and just waste you’ll be saving.
Angela Black .....just use a regular makeup wipe dispenser? Why does it need to be individually packaged? Makeup wipes even come in travel sized but still way more sensible packaging. So it isn’t really a space issue since a lot (if not most) make up wipe dispensers are extremely compact in like a small square or rectangle. So I Still don’t see how it’s necessary. Like at all. Also, Florida is freaking HOT🔥. If u know ur gonna sweat it off anyway, why wear makeup that’s gonna melt? Maybe lighter or no makeup is more sensible? But idk ur personal life, but regardless of ur makeup choices the packaging still makes absolutely no sense.
I'm in my 60's and I do send thank-you cards and I usually send them to friends my own age. It is a generational thing and it's dying out in favor of things like email and that's ok too. Times change. Recently a veterinarian took care of my cat for me when I had to be admitted to the hospital. He did it on short notice and free of charge because I'm poor. We don't even know each other but he did that for me. I sent him a very heart felt thank you card. Sometimes it isn't a mindless waste of paper.
For sure :) I was thinking the same thing. I love snail mail, and I appreciate the distinction between doing something like that en masse because you feel like you have to versus it actually being personal and important and sweet. ❤
I read somewhere that tradition is just peer pressure from dead people and I totally agree with that. Gratitude and sentiment don't have to require paper and postage.
A super duper wasteful thing I noticed: ll these diy/hacks videos on the internet suggesting to do super wasteful stuff like cutting up perfectly good clothes and make crappy ones out of them using hot glue, printing t shirts by ironing printed paper wrapped in nylon on them and sticking single use period pads to your shirt under your armpits to absorb sweat.
Shashooitz Yesss.... I was going to comment the same thing. You said it better. A few of them wil show up on my explore page on Instagram and most of them are wasteful and a waste of time watching.
YES! I saw a video recently of someone putting together something out of all newly purchased clothes and materials and had the nerve to refer to it as 'upcycling'
I recently took a trip and there was a pool in our airbnb. A friend suggested buying floaties. Instead of buying some just for one trip, I just borrowed some from my sister. She has plenty of them and uses them quite a bit. Borrowing stuff is so easy and much less wasteful, I don't understand why people don't do it more.
In my country (Serbia) we color our eggs with red onion peels for purple, onion peels for orange, and some other plants for green etc. For most of our eggs we decorate them with plants,we tie them to the egg and that way the plant imprints on the egg so we avoid plastic and chemical-loaded colors. There's always an alternative. And it saves money.
We colour them in America too, but the plastic ones are used to put candy in. Basically, we have the painted actual eggs and candy-filled plastic eggs.
My sister has three kids and she teaches them all to send thank you cards when they receive gifts from the rest of the family. It is really a sweet practice and I'm super thankful for it. They do it differently though; they hand make the notes using pieces of the paper their gifts were wrapped in; Which in my case is newspaper/sales ads. They combine all three notes in one envelope. They live in Illinois and we live in Florida, so they put all the thank you notes headed to Florida in one envelope and we divy them up when they get here. It's not zero waste because there is the stamp and envelope, but it is a much better way to do it than everybody getting their own individual envelope/stamp/and brand new card.
My family got so angry at me for not sending out thank you cards to people who came to my grad party 3 years ago. It got brought up this Christmas how rude I was for not doing it. I literally thanked everyone as they left and I felt no shame lol.
Christin Christin I get it that it's a tradition or whatever to send thank you notes but if they really need that piece of paper in the mail to be satisfied that they went and will be angry if they don't get it, they shouldn't have come. I find it kind of selfish and insulting if they get angry, like theyre not actually there because they genuinely care. If they did they wouldn't get upset. Idk
Jel Kel I'm not inviting them to my (hypothetical future) wedding because I don't need to send out a thank you card if they weren't invited in the first place
There was so much going on after my wedding I completely forgot to make the handmade thank you cards I’d planned to make. Been guilting myself for 7years- no more! They would have read it and trashed it. I said thank you in person, why was that not enough?
What bothers me is when you buy something “zero waste” like produce bags and the packaging is either plastic or has plastic 🤦🏼♀️ makes me so mad. Or bamboo toothbrushes that are covered in shrink wrap. Love the video and also I love your hair ❤️
@Angela Black I think they meant when you buy reusable produce bags, they often come packaged in plastic and that's frustrating. I don't think they were talking about the plastic produce bags available for free use in grocery stores.
