can you do a review of sustainable all natural and zero waste stain removers. I am really huge on using natural products because who wants a zero waste chemical product not me. Thank you. :)
The clean cult hand soap caused build up in my bathroom sink, not sure if it’s from the oils but the only way to remove it was with a brush or using my water pik to spray where I couldn’t reach.
This is really helpful as an overview, I still mostly use conventional non-sustainable brands because I didn’t know where to start. If you continue this series may I suggest comparing the cost (per use) as well? That’s a huge factor and why I often find myself going for the conventional brands.
When I was on a budget with very little time to diy my own products my favorite place to get them was the dollar tree. You can buy powdered versions of dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent in cardboard boxes. You can buy vinegar in a glass bottle and baking soda for 59 cents. They even have rubbing alcohol for sanitizing. I've even found all natural bar soap without packaging.
We started working on something like this towards the end and we will be creating a running list on my website so that as we add brands they’re all in one place.
One of the reasons I love this channel is that you are not trying to guilt us all into being perfect zero/low wasters. I really appreciate that you always consider the fact that we might be living/working with friends/partners/family who also have their own needs and preferences and provide lots of solutions/suggestions to accommodate them. Loved this episode!
Thank you thank you thank you for specifically mentioning that products were for general cleaning and not sanitizing! People aren't being 100% honest about that and it's important that we are!
i was so happy she said that too! at least general cleaning helps sanitizing products like bleach work better. but i really hope a sustainably made disinfecting product is made soon (or does exist and i just dont know about them)
I needed this review SO much. I really struggle with making environmentally friendly cleaning product choices. It actually causes me anxiety because I don’t know which companies are the real deal and which ones are just green washing. Thanks Shelbi. ❤️
I know I’m late but you should check out force of nature. I use a machine to make it at home and reuse the plastic spray bottle they gave me. I found a super simple DIY recipe on their FB fan group for their capsules(just salt and vinegar!) and it’s an EPA registered disinfect. I’ve had mine for 2 years and I love it.
I really appreciate your consistent uploads during this time. You've been my positive escape and I cannot tell you how much I need this, thank you so much
This is so incredibly helpful! I'm transitioning to a lower waste lifestyle and have been starting to get decision fatigue, so your videos are really useful. Thank you for all of the research that goes into them!
For foaming handsoap: you can buy the dispenser online and then mix liquid soap like Dr Bronner, which is refillable where I live, mix it with water et voila! Foaming hand soad w/o disposable dispensers!
GIRRRRLLLL - I just need to say. I am so grateful for your channel. My family growing up was not conscious at all of waste. Paper towels in place of rags / napkins, went through costco-size packs of ziploc bags in a flash, single-use plastics for days, only saw the 'benefits' of single-serving [anything]. As I've gotten older (28yo nowadays) I've become much more environmentally aware, I was a strict vegan for years, and I've changed my habits. I'm not perfect and I'm always looking to improve and your videos are great for keeping me on track with being better! I just want to say how much I appreciate your channel and the effort you put in to make videos. I believe your impact is WAY bigger than you could possibly know. THANK YOU and keep up the awesome work! You're helping change the world, little by little. :) Thank you.
we have been wanting to switch to a system because like you, we donʻt want to diy, we just want something we can order on subscription, but support companies doing things better and refrain from putting harmful shtuff in the water! Thank you Shelbiiii!!
Your videos make sustainable living seem achievable by everyone and I appreciate that you aren't putting beginners down because we're not doing "as much" but we're trying. Thanks!
