hi, what did you use/spray on the filter to break up the oil? I change my filter because my bike was stalling. Worked great after for about a week and then started again. I can't change every week. Even though I have two and can clean one while the other is in ... it's too much hassle. I've been using the dual layer malossis. I'm gonna try the single layer one like you have here.
He's using a K&N recharge kit. K&N air filters are also washable, and in order to allow the high flow they do, they don't filter as well as a stock paper/gauze air filter does on its own. As such, the filters need to be coated with an adhesive oil for the dirt particles to cling to as they are sucked through the filter. Same goes for these Piaggio filters, they're just foam, so the factory recommends soaking them in a 50/50 mixture of motor oil and gasoline, as it makes the filter sticky so that the dirt will cling to it. But fuck that noise, the K&N filter oil works just fine.
Do yourself a favor and grind the points off the screws, it makes reinstalling them much easier. I also use a magnetized screwdriver to hold the screw and a flashlight so I can peer in and line them up with the holes. There's no EASY way to do it, but these tricks will make it easiER.
Hi Mitch, I have a new Piaggio MP3 500cc. After what mileage would you consider to clean the air filter ? I only have 3100 Km (about 2000 Miles) down. My second service is at 6000 Km. Not sure wether my dealer is gonna change it or not. I mean the dealer has a list of rules to follow at the second service but I'm just not sure if it's gonna be done. Thanks
Andreas do it youeself seriously , I have the mp3 500 and the servicing is easy and a hell of a lot cheaper to do yourself full 6000km serviuce take yer 3 n half hours to do it completey , honestly buy yourself the tools and oil and get it done far more fun n rewarding
awesome thx, Im going to try this but with Simple Green. What did you spray on it in the end, oil?

ProjectDv2 K&N filter is the name?
Why do you need to spray the air filter with oil. Is that really necessary?
why oil i clean filter and instal it without oil and work good
This is AIR filter oil and it becomes sticky to help filter the SMALLEST particles out of the air!
What is the name of the oil filter we use to remove that dirty????

I'm having trouble getting the air filter cover back on. The screws don't want to get started. Is there a trick to getting the cover back on?

Manufacturer recommends every 10,000 kilometers (around 6,000 miles) the filter should be cleaned.

Is it reasonable that I soaked the filter too much and it's dripping oil into my clutch? Now I have clutch problems :(
Maybe.... apply very light of oil on the filter.... clean all oil mess on the clutch then you are good to go
man the filter is 8-10$, bay a new one :)))