I bought mine off amazon and they were called kitchenwise. I got organic cotton reusable grocery bags with metal beads and they came in a cardboard tube. Another brand I looked at was purifyou.
Poundland is a British brand and yeah, when that "gift of nothing" was released, there was a huuuuge uproar here, and it actually introduced some people who weren't into eco living to the idea of zero waste, so I guess there was one positive of it 😂
I knew what it was because of a British youtuber I watch chalking it up to be similar to the dollar store But the way she said poundland as if it were some taboo company was absolutely hilarious
i live in poland and we do not have this habit/tradition/thingymajig of tasting ice cream at ice cream shops. i've never seen anyone do it, i've never done it myself. you usually know your taste and what you generally like anyway so you just pick the flavour and hope for the best :D so, from my experience: just don't taste the ice cream! it's ice cream! it's good anyway! ha
I went to one and they used regular mini spoons! I was so excited. And yeah I live in the us and people usually use the mini plastic ones. I always get cones now and go for flavors I know I’ll love to refuse waste lol
I'm in Canada and I only recently started seeing this, though maybe because I'm from a small town? Or maybe I just never noticed it because it wasn't a big thing but as a kid we just... bought the ice cream to try it, like most other products?
I love thank you cards and keep them in a binder. I look through them years later. Just like my grandma I guess. It reminds me of people and experiences that I’ve had and joy we’ve shared.
Another incredibly wasteful thing is wedding dresses I would like to rent the dress I want to get married in, and I want it to be black. If you knew how many people have had a lot of opinions about it when I told them. But that's my wedding, it's so stupid with all the transitions people expect one to carry on.
@@stina9659 That's such a good idea! 17 years later my dress sits in my closet, nagging at me to decide what to do with it. Wish I could have just taken it back to the store, saving me the headache. Good plan! :)
Hey Shelbi, just an idea, but on your anti-hauls, you could put links in the description for alternative products, when fitting. Like the reusable batteries you mentioned. I googled them afterward because I honestly hadn't thought about that, and I was like "Ooo, if she has an affiliate link, I'll use that." (Gotta get that coin girl! Hehe) I know this was a sponsored post, so you may not be able to use affiliate links in this case. But an added idea nonetheless :)
Good point! I've actually been meaning to do that so I will work on that this week. Also, I reaally really appreciate you understanding the value in using one of my affiliate links. Thank you so so much ❤
@@Shelbizleee always! Any way I can support my favorite creators, I'm happy to. Especially if I'm going to be buying it anyway. You should benefit from making the suggestion!
The WORST thing with plastic is lol dolls..there literally wrapped in plastic then there's toys hidden between every layer of plastic and there wrapped in plastic too!!
Yes! I watched an opening of one on TH-cam (to see what they were) and at the end my husband turned to me and said, “that is the most wasteful thing I’ve ever seen.”
I may be wrong but I think single use batteries were available before the rechargeable ones. At least I remember when I first saw rechargeable batteries the single use one were around way before that that we have been using since i can remembering.
I also can't stand easter grass. It's not even easy to clean up. It clogs the vacuum, it's just a nightmare. And balloons. I hate them. It irks me so bad to see little bits of water balloons in the park where animals can eat them.
stephanie m oh yes balloons!! I once came into a house of a family I babysat for, and they had just celebrated a birthday... there were balloons everywhere. The kind that also has helium in them too. I was so afraid they would release them, luckily they didn’t on the days that I worked there, but on my days off the balloons were “taken care of” because when I came back they were no were to be found. The toddlers kept asking for balloons for weeks and I kept telling them they are not good for the animals, but hard for them to grasp that concept, do you or anyone else here has a suggestion on what can be like a balloon but sustainable for a child? Just in case I come across something like this in my life again hehe thanks!
We do not use easter grass because it is very dangerous if eaten by our cats. We usually have used the paper grass but it is expensive. Real grass is out due to my allergies. But this easter I decided to use Carefresh. This is paper bedding used for small animal cages. I bought a package in spring colors and used it in the kids easter baskets. Then after easter we used it in our hamster cage.
I was doing a litter clean-up near the bay last week, and I saw a piece of Easter grass that was the exact same kind I used last year, clear pink holographic grass. It really triggered me so I'm not planning on using Easter grass this year. Also at a different beach cleaning up this weekend, I collected about 6 popped water balloons. I'm definitely not planning on buying those for my kids anymore either.😊👍
First of all, I love how Tippy talks to you. Just adorable. I always looks forward to seeing Tippy in your videos. Second, I love the idea of actually calling the person to say "Thank You". I think in most cases people would appreciate that much more than a card. Third, sample cups...oh my gosh I never even realized how wasteful. Thank you so much for all your videos. I am a slow learner, my generation was raised on quick and easy, disposable living. It's going to be a long journey for me but all of your reminders are certainly helpful!
