    Good move, Luke. We all want (expensive) project cars, but the truth is, most people can't afford them OR don't have the knowledge OR lack time OR lack space. In most cases, it's a combination of these things. I made the mistake of owning a few cheaper project cars in the past that needed to much work and I just gave up. The last few years, I've always made sure project cars have not been trashed by previous owners, but need some love (like: a good clean, basis maintenance, wheels, suspension and some smaller mods). Afterwards, you can just enjoy driving them :). Good luck.

    Great decision, and a great example to those who think that a project car needs just a little work.
    Project cars are listed generally because people have got a car to a point whwre they are in over thier heads, this usually means that massive knowledge, time, money, and tools are required to get it to a good state.

    Tech tips from someone who has gotten in way over their head and got out of it:
    1. No job is too difficult, but all jobs take time
    2. A project car is not a daily driver, but it can be when it is finished (see the dilemma?)
    3. The manufacturer designed the car for a reason, the less that is stock, the more issues
    4. You're wrong, always. Verify EVERYTHING before making a decision
    5. Buy a project car that friends are familiar with. You can share parts, information, and maybe even sell the car to them when you decide it isn't worth it anymore (notice I said "when" not "if")
    6. Every dollar you spend on the car is a dollar taken from the value of the car, don't expect to get it back
    7. If you have an issue, it'll be anything but the thing that supposed to fail
    8. Invest in diagnostic tools (OBDII scanner, compression gauge, etc.) before mechanical tools
    9. If you saved 5 minutes through hacks and not experience, it'll cost you 5 hours later
    10. If you can do the job based on experience alone, refer to number 4
    From my grandfather (lifelong mechanic):
    11. Engines are very precise and touchy things, stop messing with it
    12. CHECK YOU COMPRESSION!
    And finally:
    13. Impact guns are for REMOVING bolts, not putting them back on, NO EXEPTIONS!
    Anything I forgot? Add to the list \/

    • @ilpatongi
      @ilpatongi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      13 is absolutely false
      2 is debatable and depends on the car and it's condition
      3 is again debatable and depends on the situation.
      The rest are true and good advice.

    • @dylanyates6331
      @dylanyates6331 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ilpatongi number 13 comes from the amount of wheels I've had come loose from being too lazy to grab the torque wrench. You can do it, but exercise extreme caution (and extreme antiseize if you're up north).
      The other 2 are for factory stock cars with properly functioning parts. There are ways to improve, but that comes with experience.
      I appreciate the response!

    • @ilpatongi
      @ilpatongi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dylanyates6331 Well if 13 refers to wheels you're right, over and under torquing is bad, using the proper tool is always much much better.

I own a Lexus SC300 but mine is automatic, I love the car and when it was running I love driving it and really the only issues I had with mine so far is that the previous owner, didn't keep up that maintenance completely so it had to have a bunch of gaskets replaced which I am in the process of doing right now and getting everything refreshed after that it's going to be running great

    Rule #1 when owning a 240:
    It is never done and it will always have problems, but that's the fun part of the car. The stories and adventures it takes you on.

    Buy a cappuccino or another kei car. Can still be alot of fun since they're so light weight and because of the smaller engines (which if turbod, can be tuned to more usable power) have significantly cheaper running costs like fuel, insurance and road tax (if you pay road tax in America?) Be alot easier to build the car of your dreams than to take a rough and traditional car where you can't afford to mod it as basic running costs are too high

    Sold it at the wrong time imo, prices for them is going way up. Only reason i see this being valid is if you needed the money or the platforrm was just never "you" to begin with but i hope you find what's right for you.
    I dealt with the KA and it can make good power, same with SR, but that Step 1 is very true😂

      This is close to the highest price these cars will ever be, not a bad idea to sell that pos

      @@danielmorris5470 Nah those prices are only going up.

    • @danielmorris5470
      @danielmorris5470 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zuranku only because the car market is inflating. Used cars are at like 40% above what they were a year ago. Once the market comes back from this shortage and shipping issue examples like the car in the vid arent going to be worth what they are now.
