any long coat will do! I really did not know if I could pull off making a pair of shorts from a jacket but here we are. Btw if I seem a bit nervous or stiff it's because there's new people on the team and I'm adjusting to shooting with others in the space, thanks for watching and supporting our growth!!
I would love to make a shorts-jumpsuit-romper like this for my little 2 yr old daughter! What would you suggest looking for in a thriftstore children's section that I would be able to still pull this off? Pretty sure no labcoats there- and not sure what other type of "coat" or jacket would work. Would a really long adult shirt work? Thanks so much, in advance! 😊
really liking this silhouette! and how creative that you made it from a lab coat! I'm often just so impatient to do full out thrift flips like yours, and am always inspired when I see your cool ideas!
I know that company! They specialize in instrumentation and controls, logic and optimization for industrial systems (think fluid processes and maunfacturing). They're a division of Emerson and I took a loop tuning course from them as part of my engineering studies. Small world. :D
Hey Wendy, could you possibly do a video on hemming? Like from skirts to tops, and things with darts and elastic, and other types of hems for like curved or straight edges, or how to hem things with straps, etc. maybe?
I also thought the pockets were sticking out a little bit too much, maybe it would've been better to remove them altogether, but overall, I loved the jumpsuit too.
Oh man I too was very torn about the pocket situation, there's certain angles where it gives kind of a cool shape that makes the waist look really nice and cinched, and then other angles where it's like why is there so much random volume there. I put off the decision for now
What about like cutting a v shape into the top of the pockets? They looked tall enough to do that and still be functional pockets? I am just curious if that would even work, I'm new to this stuff.
@@withwendy Just a suggestion, but you can make a box pleat fold on the top of the poket, and just sew a straight stitch along the hem~ It gives a nice look and stops them from sticking out, while keeping most of the size of the pocket~^^
Very nice! Cuudos for not taking the easy way out and making a dress from it 😎 Will keep an eye out, for this kind of work coat for sure. And it gets bonus points, because I bet the material is really sturdy and will hold up to lots of wearing and washing. I actually have a sporty dress like that made from this kind of sturdy cotton twill and it’s going on 15 years now. I just re-dye it every couple years with whatever else black looks faded and it always ends up looking brand new again 😄
Hey Wendy! Loved this tutorial! Can you show us how to make basics with rayon, spandex, + polyester material? Leggings, fitted crew neck t shirts, mock neck t shirts, and biker shorts!? Please and thank you 🧡
Ooooh- i just realized i have a really cool "chef's"/baker's coat from Sweet bakery in MA! I couldn't help but keep it (someone I worked with gave it to me because their roommate worked there and left it and they knew I loved baking cupcakes), but never knew what the heck I'd use it for! Maybe I can use it to make my little girl this...it's really stiff though 😬
Bet this could work with like a big and tall type of men's shirt (for the length) or maybe two shirts if one men's shirt isn't long enough. Thank you for the video!
Hi Wendy!! I like your videos about creating/recreating clothes and I would love to do that aswell, what type of fabrics do you recommend for dresses? Thank you! ❤️🙏🏻
A blazer thrift flip Wendy please please pleaseee! I don’t know how many times I came across a cute looking blazer with wonderful fabric and buttons but it doesn’t fit and there isn’t much on TH-cam on how to alter it and make it fit. PLEASE.
This was a 2 day project I think? Not working non-stop but I've found it helps me to insert one sleep somewhere in the project to refresh the mind hahaha
Interesting idea. To save time and work why not just take in the sides, or back, then cut and sew the bottom of the shorts? That way you don’t have to cut the top and bottom apart and then have to sew it back. It would leave the placard in pace. That would be a lot less work. You could then add a waistband or elastic if needed.
That's a shop coat! they're actually fairly common for mechanics to wear, but tbh the only setting I've actually seen a mechanic wearing a coat like that while working was during shop class in High School lol
I can’t find those scissors anywhere... did you get them in Europe? The closest ones I could find to them are called “zhang xiaoquan dressmaking scissors“ but I can’t find them in that color to sell to me 😭

Ooh that's so exciting!
Great so happy for you! If there are other people helping with the filming, you can spend more time on the design and making process!

Hahaha later if you need to! ;)
This is so cute! I also think adding a patch over the logo would be a great way to personalize it even more! Thanks, Wendy ~❤️
Great idea to thrift uniforms, it's an excellent way to get sturdy quality material for a very affordable price!

Me too! I used to work at Emerson in India and we used to send Lakeside Controls quotations for projects they send us.
Using a lab coat for this was such a cool idea! Thank u for giving a sewing newbie amazing inspo
Love it! It looks so comfortable and easy to have adventures in. The idea for an Eleven costume is perfect too!

maybe?
Work clothes but make them FASHION
i love this! would it help to add darts in the pockets to keep it from sticking out?

That reveal montage was so creatively edited! Looked so cool
awesome! Thrift shop here, I come! How about something from graduation gowns (those are everywhere here (in Dallas).
unless you want the gaps, you could totally detach then reattach pockets to make that back pocket gapping disappear !
AMAZING!! and could you please show how much fabric is left after these thrift flips? ❤️
Thank you for your very creative tutorial. I love repurposing things.
This is my possibly FAVE thing you’ve ever done omg SO GOOD
Such a cool look! How do you see things like this at the thrift store and see the possibilities of what it could become?!

It’s easier to put the one leg inside the other with right sides together!
