I am not Jewish, and while I had heard about the fact that milk and meat can not be mixed together, I had no idea of how much work went into keeping one's kitchen kosher ! I appreciate you sharing so much with us, and enjoy learning about keeping kosher. Who knows, it might even come in handy someday; I certainly would hate to accidentally make someone's kitchen no longer kosher.

I had a coworker who was orthodox in my teens and she quite literally saved my brother as she taught us the kosher symbols on food and suddenly we could identify IMMEDIATELY if a product had milk contamination (he has a very severe allergy and before she taught me and then I taught him, there were so many incidents and they had been getting worse). Kosher symbols are SO reliable it's amazing when cooking for family with allergies.

I love how you live with God in your home - God, or perhaps rather His presence, literally lives IN your home with you and you honor and thank Him by not only inviting Him in to stay, but make Him *welcome* in such large and small ways. Your religion provides a way for you to find comfort, shelter, and direction from God by enabling His blessed presence to work in all parts of your daily life even down to the foods you eat and the ways you clean then prepare them. I'm sure there are difficulties (people being people) but it FEELS very...calming, peaceful, and secure, but mostly very comforting. Thank you for allowing us into your life!

I take so many notes when I watch your videos (especially this one!) and there's always small details in your videos that I don't find mentioned in other resources I've looked at. hi Sharon!
I agree with you that perhaps from an outsiders perspective it looks very complicated but the bottom line is that milk and meat cannot be mixed together we have a set of dishes for each of them as well as set of pots and pans and different counters to put hot meat/milk dishes but beside that it is a personal preference of the family how they organize their kitchen the way I have showed you is just the method we prefer I hope it answers your questions and I am looking forward to reading from you again soon all the best

      what a great question!
All halacha were codified by Maran a great sage
as sephardi we have different traditions and follow Maran Shulchan Aruch for our halacha or Jewish laws and our Ashkenazi Brothers follow the Rama who took the halacha from Maran and adapted to their local customs: hence some differences in what we keep, how we keep traditions, how we verify food,....

What shocked me the most was that you thought this was a really small kitchen! What would you do if you had to live somewhere with a kitchen that only had say 2-3 cupboards, 1 drawer, 1 counter, 1 sink and 1 oven/hob?
I lived in a studio flat once when I was a student where if I stood in the kitchen I could spin round and touch all sides without moving my feet (arms bent!). I struggled enough in that kitchen without any of the rules that you live your life by and had to use the shelves in my bedroom/living area as a pantry.

Hello! I can suggest using coconut milk for recipes that require milk :) It's thick enough and it works really well as a substitute for normal milk and soy milk is nice to drink or add in coffee. Also vegan butter, might make your life a little more stress free
As for bugs, you can drown vegetables and fruits in a bowl of water with a little vinegar or lemon juice or special soap for food. If the bugs were inside, they will float and the surface of the plants will be sanitized by the acid in vinegar. If the fruit or vegetable is eaten with the tlskin afterwards to remove the mild acidic taste you can just do a second wash with water and that's it

My neighbors are Hasidic Jews, associated with Chabad. Their custom is to have bar mitzvahs in New York. The father made the trip with their eldest son, who recently turned 13. The mother couldn’t go because the childcare arrangements for the seven younger children fell through. When I know them better I’d love to help, but my home is not kosher. It makes more sense for the kids to be cared for in their own home, but I wouldn’t want to make errors.

I heard the no meat and milk rule in Judaism was because the stomach uses different enzymes to break down meat, and different enzymes for milk. If you mix the two together, I heard that the stomach finds it harder to digest both foods simultaneously, leading to eventual illness. Rabis had this knowledge of how the body digests food, and ailments, and wanted people to be safe, and not get ill. God would not want you to get ill, so rules are there to keep you in best health. Sorry if I wrote the wrong name for God, I don't know how you should say His name in Hebrew, and what the guidelines are. Apologies.

@@frumitup So, it's something I heard, but actually it's just something that some people say to make sense of the rule - I didn't actually see any references to historical sources that describe such a ritual. My study Bible instead simply makes a note that it's a very popular dish in the Levante, especially amongst the Bedouins, called Mansaf (it's still called the national dish of Jordan). I guess when it's made today the yoghurt isn't made from the lamb's mother, but I can imagine that in the past they might have very well slaughtered one of the lambs and used the milk from it's mother for cooking.
And maybe it was a law that was meant to form identity as a people, to distinguish themselves from surrounding cultures.

This video is simply amazing! I appreciate you sharing so much about your culture and observing your religion. I also appreciate hearing about your own unique perspective as a Orthodox Sephardic Woman. I am Mexican and have learned a bit of the history of Spain and Sephardic Jews but do not know much about the specifics. Thank you again!

Your voice is so soothing & you explain things well. This is the first of your videos that I see, so please forgive me if you have already done so, but would you be willing to do a video explaining everything about Shabbat? I have little to no knowledge of how it works, though as a nurse, I did once have a woman in the hospital who asked us to understand that she had certain limitations.
I'm having my teen take a course in World Religions as part of their homeschool curriculum & having it explain & practices witnessed in current day scenerios/situations would be very beneficial & educational. I'm definitely adding this video to their folder. Thanks so much.❤

Thank you so much for sharing! I had always been curious about how a kosher kitchen is set up. I will be using some of your organizational ideas in my own kitchen, and thank you for the idea of the tumbler washing balls, I will keep an eye open for some! I love the Kosher Kitchen, and much love from Oklahoma! 🥲 I'll be binging a bit with my new sub! 😊

I love this kosher kitchen! I am so impressed with your organization of all of your milk and meat dishes, pots and pans, and cooking utensils in a compact space. It must make you feel so good to pull out just what you need from the proper color-coded cabinet to prepare and serve your meals. I can see why the hand towel cabinet is your favorite, with all the colors of the towels, and especially the "Washing of the Hands" towels for Shabbat. I can see how having simple but lovely things makes being observant pleasant and joyful! Thank you for sharing this video with us (I'll be looking at my kitchen cabinets to see what I can learn from you!) and I wish you a happy Mother's Day!

Sara Malka, what a beautiful video. I remember my grandmother had plants on her kitchen window and when she mixed up silverware I’d see them stuck in the dirt of the plants. And she explained why that was done. I’ve always had a kosher kitchen but yours is amazing. Can you tell me where you got the sink scraper please? I use a brush, but the sink scraper would be a great addition. I also love the small balls you use to clean your tumblers. I love kosher kitchens.

Thank you so much Sharon for writing to me: I love reading your message every week❤️❤️❤️
My grandmother also put the knife in the ground for days!!
For the scraper I have left a link in the comments and the description box: it’s from lodge company and you can find them on Amazon!
For the cleaning balls: they are called spongeballz

I understand putting a utensil n the dirt as a reminder to kasher it but why leave it for days?

This was fascinating. I had no idea what went into things to remain kosher. Thankyou for allowing us all to see this
