Note for Broken Ribs you can apparently just pass time in bed and it will count as rest, so you only need the Hypothermia trick if you're trying to save calories (sleeping is "cheaper" than passing time), thanks @ArchimedesLP
@@Lithar1987 Oh I do TLD all day now, but more comprehensive guides will take a bit time so probably not coming out this week, I'll have to science things out but don't wanna ruin the magic for myself just yet 😃
I've found the Settled Mind feat to be way better than I thought it would be. Never having to worry about cabin fever is a major relief, especially on early to mid-game interloper.
Honestly it kind of breaks interloper by reintroducing hibernation. The entire point of cabin fever was to force people to take risks by going outside making it so you can't just pass time indoors while sitting on a calorie stockpile.
@@simonnachreiner8380 Honestly, hibernation is not fun. Anyone can survive a lot of days just fishing, gathering wood repeat, in interloper. It's not very interesting either. But cabin fever is not fun either, because it limits your playstyle with an annoying feature that is not realistic.
@slimjim2584 I was quite new to the game, in desolation point at the end of the road there is a cave to the left. Apparently right in front of the cave there is a bear spawn. I shot the first bear, quartered it, and moved in the cave to cook it. Since i was trying to get the 100 days survived achievement, i usually got to a place, eat all the food and moved to the next. I ate the whole bear in that cave, but just before finishing it another spawned. Killed the second bear, rinse and repeat. After about 50 days of eating bear meat, and sleeping, the third bear spawned and killed me while i was sleeping. End of run.
14:20 if you put on the gas mask after the suffocation timer begins and take it off or have the cartridge run out while still in the gas, the timer continues from where you were. Something I learnt the hard way
It’s actually crazy how small this channel is. If today was more popular you’d be huge. Happy that you’re giving tips to the community,it’s very nice to have someone like you.
It's not crazy at all, The Long Dark already has a small community because few people play this game. Also it's a game that's is not enjoyable when watching someone else playing.
@@BorrasitoTakaTaka you forgot the videos where they're like ''i'm gonna play the long dark for the first time'' and they die in the first 2 minutes like that's so entertaining
Great Video as always, one addition to the chemical poisoning: If you get the affliction, you automatically lose your well fed status. so be careful since this takes a long time to regain
Great stuff as always, Bash. Also, re: 3:35 -- don't assume stimming with broken ribs will solve your climbing problems. I got moose-stomped in the HRV basin without enough pain-killers to treat it but with four stims. Wasted two of them on failed climbs before I noticed my carry capacity was still nerfed, so I cut down to about 14kg total before being able to climb. Nearly threw my 500-day run there.
Saw your vid and was really wowed by the new stuff. I remember playing the game for the first time about a decade ago when I downloaded it onto the school laptops from my Steam account. Good vid my dude.
4:00 Can't you just pass time in a bed to accumulate hours towards healing broken ribs? I can't remember for sure but I'm almost certain there's a trick to it like this.
It does work, great tip. I never knew that. Usually more convenient than getting Hypothermia. Still, there's some reasons to do Hypothermia hibernation in case you're low on food (~40% less calories consumed by sleeping)
Watched it even though I knew most of the info about afflictions already. What I did not know is that there's an air pocket in the Blackrock mine on survival, thank you!
Remember to be prepared with plenty of contingencies when traveling in HRV. I actually did get trapped in Moose Valley 200+ days into a stalker run and managed to stay alive and escape after a straight week. (Didn't realize I could use a stim!) Quite scary 😂
This video is just what I needed! I'm about to go into Langston Mine and was very anxious about suffocation especially given how fast canisters degrade... I admit I've already blown through two of them just walking through toxic spills on the surface...
That tip about passing time while wearing the gas mask is really interesting but I think I'd be a little concerned about them stealth patching it as some point.
Yup, that's a good point. I learned this trick while making the video so I wanted to share, but honestly it's quite risky to use, as the consequences are too severe if they randomly change it one day
Great video! I didn’t realize cheat death can cure frostbite! That’s very liberating for me. I hate playing with frostbite (just not how I like playing) so I have always started a new run if I accidentally get it. I can now reconsider that strategy for future runs. Maybe I just cheat death instead of full restart 🤔
It's not worth it at all, the penalties for cheating death are very severe and you loose your items if you die again before reaching your backpack. Even if you get one or two frostbites it won't be a game changer for the most time. It can be annoying sure but it won't kill you by itself. Just remember to keep your clothes dry before sleeping or passing time.
@@BorrasitoTakaTakaall you have to do is stand directly in front of your cabin or whatever and let the temperature take you out. If you're playing at higher difficulties you can even do that inside of the cabin on Timberwolf Mountain. Just make sure you choose the safe spawn you should appear directly inside of the cabin at least that worked for me twice
Thanks for details of all afflictions! Most of them already known for experienced players but part of them is depend on difficulty settings. For example freeze rate cause hypothermia but how fast is a question. I tested "medium" and "high" on custom mode and it's about equal or it's bug or may be I doing something wrong... ;) So if you could make a video of Custom Settings, many players including myself like to tweak the game balance. Yeah, it would be a lot of work to do such content but we'll be wait! :)

Honestly the way I play I don’t have to worry about anything of this the only thing i worry about is being mauled to death by a bear or fall to death lol
@Bashrobe I had given those recipe foods a try when they were added and experienced 2 different outcomes: 1) Reduced the risk chance by 3-4 percent (which is nothing, yeah) 2) This one was crazy.. eating the food REVERSED the progress of cabin fever while staying indoors.. I was crafting a bear coat when the risk showed up and I kept crafting and crafting... the percent of chance reduced to 20's from 50-60's while staying indoors.. maybe it was a bug, I don't know..
Was hoping to see a detailed guide on freezing as well. I always wondered in what increments you lose warmth over time. Like the wiki says that on interloper you can stay outside for 15 hours at feels like -1°C and 1 hour at -9°C. But my question would be: Inbetween, does it scale in a linear fashion or in a overproportional fashion? At -5°C, can I stay outside for 8 hours (linear) or 2,828 hours (overproportional). Yes the wiki does say that the brackets are a sliding scale but does that apply to the warmth lost per hour as well?
Linear fashion, you lose a certain % of warmth per hour, per degree of negative feels like. I have this covered in the Frigid Bones part of 50 days of Misery made easy.
Another question about toxic gas: What if you unequip the gasmask while standing in toxic gas? Does that refresh your suffocation timer back to 50 seconds?
@@Bashrobe Losing 10.5% per hour per -1°C isn't linear tho, it's overproportional. You said it later in the sequence as well that "at -1 feels like, you can stay outside three times as long as at -3 feels like". Also, -10,5% wouldn't fit into the calculation for Interloper that the wiki mentions. Do the - 10,5% apply with frigid bones? What is the basic rate on interloper then? -6,66%?
