  • A universal network bridge that uses a fiber optic network connection for optimal galvanic separation. Given the track record of Sonore this must be quite interesting…..

    Hi Hans, following the descriptions of sound differences between the SOTM and the Sonore, I think it would be very interesting to test a fiber optical connection with the SMS 200 too. Many people report similar changes using fiber on their setups. And I think currently you have all elements to do such a test. It would be great and helpful for many people wishing to develop their current setup.Thank you.

    I am curious how much better the Rendu would sound in comparison to optical out from other sources to a dac with a high grade optical cable ? In other words, the advantage might or might not be attributable to just the optical connection. I think it's call half-duplex with that type of optical. Could the improvement be the half duplex connection ? Years ago that type of optical was used for computer connections with not much use lately that I have seen.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The advantage lies in the total conceptual thinking, just as with the UpTone EtherREGEN. So it is the galvanic separation of the fiber optic and the measures inside the device to fight ground plane pollution. Then using extremely low phase noise crystals to clock every important component and finally use very fast flip-flops. If the optical input of your DAC would have the same technology and design philosophy you would most likely not get the same quality since the bandwidth of TOSlink media converters haver very limited bandwidth. That is why some manufacturers limit TOSlink to 96 kHz sampling.

While the opticalRendue is an improvement over the ultraRendue, I still prefer the SOtM sMS-200 ultra neo. I prefer the sMS-200 ultra Neo even more when used with the SOtM tX-USB ultra and SPS-500 compared to the opticalRendue set up (including LPS). For me, they were both equally quiet with absolutely black backgrounds so I think it comes down to the differences in the "house sounds" of SOtM and Sonore. I also mostly listen using headphones which, along with differences in equipment, will also have an affect on the final sound output.

    Hi Hans how are you? I'm really curious about your thoughts of using WiFi vs. Ethernet for streaming? I know you like the Auralic Aries streamer, and the CEO of Auralic suggests that WiFi is preferable to ethernet for sound quality (assuming your WiFi network is fast and stable). It seems to me that the Auralic WiFi streamer is extremely preferable because it allows you to sidestep investing all this money in removing noise from an Ethernet-based system (as Sonore goes to great lengths to do). It also allows you to avoid all the extra boxes and cables required for a Sonore-philosophy solution. What do you think? Did you ever get a chance to test the Auralic Aries vs. the Snore opticalRendu or some of the other Sonore solutions (like using the EtherREGEN, etc.)?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
