SVRR 3415 In and Out

On October 7, 2023 during the Heritage Days Festival in Abilene Kansas the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad was operating a couple of excursions with steam locomotive 3415. The locomotive is now down for it's mandatory 15 year boiler rebuild. They are raising funds to do the rebuild so it would be great if you could help with a donation. The FRA requires steam locomotive boilers to be rebuilt after a certain amount of running time or 15 years, whichever comes first. 3415 got an extra year of running because the time was figured wrong and it was thought last year, 2022, was the last before the rebuild. It was great to see it running and I hope it can be operating again soon. It's going to cost around $600,000.00 for the rebuild. 3415 is about 100 years old, is a former Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe engine, and is a Pacific style locomotive which is a 4-6-2 wheel arrangement. It is the only full size steam locomotive operating in Kansas.

More passengers at the end of the day than on the earlier trip. Was that an electrical generator in the boxcar at the end?

Seems so, I didn't pay attention. 😊. Yes, power for AC and stuff for dinner trains, probably car lights too.