I’ve been using a mixture of things for cleaning. I got into using Blueland going on two years ago. It’s a great idea for people trying to get into the more sustainable lifestyle. The cleaners aren’t bad! I think people are expecting the cleaners to be tough on grime instead of being an everyday cleaner. So whenever I need the extra abrasive I use baking soda added on top of the Blueland bathroom cleaner. I like their hand soap, hands feel clean and I feel fancy with the foam. The glass cleaner works as well as windex and the multi surface does a pretty good job, even against one of the name brand cleaners. They even sent out an email regarding covid and antibacterial cleaners vs theirs. I thought it was super helpful and honestly if you’re cleaning any surface with some type of soap it’s going to wash away virus and bacteria from the surface. It’ll be fine, you don’t need sanitizing agents. Of course unless the surface can’t handle soap and water at all(which most can handle at least a bit).
I am SO glad companies like this exist now. I think a lot of household burden tends to fall on women. When I lived with my partner who didn't really care about zero-waste (it was more my thing), if I wanted anything zero-waste, I had to do all the DIYs, make purchasing decisions, do the cleaning in a zero-waste way. I ended up taking on at least 90% of our household affairs just to be zero-waste. The fact that these brands are out there now and I can order them online with a subscription is amazing. It takes so much of the burden off me, time-wise and emotionally. I love how equalizing stuff like this is.
I really appreciate how many sustainable brands are on a subscription that’s sent to your door, this has actually been a deciding factor for a lot of my friends and family who honestly couldn’t be bothered to do things more sustainably! the fact that these brands make being more sustainable even more convenient than most conventional brands is amazing!
We switched to TruEarth detergent a few months ago (bought a 384 load box) and not only is it my favorite eco friendly detergent, it’s by far my favorite laundry detergent, ever. Clothes are super clean, feel like they have less detergent build up. And I was able to decrease the storage space for our laundry to just a few inches. I am SO excited about this brand!
specifically came to your channel to look for this kind of video because you are always so thorough with your reviews. it's super helpful when trying to figure out if a company is just green washing or if they're actually putting in the work
You look amazing with and without makeup! I like how you think of the big picture when trying new brands! I did not know biodegradable can be define in different ways!
Can you make a video on how you are disinfecting with all of this Covid-19 stuff going on? Everybody is using bleach since it was recommended by the CDC but we don’t use bleach or Lysol wipes. Any recommendations?
tiiffyxo to be honest, there’s not much more than bleach, Lysol wipes, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide that will sanitize and kill this virus. I’m all for natural, low waste cleaning products in my home, but I’m also a nurse seeing firsthand just how terrible this virus really is. My advice is to use one of the above mentioned sanitizers to disinfect your home!!! Stay safe and healthy 💓
I was so happy to find Blueland because where I have kids, I don’t feel completely confident with bar soap because I can just see the soap slipping out of their hands and them leaving it on the floor.
God bless you for taking a stand and sharing your light and hard work. You are truly a great thing for TH-cam and the internet, and obviously the world! Love your videos!
I looooooove dropps I just switched but Ive used them in around 5 loads so far and they get my clothes so clean and honestly so soft. Hope I can convince my family to switch to them for laundry and for dishwasher.
Considering using Dropps for laundry when they can ship across the border again. Was wondering if you'd let me know how your experience with it has been? :)
Brianna Hupman I’ve been using Dropps laundry pods for over a year and LOVE them. I use the Stain & Odor Laundry Detergent Pods, Clean Scent and my laundry comes out clean and fresh smelling. I want to mention several things as considerations though: 1st, my kids are grown and I don’t do much that causes much odor or stain removal need so my evaluation is based on low odor, low dirt laundry even though I do buy the Stain and Odor pods. 2nd, throughout my life, most traditional laundry scents irritated my sinuses and/or caused headaches so I needed to use unscented detergent/soap. Dropps clean scent does NOT irritate my sinuses and does not give me a headache. The scent is light and fresh and for me, not irritating.
Your editing gets more inspiring every day! And I just love how you are so into sustainable living 😍. I had a sustainable fashion blog for years. Stopped before I moved because I struggled with al Pr packages😅.
Hey Shelby, Ive been watching you for a while and I just want to say, your editing and production has drastically improved, they were amazing to start off with already but im really please with how much more effort you have been putting into your videos, it really shows through.
