Miata Throttle Body Comparison - Skunk2 vs Ebay

This week we do a comparison between a Skunk2 throttle body and an eBay throttle body. Is the Skunk2 throttle body overpriced, or is the eBay throttle body poor quality, what are the differences, and which should you get for your Miata? What are your thoughts on the Skunk2 vs eBay debate?

We will loctite and stamp the butterfly screws before we put it on your car. Other than that, I don’t see many potential failure points.

I’ve got the eBay I port matched to my squaretop, I plan to peen the butterfly screws over so there’s no chance of them backing out, and you have to watch out with the cam for the throttle wire, they definitely don’t debur very well because I sliced my thumb wide open actuating the throttle body

Great idea on porting to match the squaretop manifold, the ebay throttle body and squaretop manifold is definitely the budget solution to the Skunk2 setup. Sounds like there is some variance in quality control on the Ebay throttle body, which doesn't surprise me.

Hahaha no, we were generally curious. Obviously we wouldn’t have ordered the eBay one if we didn’t need the adapter bracket, so this review did stem from that. But it’s not a spite review at all, we were both super impressed by the knockoff version.

@@NappMotorsports skunk tb is far from perfect.. i bought one for my mx5-kit and the holding bracket for the throttle cable cracked very fast (too thin alu).. and the throttle spring was to weak and needs a little bit of oil now and then not to hang a little open..
but to be fare i didn't care to bring this up with skunk.. maybe i should have..

Yeah. Skunk2 has the better finish but the ebay one isnt terrible. If buying new I'd probubly just go ebay imho.

Honestly they (eBay vendor) probably just ordered 1 of each Skunk2 version and copied it part for part with no regard for patents or anything like that. It’s astounding that they can get away with it, but they do.

Except Skunk 2 doesn't honor their warranty and offer no support. I'll pay to play for parts by companies who support and warranties their products. You can pay to get ripped off by scrap 2. The ebay looks like a more complete kit compared to the scrap 2 throttle body I received.
