I went to the gym this morning to do a treadmill run which I never do but the weather was cold and horrible. The gym was absolutely jammed with all the new year newbies. There wasn’t a free machine to do anything. I went home in a strop thinking I should go out for a run but had no motivation, then I saw you’d posted a new video and literally the first words were ‘show’ up, so I went straight out the door, did an interval run and feel so much better and my bad mood has gone. Thanks so much. I’ll watch the video now😂
My tip, as an "average" runner in my late 50s, is to prioritise still being able to run in 10+ years over being able to run faster/longer this year. I would love to run a marathon in under 4 hours (a 30-minute improvement), but it's even more important for me to still be doing a Parkrun when I'm 70 (at whatever pace). I think it's true when you're 20 too. Do whatever you have to do so that you're still running in 10+ years’ time - whether that's avoiding injury or staying motivated.
Very true. When people ask me what my running goal is (I'm 48 and started running about a year ago after 2 weeks in the hospital with a clogged artery) - it's to run injury free 6 days a week for the rest of my life.
This is something I am learning to focus on. Recently I've been sidelined by shin splints after taking on an intense training plan and it has led me to conclude that I would rather be able to keep running without injury and get better very slowly vs a plan that promises a huge payoff but has huge risk associated with it, too.
love your goal - mine is similar - I do a 14km race (Sydney's City to Surf) every year and am in the 65-70 age group and in the top 10 % now (I have never been in the top 10% of anything) My goal is to be top 5% once I hit the 70-75 group - a classic ' the older I get the(relatively) faster I am :-)
Great to see Anna back. I'd add, you never regret going for a run. (Unless it's the one that injured you) And there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad preparation. Also I'd love a Run.Improve.Repeat sweater and running vest.
I did a series of 5ks our local run club does last year. There was 1 guy at every race who was always a few minutes ahead of me that I started using as a pacer. He has no idea he was my rival but keeping up with him got me running faster through a few races lol
i've been running for 39 years. I run because i love it. It's the purest most basic form of exercise. And yet nowadays it's all about plans and goals and what should and shouldn't be done. Very sad. Just run.....
Indeed. They all have their favourite sayings they have such as "run the mile you're in", which I like, but mine would just be "run". I like pureity and so this would be my saying.
Show up. Thats what I needed to hear. I picked up an injury about two weeks ago after almost 200 days of running, smashing pbs and feeling ready to get into my marathon block. My body said no and I felt frustrated and sorry for myself. So today im in the gym, doing what I can and just show up. Thanks 🎉
Great video as always! Thanks team. 😊 My running goals for this year were to run a couple of trail ultras I've done previously and loved, and to add in a 116km event towards the end of the year. My goals have changed after a tumour was found in my brain. Benign, but tangled up with my brainstem and a bunch of important stuff. So now it's run, lift, and keep my body healthy and ready to face a scary surgery and then an uncertain recovery. Turns out I've been training all these years for the ultra I never knew I'd have to face. Run with joy folks, it's such a gift. 🎁
Nothing beats mileage (for me) when it comes to a race performance. There is nothing more frustrating than training at 75% and then fail at the race after an 18 week training. I started running at age 56 (hating running for all my life) and now I am starting to train for my sixth marathon.
Run like a fruit bowl - build in variation, it reduces the boredom and keeps you hungry - do some trails, some roads, even a high interval treadmill session - but don't get stuck in doing the same routine run every time
Really enjoyed how you covered the mental side of running- it is so easy to overlook. We’ve built an app with guided visualizations and AI journaling to help runners stay mentally sharp and we've gotten really good feedback from runners especially. Could be fun to explore a collab-mind if I email you?
WHY i run, to keep my mental health in a good place, I get out and run with my cousin now and again he's ex - military 29 commando, crossed swords PT instructor 😊
yes Sarah!!! - Although there's danger in the whole "comparison is the thief of joy" thing, having someone to gently train with and race against is a great way to stay motivated and provide mutual encouragment. I find this even more motivating if your training buddy/competitor is significantly younger. There's real pride in "defeating the aging process" and keeping up with someone athletic who's half your age! 🦾
See running as an Apple...preferably with three halves...entertainment at its finest😂
Hahaha really glad you liked that one!