This was super helpful! I have debating for a long time which brands to try out. Buying a bunch of different brands to try out would be so wasteful so I'm truly grateful that for this video. I'm looking forward to this series :)
I just wanted to say thanks for including the No Tox Life dish block. I didn't know about the dish block, and I actually live really close to No Tox Life's physical store, so I'm excited to bike down and pick up a dish block to try!
SUPER helpful! You have been such a huge help to our family as we have made changes over the last year and a half. Keep posting! You're doing an awesome job!
Thank you for how informative this is! Sometimes it feels hella overwhelming doing research for every household product/its origins, so these videos are super super helpful!
Dope necklace, and I absolutely love the way you mix your eyeshadow colors on every video💜 You are so passionate, and it inspired me to consider a few for myself. I want to change my laundry detergent too (The Arm and Hammer is good smelling, but for two working and working out people it takes a lot) , so I think I’ll get the sheets you talked about. Dr Bronner’s in dark blue mixed with water is my current choice of dish soap, floor cleaner, bathroom cleaner, and multi-surface cleaner. I tried it at my sister’s first, and when washing my hands I noticed how squeaky-clean they got. Keep in mind it is tough and can take off old wood stains (learned that the hard way), and certain paints can melt with it. Overall it worked magic on my walls too, taking off all grind from previous tenants and making them shiny again. The packaging is made from recycled plastic, and is to be recycled. They have a non-scented version too. Thank you!🦋
Oh man, this makes me happy - I LOVE Truearth strips 😻😻 I'm a little proud to say that I discovered this brand a little earlier than when they got popular, since then I have been sharing as I can, and got everyone I could hooked on them.
I recently purchased Blueland products (I got the set with the 3 cleaners and hand soap) and so far I am quite impressed. I used the bathroom cleaner for the first time on my toilet a few days ago, and wow. It got my toilet cleaner than any other product has! I mean, my toilet wasn't filthy by any means, but it just did so much better than anything else I've used. I love the multisurface cleaner, I use it all the time. I have yet to try the window cleaner, however, as I usually just use a microfiber cloth and water, maybe vinegar, then a clean rag to dry it. I really like the handsoap, too! My 8-year-old son loves the foaming soap, it makes washing his hands more fun for him so that's a huge plus. I am going to try Dropps next for my dishwasher and probably laundry (unless I decide on another zero waste brand). Thank you so much for these videos! I am now doing what I can to make my home as close to zero waste as possible by replacing my usual items once they run out with zero/reduced waste options. :)
Yas, queen! Honestly though so grateful for this. I am looking at greener products and LOVE how you consider transportation costs, etc. Also we have similar hair and I already can't wait to watch your shampoo video!
Thank you for making this, it is super helpful during this time! My local co-op where I buy my soap, laundry detergent, etc. currently has its bulk section closed, so it's nice that someone has done all the work of researching each brand and product. Thank you!
This was super helpful! I kept getting those True Earth ads like you said and I really wanted to know if I should switch from soap berries. Thanks for this in-depth review! Saving the planet so we don't have to test them ourselves lol
I love Laundry Club laundry sheets! I ordered from True Earth Laundry Sheets. They were very slow in delivery. I am a fan of Laundry Club Sheets and they were very prompt in their delivery. I love the way my laundry comes out. By the by, GREAT holiday gifts!
I’ve been wondering about Clean Cult! They seem like a brand that would help me with being more eco friendly in a college environment! That’s also another idea for you! How to be sustainable in college!
request --- do one on yoga mats / yoga props please! I'm all side-eye about the cork ones bc so many have some undisclosed substance on the bottom that is just. . . . never mentioned . . .