How cute could it be to put a simple sign at the wedding shower that explains the journey of a thankyou note and then a sweet note from the couple that says something like this "no matter whether you just attended or brought a gift we sincerely thank you for your support and love at this special time in our lives" It would take the pressure off the couple to write notes and let everyone know in a classy yet subtle way not to expect one!
Bethany Hammond she has one already but it might be dated now. Her routine might be different but you can check that video out, it’s from over a year ago
OMG thank you for saying something about thank you cards! My family gets so offended if I don’t send them thank you cards for ANY holiday/birthday. Apparently saying “thank you” in person isn’t good enough and I’m ungrateful if I don’t send one. Unfortunately, I’ll have to keep sending them if I want to keep peace in my family.:( so annoying!!
I write and send thank you notes for everything after reading "A Simple Act of Gratitude". The book was about how this man committed a year to writing a single thank you note every day to a different person in his life. This completely shifted my attitude on thank you notes so I highly recommend checking it out. That being said, you really really don't need to buy thank you cards from the store. 1) Ask your mom, grandma, other older friends if they have cards to give to you. Literally I've sorted through my mom's office closet and found boxes of empty cards with envelopes. Thank you notes/stationery almost always comes either in a wasteful single use thing or as a box set with half or more left unused. 2) Printable options. It may not be as fancy as a cardstock one, but there's so many free printables online (especially Pinterest and blogs) that have nice designs and cut lines to make it card size. If you already own a printer or have access to one (local libraries usually offer free or very very cheap printing services), you won't be going out of your way to purchase more waste and are basically just reusing what you have. Getting obsessed with you channel during the quarantine lockdown! Planning on taking these weeks to start my zero waste journey.
Another thing that I used to be so guilty of getting/eating... those dumb plastic tube ice pops that come in boxes of like 100+, they used to be my go to for the summer or anytime I had a fever
My thank you messages were written on the back of a photo from the wedding, the kind that sentimental people put on the fridge and older people put in their prayer book.
"Thank you" and birthday cards are SUCH a pet peeve of mine! Seriously, I'm moving right now and I happened upon my hidden stash of cards that I've collected over the years and it was shocking how much I received and kept! Literally, my mom loves to send me three cards for Christmas and I ~for some reason~ decided to save them all. It's so annoying! Ha
Birthday and christmas card I find are pointless and it's a pet peeve of mine too because I appreciate the thought but at the same time I always feel bad when I throw it away because otherwise I stash them and forget they are even there.
Aileen Woolf You can use them for crafts for kids! My Grandma saved ALL her cards and we had endless fun as kids cutting them up and making collages! Now I save all my daughters for the same reason. Although I personally don’t give cards but it’s nice to have a use for them when we receive them! If you don’t have kids in your family, try donating them to a local library or Girl Scout troop or daycare center. 🥰
There’s an ice cream store in Austin called D’Lites where they give you a sample in a small paper cup. Still single use but it’s not plastic at least. I do see plastic spoons there, and they also use plastic for their lids and straws, though. But you can get a shake without a lid, use your own straw, and use your own spoon to eat ice cream.
I was raised that you have to send out thank you cards after birthdays, Christmas and any other major holiday where a gift is given. On the Easter grass, the same kind that my mom bought for my brother and I in the early 90s is still being used to this day, now on my son. We reuse everything until it dies then try to find the correct way to either dispose or further reuse it in another way. Awesome overall!
I'm brazilian and there are so many things that I have never even heard about! Single use toothbrushes? Thank you cards? PLASTIC EASTER EGGS???? Seriously, what is wrong with the USA? (Also, love these anti-haul videos)
In germany there is one kind of shampoo bar that comes in a cardboard box (yeahhhh!!!!) but then with a fucking plastic loofa type thing inside the box... Honestly what the fuck
I mean, if it has to be shrink wrapped, a plant based cellophane is better. I bought a couple reusable teabags off a seller on Etsy and asked them to not use any plastic. They used plant based cello instead, and it’s biodegradable (though it looks exactly like plastic so I was upset until I read their note!) Plant based cello is much better, though it still requires resources to produce.
