    Another terrific video about a monumental year in film. Sorry to hear the news just now that one of the stars of Wait Until Dark passed away today at age 89. RIP to the great Alan Arkin.

      Oh wow, you've just broken the news to me. I hadn't seen that. Very sad news :( Arkin was great in Wait Until Dark but, like many, my favorite of his roles was in Little Miss Sunshine. Such a great actor...

    What a great video! I was just turned 18 at the time of the ceremony, and re-watched a number of these movies during the pandemic. What a change from the films of just two or three years earlier. I can't believe you're just out of college! I'm a fan!

      @@whenthepicturesgotbigger Not necessarily my favorite, but I love Two For The Road. Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney. One of her best, and directed by the great Stanley Donen.

      @@stevenstanley3157 Two for the Road was good. I hadn’t seen Finney in too much before that, but I am a fan of both Donen and Hepburn. The style was interesting, though. It felt deliberately hard to tell what was going on at times, which was probably my biggest issue with the film. It probably wouldn’t rank among my top Donen films but that is definitely a super cool pick! :)

    As a kid I noticed the Encyclopedia Brittanica Yearbook for 1967 said this was the year sex and violence became more mainstream. Accompanied by photographs of Bonnie and Clyde and Lee Marvin in (I think) Point Blank.

    I find it fascinating how both The Graduate and The Power of the Dog lost their frontrunner status by the day of the cerimonies and ended up only winning Best Director. Of course the context and motives are different, but it is interesting that the Academy always prefers the safest choices.

    As always, A quality video!
    But I think the main reason the video is not getting more views is , because it focuses on the previous academy awards!
    I think what you should do is, make more topical videos, recent trends, maybe focus on current film awards or film festivals!
    And I am not saying to completely abandone the old awards , maybe they can be special videos, like retrospective,!!!
    Just a suggestion, wanna see this channel growww!!

    Hiya! I know this is probably a shot in the dark but I really love your videos. I can tell off the bat your gonna be an exciting part of the YouTubing film history circles.
    Anyway, I'm a recent graduate from the University of St Andrews down here in the UK. I've done some pretty interesting research for archives and I've completed two really fascinating student documentaries. If you'd be interested in having a free extra pair of hands help in the research of some of your videos I'd be happy to offer my services. If you reply here, I'll drop you my email and we can go from there. Like I said, this'd be free - I'm just trying to get some experience for my CV and I fucking love the world of old Hollywood. Lemme know!

      @whenthepicturesgotbigger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I really appreciate the comment and your support; that means a lot to me! At this time, I feel like researching is my favorite part of the video-making process and I am not sure if I need any help with it right now. Still, I really appreciate your viewership and the offer and if anything changes I will definitely let you know. Feel free to drop your email and I can send a message one day in case I need assistance :) Again, that’s a super nice offer and I would love to watch your student documentaries if you have the link!

    Also, can you clarify at around 23:35, you mean that Edith Head won more Oscars than any other WOMAN in history? Or for costume designing? Because it’s only correct if you apply those two criteria. Walt Disney won 22.

    • @whenthepicturesgotbigger
      @whenthepicturesgotbigger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yeah, I mention that she’s the woman who has won more than anyone else in history, which is kind of worded weird. It’s not been fully documented as far as I can see, but I think she is sixth overall behind five men, with Walt Disney having a huge lead of 22 over Cedric Gibbons with 11. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