This is perfect, I know to always go to you for learning about products and stainability, especially more now that I am moving into my own house and trying to find second hand furniture and sustainable products to create less waste. I already hand my eye on blue land so this video helps a lot! THANK YOU. You being so educated on sustainability and the environment makes me want to research tons and create my own blog/website to help others understand the importance.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I've been wondering whether the laundry strips actually worked, so now I'm going to give them a try. I love their low waste packaging!
Thank you for making this video, as someone who's trying to take some of the next steps as I'm using through what I already had in my sustainable journey this was extremely helpful. I like and follow a lot of your other videos, and I love when you do product reviews. Especially because of how in-depth you go with companies being ethical, and their ingredients being truly sustainable, and thank you for the work that you had to do for this video, I appreciate it.
I'm so happy you posted this video! Even though times are weird, this is a great time for research and find better cleaning products for sure. Also I ALWAYS learn so much from your videos! I suggested Blueland when you asked on insta because I saw an ad and I'm so happy it made it in the video because not only do I have a better idea now of the company and products in general, but I also learned about SO MANY other low waste, zero waste companies out there! I don't have a problem DIYing laundry detergent and cleaning with vinegar and alcohol but with a baby on the way I want to make sure that I have options that won't hurt the earth!
So I don't know if Shelby has ever mentioned what she uses for her pets, but I have found that there are eco friendly cat litter. I use one that can be flushed or composted, but it unfortunately it comes in plastic but I like it much better than a brand like scoop away.
Unfortunately the laundry pods from Dropps don't work for my family's clothes! I bought the stain and odor variety, and it doesn't get rid of either! I also feel like I have to use 2-3 pods for one load even though Dropps says to use one. Now I'm stuck with them until I can use them up
this is my first video from you that im watching and OMG this is exactly the kind of content I have been looking for, can't wait to binge your videos and keep learning how to become more eco friendly
Hard times but great video and content! I think you do such a wonderful job of addressing any areas/topics that might be confusing or touchy for people. You’re doing great! This was extremely helpful and I feel really aligned with your level of ‘product/company support’ verses DIYs so I really respect your opinions (on all matters eco-min) but definitely in this video. Good timing for spring cleaning (anti-bacterial or not.) Thanks girl! Made my day. :)
Have you tried Force of Nature? My workplace has recently started using it at the daycare. I really like it, the only con is it kind of has a sticky residue after setting for 10 min but you can wipe it off. It less ingredients; only 3 ingredients: water, salt, and vinegar. It's also an environmentally friendly company. Reusable bottle, recyclable capsules, multipurpose, and formula lasts for 2 weeks.
I love this! I've been making my own vinegar cleaner, and using up tide pods and such that my mom bought me years ago. So sometime soon I'll be looking to switch to other cleaners. I live in Canada though so finger crossed that some of these ship there!
Essential oil brands that are green washing?! DoTerra? I've watched a few videos about people who used to sell that brand or work for them say not great things.. I know essential oils aren't sustainably sourced most of the time.. especially specific oils. Anyways, wondering your thoughts
I use dropps. I like them for the dishwasher but I’m a little dissatisfied with the laundry. Idk if it’s my washer but my clothes come out with white residue streaks. I’m excited to try the soap nuts next and maybe the truearth sheets
Yay love! Thank you I appreciate how thorough you were and I have to admit the *and also* scattery update moments when you're elaborating and updating us even though it's kinda funny for me how it breaks up the flow of the overall presentation.
Thank you for your very thorough research. We use Blueland (thanks to your review) and LOVE, LOVE their detergent. We live active lifestyles so I was skeptical of the effectiveness but zero complaints I agree the bathroom cleaner is not one I'd buy again. But I appreciate these videos as I love having options while doing our part. THANK YOU
Thank you for reviewing these products!!! I’ve been curious about how good and effective these are. I’m excited to try the laundry detergent!! Thank you for all you do!
thanks so much for this video! i've been watching your channel for a couple of years now and making my own slow changes. now i'm in charge of working to "greenify" a small bed and breakfast, and i needed to find some cleaning alternatives that aren't DIYs but are still sustainable. this was super helpful!