Love this!! I've been on a sustainability journey for 3 years and learned some new concepts from this video. Reuseable lighters...who woulda heckin thought!!!
I reused plastic hollow easter eggs as cat toys. They loved them so... they are like balls, but they do not have predictable trajectory, so it keeps them alert. They love them so. It's cheaper than actual cat toys and it is a great fun to see them smashing them around and running after them.
On the Thank You card thing: I just had my baby shower and this morning I pulled out my Thank You cards (leftover from my wedding years ago before my zero waste days) to do the "traditional" thing for the gifts I received. Then I thought about it and was like "That's so much work, I'm super pregnant and lazy..... Why don't I just send a thank you message on Facebook?" DUH! I can't believe I haven't thought of this before. So I sent the messages out this morning and have already gotten tons of responses, something that's not easily done with physical thank you cards.
I used to work at two grocery stores (at different times); one was a very small family-owned little Latin market and the cashiers had to memorize the prices EVERY DAY; it wasn’t hard at all, the produce guys would let us know if any price changed from one day to the other; the other one was a branch Latin supermarket, but contrary to many American supermarket chains, we had to memorize the codes, and most of the produce had no stickers at all. ☺️
futureforecast do you have a vape shop nearby?! They will gladly take them! I’ve worked in the vape industry for a few years, they already have a lot of batteries to dispose of on a regular basis and a certain protocol, so they will surely accept them.
I'm starting out on my zero waste journey. Food packaging is most of my waste. But I am trying to grow my own vegetables. So that will cut down my waste if the seeds grow. I know they came in plastic packaging but less then what veg comes in and I will reuse jiffy bags for Ebay selling. Love how you get so frustrated with things that's me with most things in life lol. Also love your mug ☕🌱
About thank you cards in the zero waste community in country I am from a few girls came out with an idea to hand out plants in little reused jars as a thank you gift 😊I think it's a cute idea. If you start preparing it long enough before the party you don't even have to buy plants. You can take cuttings of ones you already own!
There’s a company called Sarah’s Silks that is giving out free green pieces of silk with the idea that you can use that in the place of grass in your Easter basket.
I love all these anti hauls and the video of what you talked yourself out of buying because it inspires me to focus more on repurposing what I have and working harder to buy everything I can secondhand. I used to be better about it but lately not so much because the roommates I’ve had aren’t so excited about that. I’m moving into my first 1 bedroom soon and I need to get back in this mindset especially because it will save money and make me feel less stressed. So honestly thank you for making these videos because this is what I need in my life.
I keep all my birthday cards and thank you cards. Writing culture is incredibly important. It's more than tradition, it's living history (speaking as an historian with expertise in writing history). They are incredibly meaningful to me and lots of people, and can still be done sustainably.
@Angela Black -- Ugh, you sound so dumb. You don't need to be wasteful and send cards to say "Thanks," as @Shelbizleee said in the video above. Did you even watch it? It's called saying thanks... IN FUCKING PERSON!!! OMG!!! SO FUCKING HARD!!! OR FUCKING SEND AN E-MAIL!!!
@Angela Black I'm from Europe and I NEVER heard that you send 'Thank you' cards. Why would you even do that???? Just thank them when they go home... it's just dumb to send an extra card just to say 'thank you' AGAIN. The people will throw it away anyways.
@@AHeike-sp2eq when you can't send a card, or have a bad memory, sometimes it's nice to look back on. I mean when you die they'll throw it aways but when you die, everything you have pretty much becomes a waste anyways (other than some clothes and trinkets)
My sister and I have used the same birthday card for my mom over 10 years. We all get such a laugh out of it. She turns around after opening her gift and gives it right back to us! It is just the perfect card for her....and cheap...and waste-less...and funny...etc.
I think Thank You cards are actually really impersonal. If there is an instance where I don't open a gift in front of someone, I will call or text them to tell them thank you. OR I will find time to go see them in person (usually family members), give them a hug and say "Thank you so much for the X. I've already used it Y times and I love it!" It really takes no effort to be appreciative
It’s one of my biggest pet peeves when people throw away perfectly good things like plastic Easter eggs just because they are cheap. My mom has been using the same plastic grass, same Easter baskets and same plastic eggs since my first Easter 30 years ago. It takes up one storage tote in her shed to store. My nieces and nephews still have a grand time with 30 year old plastic grass in their baskets and 30 year old plastic eggs my mom hides money in 😂 It’s the same concept to me as gift bags and tissue paper. So easy to reuse. They take up barely any room to store and it’s a money saver and environmentally friendly too!
