Drove one of these for my uncle back in 1976. Wasn't to much it couldn't pull. It was a beast.
the tractor didnt even know it was pulling anything lol
I always liked the sound of this V8. I worked for CaseIH for years. I think the 817 should have been the engine in these tractors. And they should have had outboard planetary axles.
i love seeing those old tractors. this is 4568 tho, there weren't a lot of these one made. they look almost the same as a 4586, the big difference is the cab. the 86's have a wider cab that you can open the windows on. and a little window next to the hood facing forward. nice video.
Good ole DV-800 pure animal
Glad to see the owner "took care of it" by cutting a hole in the hood and adding an induction stack (and probably a bigger air cleaner). The V-800 was a beast - lighter than an 855 Cummins, responsive, great V8 sound - unfortunately, IHC's stock air cleaner was too small for it.
But, yeah, look at her go....
Hey I was pulling that thing haha. The next day it broke the cable.lol
was he planning on just driving home with the sled attached?
Sexiest tractor ever made in my opinion
My favorite tractor
*FOUR VALVES PER CYLINDER AND PISTONS LIKE PAINT CANS...*
IH had a 4786 hat was rated at 350hp the 4586 was only 300 hp both had the V-800 Cu inch engine.
@gixxer1000rr Great comment!!
That awesome sound reminds me of a 7.3 Ford Powerstroke :)
Most ih and navistar v8 have that sound
+Alec Glass yes, they all r great :)
Xandro-the-wolf cough cough *9.0 LITER 6.0 and 6.4* cough cough
The 4586 and 4786 tractors used IHC's proprietary V-800 V8 diesel, so yep, both this engine and the Navistar 7.3 will have that "angry" V8 sound.
The V-800 was like a 7.3 Powerstroke on steroids....
Former IHC parts monkey here - yep, for some reason Harvester, and later Navistar, didn't spec enough air cleaner for the 6.0, 6.4, and 9.0 engines, and they had a nasty habit of swallowing their own oil, which, if you're a high-compression engine, is incompatible with life....
Kind of an unwise place to pinch pennies. And difficult to explain, since the Neuss Diesels, DT466 family, 6.9, and 7.3 engines were bulletproof.
These tractors were in fact Steiger tractors which became part of IHC in 74, all IHC and now Case IH big articulated tractors were built by Steiger
International engine and transmission though.
Never slowed down
you mean a 4566