I live in Europe, I probably won't be able to order any of the products you mentioned, and even if I were it wouldn't be very sustainable... But I still watched till the end and enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for all the good work you're doing. You really helped me when starting my new more sustainable lifestyle, not only by providing information, but also motivating me. Love your videos, keep them coming! :D
I have been researching water filtration systems for our home and I was curious if you had a video on this? If not it would be a really helpful video for people who are looking for options for their home!
This is great thank you! I was looking at so many brands but I had no idea where to start ToT but omg when you opened the blueland box I was so thrown for a sec bc I thought the lil thing on top was all there was in the box XD
I am very curious to know more about PVOH (polyvinyl alcohol), which is what is used in many of these products, including Dropps. I have seen some studies that show evidence that they are not fully broken down and may stay in the water. I personally switched away from products that use PVOH, since there are other options.
I've been very interested in trying a dish block, but I am curious about what the difference is between a specific dish block and say dr bronner's solid Castile soap would be.
With the dishwasher/laundry pods, could you test them in a glass of water to show that the outside actually breaks down? I've heard that some of those outer layers don't break down or are actually plastic and get stuck in your machines.
Honestly, I’m Mexican and I don’t remember the last time I personally bought cleaning items. Lol I just use a eco friendly and biodegradable Mexican soap that I’ve been using since I was a kid. I use the same soap for cleaning, laundry, and showering. Yes, showering. Oh and washing my hands in the bathroom and kitchen. Oh and obviously dishes. It does come in a huge plastic bag, but that’s the only bag I use. As a Mexican growing up my grandma showed me using reusable bags for everything including our lunch. Lol
I just signed up for clean cult and then came on here after. I’m about to watch this video it’s Just what I needed. I already use dropps and love them! Also your makeup looks beautiful in this video! Do you have an updated make up routine? Any new low waste products?
I definitely would have liked to see more in-depth review on the individual products but I still appreciate the overall review. I use Blueland and I e been wanting to try a couple of the ones you ended up mentioning so thank you. Love they you do the research
I love my No Tox dish block! I've been using it for about a year. We still have a bottle of Castile soap and water for one of my roommates but the rest of us use the dish block
I have found to disinfect & clean that powdered tied, bleach, and water do the job. Not sure how sustainable that is since bleach comes in a plastic bottle but the powdered tied comes in a box. You also use very little of each so it lasts a very long time.
I wanna make the switch so bad but the ordering online and shipping is extra and less convient for me due to waiting days for products, shipping costs and having to take the extra step going online and purchasing. I love going to the store getting everything i need at once when i need it and being done. I wish we had more access! But thank you shelbie for posting this! Its good to see the options out there ❤️
Can you do a video on zero waste pet products and habits or recommend a video?? I have 3 cats and I of course use litter and then dump the clumps into a plastic shopping bag and then that goes into our larger trash can. What’s the best zero waste litter? What’s the best way to avoid all that food packaging? TY! Love your videos!
Love the video!!! Can you recommend Shelbies from other countries? People or companies that do what you do, but in latinoamerica, asia, Australia, etc. Thanks!! Love from Argentina
Tru Earth makes disinfecting strips similar to their laundry strips. I haven’t received mine yet, but thought they would be perfect during a pandemic. I bought an empty Clean Cult bottle and plan to use for bathroom and kitchen. I also bought earth breeze brand laundry strips and am impressed.
Love this vid! More please 😄 And since I live in the UK now, I’m going to ask Immy if she’ll do one. I’m a big fan of hers as well-I count on you both to help me think of things I can do next to improve my effects on the planet.
Love your outfits, especially the dark green jumper in the beginning. Love drops dishwasher pods. This was super helpful, I hadn't heard of blueland and some of the other brands. Like you I have a hard time with diys and really making them work

It’s a terrific product
@@krishnagelda9653 Does it have a scent? I love the smell of laundry detergent but my husband is allergic so we have to use non scented detergent

If you haven’t tried Meliora, I recommend it! It’s local to me but they ship nationwide. I use their all purpose cleaner and scrub.