I'm learning about this in my environmental science class: the ppl we need to talk to is the American government. It's them who need to start giving incentives for sustainable practices like rechargeable batteries. Fines for those who make non-rechargeable batteries in a non-sustainable way and create all sorts of pollution.
This! We get invited to a lot of kids birthday parties. I refuse to buy a 5 year old à birthday card. I just write happy birthday on the wrapping paper. Now if I could find a way to stop buying and wrapping gifts 🤔
It’s hard because I love having them especially after people who gave them to me die, but now my family has turned to emailing virtual cards and sending money on PayPal and it works well. Saves energy used to mail things too, I guess.
Hallo from Austria! I love your channel. I'm not sure if you already mentioned that, because I'm new to low/zero waste movement, but here in Austria it's some how obligatory to give all the kids who attend your kids' birthday party a small gift when they leave. Usually those gifts are not only cheap but also plastic and their quality is so low that they brake until you get home. This year I decided to give to all the kids my daughter's old toys for every new toy she received and I'm SO happy for that. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person. Hugs!
My family taught me that you should always send thank you notes and that sending one is a good way to show gratitude. A lot of people write than you notes on cards that are blank on the inside and then you can take the front, which usually had a lovely picture, and create a collage on some sort
Yes! I totally agree about the thank you cards! Not only are they wasteful, but they are just one more thing that the bride has to do later. My cousin actually went around to all the guests at my wedding shower and asked if it was ok if I didn't send out thank you cards (her idea, not mine)and of course, everyone was totally cool with it! I I was grateful! Because like you said, you read the thank you card (usually with a very generic thank you anyway) and you throw it away without a second thought! It's so stupid!!
Loved this. I will say my grandma used to save her greeting cards and gave them to someone who turned them into place mats for retirement homes. They were placed together and covered in a clear vinyl to be wiped off and reused. The old folks really loved the cards. :)
A note about the batteries... I think it is very important to think about for what you are using them. I need batteries for a mouse, clocks and remote. In total 5 batteries, which usually last 1-2 years in the device. Recharger lasts for how many, 4-5 years in max.? So I would use it for like 10 times maybe? This sounds more wastefull to me... :)
I only ever bought plastic easter eggs once. Because I used them as chocolate molds to make home made chocolate eggs for my little girl. I still have the same ones. They are also a useful size to cut out little round ginger snap cookies for Christmas.
I think you are brilliant, such a breath of fresh air. Love your top and your cup. Love the rant on thank you cards, like you said its a tradition with weddings, but I try and reuse them by cutting out the picture, use a pretty hole punch thread ribbon through and then you have gift labels to go on presents.
Great great video. 😊 Regarding the Easter eggs, here in Slovakia my family and I think also most of families we are creating the eggs from actual eggs, and I remember we were colourig them as kids and the same ones are still used in our family as decorations. So those which I had created, have been used at least for 20 years. 😊 I think it is great, don't you? We are never BUYING any. When there will be some kids in our family again maybe it will be time again to create some new ones.
I agree with you about Thank you cards, I got married last year and didn't send thank you card afterwards like you as my husband and I said thanks on the day which is more personal and done! You could look into thank you e cards if your sister is persistent. Great video!
So weird that they would keep the wasteful traditions but not the ones that were good (see: reusable lighters... where did that "tradition"/habit go??) Sounds like a weird double standard to have...
My family doesn't celebrate easter but my boyfriends family does. They dont follow a zero waste lifestyle but they put out real hardboiled eggs for easter (they use food dye to color the eggs) once they've been collected they use the eggs for macaroni salad and but the shells in their plants. Still something fun for the little guys, a fun meal to make, and zero or very little waste is involved. I love this so I thought I would share
When I run out of disposable lighters I'm planning on buying a rechargeable electric lighter. I also won't buy " personal massagers" that are battery powered. 🤣
Shelbi I just love your way of thinking. I am glad there are other people like you. Sometimes I just think I'm too extreme because others are so trapped in the past and in tradition, as you mentioned. Lots of love from Germany 🤗❤️
Platic grass and easter eggs - we used the same (paper) grass in the same baskets every year. We used real (hardboiled) eggs instead of the plastic eggs - then we could have fun dying them and could eat them afterward.

