    I would just encourage anyone to do a chainlink straight and not diagonally and then rotate the texture in the UV's rather. Because of the aliasing that occurs with the diagonal lines.

      Hey thanks for watching! I'm stoked you were able to make it all the way thru, means I'm doing something right. :D With my new tutorials I'm really trying to cut the BS and just get into the essentials so that is very reassuring to hear.

    I've never ever used Sub Designer... so a bit fast...but I can see how you're doing it... learn by doing. Cheers. The only thing is I'm loathed to sign up to Adobe for it. :) I bought Sub Painter via Steam as an indie license.

    • @GetLearnt
      @GetLearnt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya, the Adobe factor is not great. I'm still using version 2019.3.3, before Adobe had acquired them so I can avoid requiring signing up to use it.

    Very helpful video, thank you!!! I'm trying to get knitted texture but I need other basic shape to get a loop. How can I do more bended line than it could be from waves? I try to do it from circles but something go wrong😅 maybe I can't imagine full way correctly...

    Thank you for the tutorial! Is there a possibility to add slats to it?

    • @GetLearnt
      @GetLearnt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking it out. And totally! It'd be a matter of being able to make the slats in a separate node chain, and then finding the right place to connect that chain into your original node network that we've created here in this video. Might take some time to find the best possible location but definitely doable. :)

    Brilliant tutorial man! Is there an easy way to get a thread pattern on the chain-links? I'm trying to get interwoven lace.

    • @GetLearnt
      @GetLearnt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could try subtracting maybe like a Stripes node from the Beveled single piece. It might take some trial and error but I think you'd get the easiest result from including that info on just the one side of the link and then letting the system mirror it all for you. :)

    Wouldn't it be required to add an alpha to black portions of the graph? I'm really new to substance so this is a question out of pure ignorance.
    Edit: Awh snap seems you did that in the opacity node and I wasn't aware that that's how it's done 😅

    • @GetLearnt
      @GetLearnt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya that's a great question! Ultimately it depends on where you intend to use this material, truthfully. In SD, like you mentioned I use a specific Opacity output node and that's how we can view it in this application. If you wanted to view the transparency in another application, it will depend on what your shader is looking for. Some will use the alpha from the base color, others will prefer a separate grayscale map like we have here. :)

      @janvisagie231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GetLearnt Gotcha, I'm still busy with my donut tutorial in blender so I haven't gotten to importing many of my pbr materials from substance into blender, hence my lack of knowledge of the naming convention for these maps. Ty for the explanation. Unrelated question though, do you know if substance designer has a plugin for gaea or vice versa. If so, I can imagine it would allow a super awesome cool method for creating landscapes (i.e. generating "low poly" base in gaea, then overlaying pbr materials from substance designer).

    • @GetLearnt
      @GetLearnt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janvisagie231 No worries, happy to help! And while I can't say for certain, I'm going to say that there ikely isn't an "official" plug-in to bridge those. You may be able to find something online that someone else has made, but just based on what I've seen in the community I can't say I've deen too much support for Gaea, although I'd tend to agree that'd be a powerful combo!