I love that you showed the box openings of the ones you could. Loved this video as a beginner eco friendly product user. Thanks! 😊☺️
Thank you!🦋
WOW- loved seeing your face without make-up- thank you for such attention to detail and care in creating this content!
Oh man, this makes me happy - I LOVE Truearth strips 😻😻 I'm a little proud to say that I discovered this brand a little earlier than when they got popular, since then I have been sharing as I can, and got everyone I could hooked on them.
What about the Dropps laundry pods? We've been using them for a year and like them.
just ordered some blueland foaming hand soap. I love that idea of refilling hand soap like that!
Thanks for all the research and testing you put into your videos. I am looking forward to your thoughts on safety razors.
How about Dr. Bronner's for using for all - Laundry, detergent, cleaning ?
@@ceciliaheight6344 what is the cost of Laundry Club?
I’ve been wondering about Clean Cult! They seem like a brand that would help me with being more eco friendly in a college environment! That’s also another idea for you! How to be sustainable in college!
Those truearth strips seem absolutely perfect, oh my god
Thoughts on Dr bronner's, when purchased in bulk??
What is your take on Dr. Bronner castille soap?
I had a ton of trouble with the Drops laundry pods dissolving in the washer
request --- do one on yoga mats / yoga props please!
LOVED the video! I actually wished it was longer!!! Thank you *SO* much for the upload!
What do you do about cat litter and food? Like is there eco friendly litter/food cans/bags etc.?
So I don't know if Shelby has ever mentioned what she uses for her pets, but I have found that there are eco friendly cat litter. I use one that can be flushed or composted, but it unfortunately it comes in plastic but I like it much better than a brand like scoop away.
@@stormymai6252 thank you for your reply!
Incredible video. Clear to see the amount of work you put in here. Thank you so much
Question 👀
Not sure if I missed it. But do the Tru Earth laundry strips work well on stains??
Any reply appreciated 🙂👀
Have you tried Force of Nature? My workplace has recently started using it at the daycare. I really like it, the only con is it kind of has a sticky residue after setting for 10 min but you can wipe it off. It less ingredients; only 3 ingredients: water, salt, and vinegar. It's also an environmentally friendly company. Reusable bottle, recyclable capsules, multipurpose, and formula lasts for 2 weeks.
i use dropps for laundry and dishwasher detergent (for a couple months now) and i am sooo impressed! amazing company and an amazing product!
First comment! Love you Shelbie. You've given me the courage to live the zero-waste sustainable I wanna live. Thanks for your bravery and energy
So excited I just got my first cleancult order! Thank you for this video!
Thanks for your hard work on this video. I appreciate your honesty and I love your attitude!
I loved the (so you don't have to) part, it's really helpful and kind of you. 🌱💜 love ur channel.
I have been researching water filtration systems for our home and I was curious if you had a video on this? If not it would be a really helpful video for people who are looking for options for their home!
Y'all I literally needed this!!! I loved the video
I've never purchased a soap specifically for dishes. I've used Dr. Bonner's bar soap for my dishes for the past 6 months and it works great.
Loved this. You did a great job! I’ve really been wondering about TruEarth and now I definitely want to try them. Yay!!
Wonderful video! I'd love to hear about more brands. You're so indepth so it's so helpful!
Have you tried grove stand? The Myers brand and the brands concentrate.
Thank you! I’m looking to switch from Method to a non plastic items.
Love your outfits, especially the dark green jumper in the beginning. Love drops dishwasher pods. This was super helpful, I hadn't heard of blueland and some of the other brands. Like you I have a hard time with diys and really making them work
Thank you for doing this video! I've been waiting for it since you started talking about it. It is much appreciated and quite helpful!