single use INDIVIDUALLY packaged makeup wipes (i’m looking at you neutrogena) BOILS my blood
All makeup wipes make me mad. Why is it so hard to put some cleanser on a cloth wipe and use that? They work better to me anyway
@Angela Black you can use detergent to wash off your make and rinse it with water so you don't destroy the hotel towels
Omg yes that awful jeans chair Jenna Marbles made
YES! I saw a video recently of someone putting together something out of all newly purchased clothes and materials and had the nerve to refer to it as 'upcycling'

You can also buy electric rechargeable lighters now. A friend has one. It makes a weird noise, but it looks cool and does the job.
👏👏👏
In my country (Serbia) we color our eggs with red onion peels for purple, onion peels for orange, and some other plants for green etc. For most of our eggs we decorate them with plants,we tie them to the egg and that way the plant imprints on the egg so we avoid plastic and chemical-loaded colors. There's always an alternative. And it saves money.
In Czech Republic we do it too. It is really pretty too.
My husband is from Serbia and we were just speaking of doing something like this!
Same in Russia huh
We colour them in America too, but the plastic ones are used to put candy in. Basically, we have the painted actual eggs and candy-filled plastic eggs.
@@strxwbxrry.x5346 you can boil them in wine for deep red and brown colors as well
My sister has three kids and she teaches them all to send thank you cards when they receive gifts from the rest of the family.
I love this idea
My family got so angry at me for not sending out thank you cards to people who came to my grad party 3 years ago. It got brought up this Christmas how rude I was for not doing it. I literally thanked everyone as they left and I felt no shame lol.
This made me second hand rage for a sec cos it sounds like my family lol. LET IT GOOOO
I remember the rage when I opted for e-cards lol. I know you won’t keep the cards anyway Becky.
It really doesn't occur to me about the waste generated when I try food/drink samples but now NO MORE!
@Angela Black wow those are some cool tips!
@Angela Black so impressed, thanks for sharing all these!
Your cat meowing in this video is giving me life! Love your vids
my cats are going nuts from
the meowing 😂
@@alexandra_vic_ it made my cat wake up lol
What bothers me is when you buy something “zero waste” like produce bags and the packaging is either plastic or has plastic 🤦🏼♀️ makes me so mad. Or bamboo toothbrushes that are covered in shrink wrap. Love the video and also I love your hair ❤️
i just bought reusable laundry balls for deturgent and they're eco-friendly but they came in a plastic bag and that got me upset
I got some bamboo toothbrushes on amazon 6 pack and it came in cardboard packaging... The brand was panda bambu.
@Angela Black I think they meant when you buy reusable produce bags, they often come packaged in plastic and that's frustrating. I don't think they were talking about the plastic produce bags available for free use in grocery stores.
omg I got produce bags on amazon and they came in a plastic bag. oh well I brought it back to a grocery bag to recycle.
I bought mine off amazon and they were called kitchenwise. I got organic cotton reusable grocery bags with metal beads and they came in a cardboard tube. Another brand I looked at was purifyou.
your face when you said poundland cracked me up so much lol!!
poundland is the british version of the dollar store
Ren Bennett LOL yeah that was my comment. I realized that that’s what it was after I posted it. Whoops 😂
I’m a Canadian who moved to the UK and I will never get over the name “poundland” lmfao
This makes so much sense!! LMFAO I never would have guessed that and I feel silly now!!
This was what I came to say x
Poundland is a British brand and yeah, when that "gift of nothing" was released, there was a huuuuge uproar here, and it actually introduced some people who weren't into eco living to the idea of zero waste, so I guess there was one positive of it 😂
I knew what it was because of a British youtuber I watch chalking it up to be similar to the dollar store But the way she said poundland as if it were some taboo company was absolutely hilarious
i live in poland and we do not have this habit/tradition/thingymajig of tasting ice cream at ice cream shops. i've never seen anyone do it, i've never done it myself. you usually know your taste and what you generally like anyway so you just pick the flavour and hope for the best :D so, from my experience: just don't taste the ice cream! it's ice cream! it's good anyway! ha
SAME :D
I prefer when they use paper cups or popsicle sticks at least!
Ok you're great and everything, but Tippy is a STAR in this video
The first meow I even thought it was a sound effect hahahha
I love thank you cards and keep them in a binder. I look through them years later. Just like my grandma I guess. It reminds me of people and experiences that I’ve had and joy we’ve shared.
BONUS POINTS - for telling me the time in the video I snagged the thumbnail from 😂
TH-cam suggested it and I just went with it 😎
Shelbizleee around 7:43??
Another incredibly wasteful thing is wedding dresses
I would like to rent the dress I want to get married in, and I want it to be black.
