the 4586 has an IH DV800 v-8 motor that was rated at about 300 hp out of the factory, i've seen them with cummins repowers too.

You don't see many IH 4586 around anymore, i think they have taken their place in tractor shows, taking a long deserved rest.

IH (based in Chicago, IL) purchased a 30% stake in Steiger Tractor, which was based out of Fargo, ND. The early 1980s saw IH having to cut back big time due to a strike that ran from November 1979-April 1980, and in late 1984 its agricultural division was the last thing it sold off to contain its losses. These results led IH to change its name to International Trucks, which was soon renamed Navistar International.

It was the engine fan through water.. It doesn't matter that the turbo has a turbine.. You do realize that first the water would have to go through the engine, to go through the turbine(which is the exhaust side of the motor). There are no moving parts on the outside of a turbo, other than wastegate actuators(if the turbo has an integral wastegate)
Now that's a real tractor.

This is more than just transport. It is used for all kinds of work on a farm. A nifty fifty bike is frugal on petrol.. but this thing is built for work.

If I am correct that is about 200 hp. Steiger made some great tractors
Case IH and New Holland merged to form CNH. And yes Fiat is the parent company of CNH. They were forced to sell the Versatile line or face charges of monopoly.
Steiger produced tractors for many different tractor lines (they used a much larger engine than the VT903 as they made 525 hp tractors using the KTA1150 in the 1970's

okay if people think these tractors suck then why are you watching and commenting on the video? I mean whats the point. we have steigers and in alot of ag and construction compaines here use them because they out last the john deeres. Thats your opinioin though and this is mine, maybe where your from people don't know how to use them or maintain them onetwistedsoul.

I'm completely wrong!? Alright... I never said that water can't cause engine damage. But a turbo isn't going to throw water around the EXTERIOR of the block in deep water.. That's the engine fan doing it.. Which is pretty hard on things, since it can pull the fan into the radiator..

Nice tractor. Not sure I'd be out there trying to drown it though. Up to the axles is bad enough... but water levels up to the cooling fan is probably not too wise an idea.
@mudromper87 International bought a 30% stake in Steiger in the 70's.Steiger built IH branded 4WD
tractors during that time. Later IH bought out Steiger.
Hate to be the one that's got to replace the prematurely worn out parts from running it through all that muck, but if you got the money to buy the thing, I guess you got the money to service it too.

Hope you check the fluids for water after driving through the deep hole. The vents aren't above water.

@antolintinez does that still have the original International V800 engine ? The air cleaners tended to plug up easily, you had to really keep an eye on them.

Yeah. I want something maintainable, reliable, and rebuildable, because that is an inevitability. It will need to happen. And parts need to be available for a long time to come. A tractor is an investment. Its a piece of equipment that should last damn near forever, should be built with integrity, not budget, in mind. I'll take an old IH. because ugly as they may be, they can do what I want.

well after this clip im pretty surprised what they can be taken thru.... i personally like j-d, i use a big 9520 in the oil patch. ive never been thru water that deep...up to the axles onces but i had no choice
