Well, I feel enough people have shed light on betterHelp, which I knew nothing about. Edit: I’m very glad you’re finding sponsors because sewing and TH-cam are NOT CHEAP, but also glad that the community is helping to clarify areas that people don’t necessarily know about!
More relevant to the video, I love the white fabric used for the scrunchie mockup! I actually like how it lost some of the petal definition and became a bit more subtle in design that way.
My 2024 is going to be similar to yours where I want to discover and live within my own personal style. I’ve been a “fashion coward” for the last decade and I’m ready to rock the clothing that I ACTUALLY love!

Seems like I’ve been beaten to it, but I wanted to let you know that BH is an unethical company that has been caught selling private patient information, and the overall model of BH is not conducive to improving mental illness or specific conditions. Therapy is meant to be a tool to help patients process information in a healthy and beneficial way, and BH sets up a dynamic where patients can use their therapist as a crutch (having 24hr access to them). The expected long term benefits of therapy aren’t produced when therapy is used in this way. I hope you understand!

With a scalopped or pointed waistline, I do the following. This way I can keep the hem of the garment completely on grain.
Pre gather about 4 or 5 rows or gathers, enough so the gathering lines are wider than the depth of the longest scallop. Place gathered skirt pannel on form and cinch gathering threads closed, distribute gthers evenly SYMMETRICALLY, keeping them hem level, now apply the bodice on top. Trace the sewing line of the scalloped edge onto the gathered skirt with removable pen. Remove all garments and gathering stitches, lay the skirt pannel flat, and re-establish a more symetrical and evenly curved sewing line. Trim to allow seam allowance and re-gather along sewing lone and sew to bodice.

I was coming here to say this!
I learnt it from watching others make 18th and 19th C dresses with cartridge pleats and pointed bodices.
You tack it to the bodice in a straight line at the highest point and then sew along the actual bodice seam line and then pull all your basting and gathering threads, cut the excess only if its interfering with fit and overcaste the edges.

The BINDER with PLASTIC SHEET COVERS!!!! Why has this never occurred to me?! (Now hoping I didn’t toss them all in the trash during some post-moving-space-lack-frustration (I had way too many empty ones……) and with the design picture on it so you know what’s in there!!! 🤯🤯🤯 So good. Where have you been all my life. What’s up YT??!!! Jeez!

I just wanted to add on my personal experince with better help since everyone is talking abt the broader issues with them. It was EXTREMELY expensive and despite me requesting an lgbt friendly therapist, the women was pretty transphobic, constantly misgendering me and basically blaming my issues on my birth gender. She also would NOT STOP forcing me to talk abt my childhood and would give me weird homework but then almoet entirely ignore anything she made me do and i basically got nowhere talking to her. I think she actually even made me worse? Considering how bad my experince was and how expensive it was, i couldnt even find the energy to try another therapist. She then proceeded to basically harasd me for several months afterwards. The whole thing was a very frustrating experience.

I love your authenticity about not being perfectly satisfied with the end result! 🩵 I agree that the pointed part of the hips bunched a little weirdly. In the inspo dress, the neckline kinda flares out (scallops? idk the right term 🙈) what if you added a little flare like that at the bottom of the “shirt” part to cover the bunchy part? Idk if that makes sense or if you’re planning on doing that much surgery to it!! Loved watching this journey 💕
Also wanna say your videos are such a comfort to me 🩵 I love seeing your brainstorming, process, your thoughts along the way, the editing, and of course how it all comes together in the end!! I get into little slumps where I don’t have the motivation/inspo to continue my projects and your videos always give me the creative boost I need :)

That with the uneven hemline is pretty normal, thats why the hem is usually done last. There is a tool to measure and mark the hemline the exact same distance from the bottom (while you wearing it) to ensure an even hemline.
I love the scrunchy so much, btw!!! And the shirring looks so good, too!!

Hey wendy! I think it'd be really cool to turn this dress into a two-piece set! The top can 'fall' over the skirt, with your skirt gathered in your natural waist, like those pointed waistline dresses usually seen on corsets and things like that.
I was thinking that the 'problem' might be that the shirring is pulled down by the weight of the skirt, creating a bit of a boxier fit in the bodice. And then the waistline gathers are accentuating that boxiness a bit. That being said, I absolkutely loved watching this video, as ALWAYS

This was a great vid, Wendy! Thanks for being real about frustration. I wanted to tell you that I use permanent Sharpie markers to color match white elastic; it's easy and looks great. Also for your consideration: to avoid wonky gathers at the waist, you could consider gathering BETWEEN the scallop points. That way, the skirt would lie flatter/smoother and the overall skirt silhouette would be less lumpy. Visualize the skirt gathered on the curve up and smooth (no gathers) when the bodice edge points down.

I have some ideas for a scalloped waistline! i did this with a pleated skirt not a gathered one, but basically i pleated the fabric and basted it into place. then i turned the seam allowance on the bodice under, basted, placed it over the pre-pleated skirt, basted the pieces together, and then topstitched it on. obviously it would have to be adapted a bit for gathering, but i think the issue is that the gathering around the pointed parts of the bodice is bunching up too much, perhaps the spots in the skirt where the points lie would be less gathered or almost not at all. just some ideas!

Yes, you can color your elastic with a Sharpie marker. They are permanent and will work on fabric.

I wonder if there is too much fabric at the scalloped waist, or at least at the places where it is bunching up. TBF I am completely new to the scalloped waist thing, I am trying to understand how it works. I love the idea though! I still have a idea in my mind for some fun summer top with a shirred back. Although I am not certain if I have enough fabric left of what I was planning.

You can pattern your skirt's waistline by tracing the bodice's waist and then slashing and spreading for your gathers/pleats! Then you'll have the peaks but theyll be stretched to give you enough room to gather, and the skirt will hang downwards better (you can also slap a line of stitching an inch or two below the peaks on the skirt before inserting to keep your gathers falling towards the floor, if that makes sense, instead of perpendicular to the seam allowance of the skirt). Could even spread the front scallop more so you have more volume there for your bump! But also, if its a dress you want to wear through and after pregnancy, then an uneven hem might be part of the look, since if you compensate for your bump in the front itll be long later, or if you dont itll raise up in the front during pregnancy :) So maybe the uneven hem is part of it!

Thank you, Wendy! Super cute! You make shirring look easy! I just might try it. I had a shirred bodice dress with shirred cuffs in 1972 and I loved it - haven't had one since, it was expensive. :) I wish you good sleeping!

I like your channel and how you come up with solutions. On this video I would have liked if you could have shown how and where to place the elastic and if you have to stretch it or not as you are sowing. Next time maybe, but thank you for your nice videos.