If you knew how many people have had a lot of opinions about it when I told them.
But that's my wedding, it's so stupid with all the transitions people expect one to carry on.
@ 7:44 if you pause it looks the same! To me.....
7:45!! do you know where to buy bamboo toothbrushes NOT wrapped in plastic? :/
I always see thank you cards at thrift stores or you could reuse paper around the house to send a thank you.
The WORST thing with plastic is lol dolls..there literally wrapped in plastic then there's toys hidden between every layer of plastic and there wrapped in plastic too!!
omg so true. I know a little girl who watches LOL unboxing video and the first time I saw one my skin crawled.
Omg, yes! My daughters love those, but I can't stand them because of all the packaging.
Yess! My daughter loooves them! I understand the fun of endless unwraping but it makes me cringe.
Yes! I watched an opening of one on TH-cam (to see what they were) and at the end my husband turned to me and said, “that is the most wasteful thing I’ve ever seen.”
I have a list of reasons I despise LOL dolls. Haha
I may be wrong but I think single use batteries were available before the rechargeable ones. At least I remember when I first saw rechargeable batteries the single use one were around way before that that we have been using since i can remembering.
Ana M yeah you’re right I think she meant to Adapt to the reusable ones and batteries single you shouldn’t be a thing anymore
@@flowersoverweeds3775 yeah in that case, totally agree. Non-rechargeable batteries shouldn't even be a thing.
@@flowersoverweeds3775 only thing is the rechargable ones are so much more expensive ☹️
I'm definitely not planning on buying those for my kids anymore either.😊👍
stephanie m yes! Balloons are awful!
"You have more money than brains" That sums it up so good :D :D :D
LOVED that!! Made me laugh so hard!
Favorite comment on the video!!!
There's also tesla coil rechargeable lighters! I learned about them recently and they're pretty cool~
I never throw away cards I get. I keep them for sentiment or I white out/reuse them. They can also be used to make crafts.
The Mooing Elephant That’s a great idea!
Shelbizleee, you you please do a zero waste 'pets edition' video, please? It would be great to see how you keep your kitty's impact down
Bethany Hammond she has one already but it might be dated now.
The way she just subtly talks about traditional things and being in a wlw relationship makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside 💖
@@StevieWrites Same! I feel so guilty for no good reason, ha

My husband has a reusable lighter! I use matches around the house.
I TOTALLY agree on you about the tradition thing !!! We should take a moment to think about what we do and judge if it makes sense or if it's stupid.
Irena The Ginger I also reuse our Easter grass year to year!

I'm brazilian and there are so many things that I have never even heard about! Single use toothbrushes? Thank you cards? PLASTIC EASTER EGGS???? Seriously, what is wrong with the USA?
(Also, love these anti-haul videos)
Yep. Its a thing. Although single use toothbrushes really are only at the orthodontists office.
The plastic sample cups is the worst one!!!
Zippo and clipper lighters are refillable. I use hemp wick to light deep candles that the lighter can't reach.
I cannot believe what I saw but Walmart has shampoo bars and they’re shrink wrapped and in a box. 🤔 Y tho.
Oh no 🙈
In germany there is one kind of shampoo bar that comes in a cardboard box (yeahhhh!!!!) but then with a fucking plastic loofa type thing inside the box...
Honestly what the fuck
Davina Z maybe it’s those cornstarch packing peanuts that would dissolve in the sink? Have you asked the company about it?
Angela Black but retailers like lush could totally transport theirs naked and not break anything... so it’s really not a valid excuse
I have a swan float that my dad has repaired for 4 years now. I love it and will repair it till it can't be anymore
Why don't I just send a thank you message on Facebook?"
DUH!
Lithium batteries are more toxic to the environment when it stops taking charge but then our public works bans us from disposing.
What to do?
futureforecast do you have a vape shop nearby?!

I know I’m super late but we chuck our old matches on the fire for more kindling in case anyone uses matches but is no waste 😃
I keep all my birthday cards and thank you cards. Writing culture is incredibly important. It's more than tradition, it's living history (speaking as an historian with expertise in writing history). They are incredibly meaningful to me and lots of people, and can still be done sustainably.
Metal tasting spoons is just one of the ways Salt & Straw is amazing. Love having them in our town!
People need to stop being so wasteful because of “traditions” and “cultures!” 🤬
Angela Black - Ummm, my age has nothing to do with it. It is still wasteful and unnecessary.