It was so lovely to see a video with you all in! I found this really emotional! Not sure why! A beautiful video as always. ❤
Really glad you enjoyed it so much Suzy!!
Agreed

You’ve made a step-change in the quality of your videos. They were great before, they’re epic now! This one is special. Thanks.
So glad you can tell! 🥹

@@SuperYtc1 Yep. How to turn something pure and simple into a complicated mess.......
I needed this. I had a horrible run today. Came close to just giving up. You guys and your motivation are the best❤
This was me last sat, disappointed and embarrassed but needed these reminders 🎉
So glad we could help! Everyone has those days when running just feels impossible, but its always worth it in the end

The ultra I know you will win Kathy, love and respect
@ringspanner thank you. 😊 Like any good race, the only way out is through.
Had just given up on the idea of getting out in the cold and the wet tonight but then Tom's words changed my mind!
BRILLIANT! How did your run feel?
Thanks guys, love yoyr channel and this is one of fav vids!!
So glad you like it! What advice would you give someone?
Day1 of training for my first Half M, enjoying these videos
Day1 of training for a 5K PB, high five! And have fun!
Oh man! What an amazing video. Got to say James had me………remember why you do it. Brilliant.
Love that Ian! So glad it resonated with you
Absolutely love this!
Consistency and patience really help me on my running journey
Wow I wasn't prepared for the science where 3 halves made one. Just need to recover for a bit.
Non of us were 😂
Rick is so unintentionally funny 😂
He really is! 😂
Really inspiring - love this! I liked James' remember your why, and did actually pause the video to think about it 🤩
It's a very important one! What was your why?
the best part bit was the last one...and that is none other than..Rick da Legend! Love apple
😂
Rick clearly been watching South Park, and loves the legend that is ManBearPig. Half man, half bear, half pig
😂
I wouldn’t see running as an apple if I were the last man on earth
😂
Like what you did there!😂😂
Run brave. Back yourself when it gets scary.
LOVE THAT!
‘Remember the Goal’
Wether that is to run a PB, reach new distances, start S&C or even to recover between races
You should always remember the goal
Cheers. Thanks for all the great content, especially the weekly podcast. 👍
Really glad you enjoy it! What's been your favourite podcast?
Can you give me a shoes i don't have one running shoes😢@@runningchannel
Rick explained the three-halved apple principle perfectly, but he was let down by whoever made the diagram, as it was split into thirds instead.
Rick and his apple XD with three halves :'D
😂 😂 😂

Love❤ respect from india 🇮🇳 @ The running channel
Lesson 7 - these are my very good frenemies.😂
I have to admit I did not see that last one coming 🙂
Looks like Rick is better at running than maths, love it 😂
Just a little bit 😂
Love Andy's odd shoes early on
They're so nice!
Is this the new Star Trek? 😄 Six to beam up!
😂
Run like a fruit bowl - build in variation, it reduces the boredom and keeps you hungry - do some trails, some roads, even a high interval treadmill session - but don't get stuck in doing the same routine run every time
Love it!!!
Them hoodies 🔥🔥
So nice aren't they!!
Rick’s three halves gets 50% of my vote.
who get's the other 2 50%? 😂
What day are going 2 the national running show Birmingham TRC ?
Both Sat and Sunday! 😁

Only Rick can cut an apple into 3 halves!!!
Yep 😂
Rick’s apple analogy 😂
😂 maths isn't his strong suit
Legends 🎉
Thank you!!
We don't need "75 hard", we need "365 consistent".
AGREED!!
“Run the mile you’re in” is Sarah’s line! Why did Mo use it?
It's not just Sarah's 😂
WHY i run, to keep my mental health in a good place, I get out and run with my cousin now and again he's ex - military 29 commando, crossed swords PT instructor 😊
Great reasons to run!
The last apple on earth
😂 😂
Where do I find a three halved apple? 😊
They're very rare 😂
😂😂😂 @@runningchannel
consider the fractal pomegranate....
😂
First 🎉
Well done!
I wonder what Rick's Nanna would have thought about his halving of an apple?
hahaha we'll ask him!

Apples, halves??
Yeah.. it's Rick logic 😂
An apple a day, keeps Rick away
Hahahaha
