Marty is criminally underrated by major publications. How on earth do you not win for good fellas, taxi driver, raging bull, hell even the Irishman. This man is so important to film and the preservation of it. He's a God behind the camera and one of the most charismatic and sweet guys ever. This man is brilliant and has made some of the best pictures. I HATE when people boil him down to gangster movies like do people even watch movies?
I'm so glad you guys went in this in depth look at one of the guys who made me fall in love with film at a young age. This was an incredible episode and you guys' channel is the best movies channel out there and it ain't even close. Merry Christmas gentleman

Sorry I keep commenting but I think The Irishman is one of Scorsese’s most overlooked films. So many people dismiss it because of the de aging and the length but I think that movie is a goddamn work of art, the last hour of that movie is just perfection. Seeing Frank alone in a nursing home waiting for his family but they never come is just so heartbreaking and you just can’t help but empathize with him even though he’s such a horrible human.
Btw this was an incredible episode guys, I think that ending was so spot on I really hope there’s a culture change where films that tell powerful stories start becoming more mainstream because they are the backbone of cinema and have been since forever.

@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ Yea it's very easy to get sidetracked when you're talking about Scorsese's filmography he has so many great movies. That movie is just more bacon being saved in the freezer😂

Truly excellent one here, y'all. A lot of what y'all said brought me back to riding the T to Fenway and Landsdowne
2:51:17 the other thing is the rise of script by committee and directors just doing what the studio says they're supposed to do based on progressive agenda over great storytelling.
There's a reason why storytellers like Eggars, Nolan, Villeneuve, Reeves, Tarantino etc. make such phenomenal films. They're pushing the viewers to see these flawed characters in crazy situations actually as antiheroes/protagonists worth cheering for while being able to suspend our disbelief because they're so well written and acted.
At least we still have A24!

I've left some pretty harsh comments on this video, and I'd just like to clarify that I did enjoy this podcast. In fact, I gave it a thumbs up. Honestly, you guys are pretty good. I'm just a nitpicking curmudgeon who can't leave anything less than perfect be. God bless, and keep doing what you're doing. Long live Scorsese!

2:23:34 this is so spot on. The rating system is so fucking stupid, John Wick can brutally murder someone with a book and the ppl who make these ratings are all hunky dory but god forbid Joker kills a couple of guys on a subway then they shit their pants. It makes absolutely no sense

Another point to add to the violence in Raging Bull, that scene where Jake purposely mangles his opponents face because his wife finds him attractive was so brutal, the way he breaks his nose and it spurts blood all over the place made that scene so difficult to watch. Then that little grin he does after he brutalized the guy added another disturbing element to the scene.