@@MrNioMoon i meannnn i guess its pretty wasteful to live too, so we could all just die
I'm glad you said that (about thank you cards being less personal than actually thanking someone verbally/ in real life), I think this, too!
A handwritten card is so much more special than a verbal thank-you! This is one that I will not be letting go.
i agree. i always right at least a paragraph
I'm learning about this in my environmental science class: the ppl we need to talk to is the American government. It's them who need to start giving incentives for sustainable practices like rechargeable batteries. Fines for those who make non-rechargeable batteries in a non-sustainable way and create all sorts of pollution.
I hate store bought birthday cards we always make our birthday cards to anyone or just skip it and say happy birthday to their face.
I'd always rather someone say it to my face. But handwritten notes are personal. So I'd take either
Hugs!
Mr. Dewie's north of Oakland, Ca uses metal taster spoons, too :)
The cute floaties have come with patches for the holes now that are just clear stickers and work really well! I have one that has lasted like 3 years
Also, individually wrapped prunes!
Fuck. Off!
How is that even a thing ?
My family taught me that you should always send thank you notes and that sending one is a good way to show gratitude. A lot of people write than you notes on cards that are blank on the inside and then you can take the front, which usually had a lovely picture, and create a collage on some sort
used matches are usually compostable!
It's so stupid!!
oh god, the "it's tradition" argument... I hate it too
Loved this. I will say my grandma used to save her greeting cards and gave them to someone who turned them into place mats for retirement homes. They were placed together and covered in a clear vinyl to be wiped off and reused. The old folks really loved the cards. :)
My cat was freaking out listening to your cat in this video 😂 hilarious
A note about the batteries... I think it is very important to think about for what you are using them. I need batteries for a mouse, clocks and remote. In total 5 batteries, which usually last 1-2 years in the device. Recharger lasts for how many, 4-5 years in max.? So I would use it for like 10 times maybe? This sounds more wastefull to me... :)
“We are going to be doing what the kids call ‘spilling the tea.’” Hahahahahaha 🤣😂🤣 Heart you!
I only ever bought plastic easter eggs once. Because I used them as chocolate molds to make home made chocolate eggs for my little girl. I still have the same ones. They are also a useful size to cut out little round ginger snap cookies for Christmas.
making a call instead of a thank you card! yes! simple but 👌
I think you are brilliant, such a breath of fresh air.
Love plastic Easter grass and love plastic eggs we've been using and collecting and sometimes adding to our stash of them for years and years
"I hate tradition." YAS GIRL YAS
I once shredded paper to put in my grandkids Easter baskets. Afterwards we added it to the compost barrel in the backyard.
Our best ice cream shop in Australia, gelato Messina, uses wooden paddle pop sticks
I agree with you about Thank you cards, I got married last year and didn't send thank you card afterwards like you as my husband and I said thanks on the day which is more personal and done! You could look into thank you e cards if your sister is persistent. Great video!
So weird that they would keep the wasteful traditions but not the ones that were good (see: reusable lighters... where did that "tradition"/habit go??) Sounds like a weird double standard to have...
it's the consequence of people trying to make money out of anything. just good marketing strategies.
@Angela Black you're right, especially when they're older
My family doesn't celebrate easter but my boyfriends family does. They dont follow a zero waste lifestyle but they put out real hardboiled eggs for easter (they use food dye to color the eggs) once they've been collected they use the eggs for macaroni salad and but the shells in their plants. Still something fun for the little guys, a fun meal to make, and zero or very little waste is involved. I love this so I thought I would share
My employer had a coffee tasting.... Using disposable cups.... In a kitchen 👏 full 👏 of 👏 MUGS 👏
Lol yeah for Easter we reuse the same plastic grass, eggs, and baskets every year. The stuff in my basket 25 years old and still in stellar condition
For the thank you cards: sending thank you post cards can reduce the amount of waste created.
I make postcards from Christmas cards and those can be thank you notes/cards. Less postage needed too!
i just sooooo love watching these kind of videos about zero waste..makes me more becoming budget and environmental friendly
"...I'm willing to say you have more money than brains" lol
Platic grass and easter eggs - we used the same (paper) grass in the same baskets every year. We used real (hardboiled) eggs instead of the plastic eggs - then we could have fun dying them and could eat them afterward.
Have you thought about paper-less “thank you card”? Like, a very pretty costumed made e-mail card? 🙂 “Because it’s tradition” 😉😆
One thing you can do for matches is after the match has been lit the burnt part can be easily composted!
