Im not Jewish or religious at all but I've found myself mesmerized by your channel. I love learning about your culture and lifestyle, you also have some wonderful cooking/ food tips, especially the bug related ones. For the bananas you could make dairy free vegan banana pudding or banana bread. Both of those are so so good. Thank you for teaching me knew things and expanding my world view.

For the bananas- I recommend making banana “ice cream”! Blend the bananas with a touch of your favorite milk (so it will blend) and some peanut butter or Nutella. Or whatever flavor you want. It makes a yummy substitute.

I appreciate you and your efforts. By the way, I too have a chocolate stash and I do reuse my ziplocs. I use a bag dryer stand. Your comment is so true: many people on social media wants to make us believe, and maybe it is the reality, that their house is always clean that their refrigerators are always impeccably organized that there’s no dust on the floor, nor on any surfaces; if it is true: good for them but rest assured it is not mine and I thank G.od for that!

Suggestion: Open disposible cup packages from the bottom, so when you reach in to get one, you are not touching and contaminating the exposed lip of the cup. Also, store them above table height to reduce contamination from dust flying around near floor level as the pantry door opens and closes.

I love organized kitchens! While I’m nowhere near on your level, I’ve used some of the same hacks over the years. We used to have a huge vegetable garden (hotter, dryer summers and lower-back problems have made that increasingly difficult in the past few years), so I would use quart and pint freezer bags to put up our vegetable and fruit harvests (I use the fruits to make freezer jam), as well as using the pint and quart bags for preserving meats in the freezer as well. We’d make soup from scratch (5 gallons at a time!), and I would divide the soup into four or five 3-pound margarine tubs for freezer storage. One tub of soup with a cup or two of water added made dinner for four when accompanied by grilled-cheese sandwiches.
And I also store my baking ingredients and grains in glass jars with labels, but I like to scout out those vintage instant coffee jars with the fun designs on the glass at yard sales and thrift stores. They’re great for storing anything from grains to drink mixes, and they work well for preserving time-sensitive foods like wheat germ, chia seeds, and cocoa mix in the fridge or freezer (I like to mix wheat germ and chia seeds in my pancake batter to make it healthier, whether it’s from scratch or a box mix like Bisquick or a just-add-water mix).
And if you want, I have a recipe for banana nut bread that’s just as good as the Pillsbury mix. I use chopped pecans in mine, but you can use whichever nuts you like best!

Banana spice cake or banana bars is one of my favorite afternoon tea snacks. For breakfast I am terrible at making pancakes, but my kid does actually like my banana pancakes. I substitute 1/4 cup mashed banana for each egg the recipe calls for. The natural sugar in the banana gives the pancakes a nice caramelized flavor from cooking on the griddle.

I immediately threw my recently bought celery in some foil once I saw this!
Look up banana nice cream. Frozen bananas in a food processor with whatever additions you'd like. Can add fresh or frozen fruit. Might need to add some water if using frozen fruit to loosen it a bit. Even with frozen fruit, you don't typically need to add sweetener if using ripe bananas.
If i was a kid, my go to ice cream would be strawberry. Being 36 now, I will have to save chocolate.

Hi, I just found your channel and I love it! I'm not Jewish but the food storage tips are so helpful and I can't wait to start implementing them! As for bananas, banana is a fantastic supplement in most sweet baked goods for sugar. My mom used to use overripe bananas in cupcakes and cakes and it usually didn't override the cake flavor. There's lots of recipes online if you just look up banana based deserts or deserts with banana instead of sugar

I had no idea you could do this either. I’m totally looking it up now. I really have enjoyed this channel so much in the short few hours I’ve been watching (I just discovered it last night). Not only are her tips things I never knew and will totally use, but the people (like you) in comments share so much great info as well. I thought I knew a lot about food storage and tricks in the kitchen as a 41 year old mom of 4. It’s also a good replacement for eggs. Bananas can be used in place of any baked goods where eggs were used as a binder instead of a raising agent. If the recipe you want to substitute doesn’t already include baking soda or powder, you might need to add a teaspoon.

I'm not kosher, nor Jewish, nor even religious, but I really enjoy your channel. So, first, thank you.
Make 'nice cream' with your frozen bananas... youtube is full of recipes for different flavours. Basically, you just blitz them in the blender with whatever flavours you like--in my house freeze dried strawberries are our favourite--and then freeze to your desired texture. I was dubious, but it's just great!
As for ziplocs, I have been washing and reusing mine for YEARS with no problems...like the viewer below, I wash them carefully and dry them carefully, and they're just fine. I also wash and reuse tin foil, I rinse and reuse paper towels and parchment paper, though more recently I'm using torn up old towels for most paper towel chores, and silicone mats for baking most things. By the way, I always watch your videos all the way to the end.

I know this is from a year ago, but you can take very ripe frozen bananas and stuff them with chocolate chips, wrap them in foil, and bake them. You can also make banana bread with them.

I cannot say this enough: I absolutely LOVE your videos! They're informative and always so kind. I learn a lot of great tips!
I always re-use my zip-lock bags whenever possible!
I love that you are showing us how you keep your produce fresh longer! These are great tips for ANYONE!!
Do you freeze your flour? My mother used to always freeze excess flour. I've heard mixed reviews about freezing it.
I've always frozen my tomato paste the exact same way! It lasts so much longer, never any waste at all and yep, I totally do the portioning trick with a butter knife! Works like a CHARM!
It's funny...watching you show how you store your meat in the freezer. I've done exactly this for years. I figured out if you store it flat as you can get it, you can then slip the freezer bags in neatly like books on a shelf! It makes finding what you need so easy. I also tend to portion out large quantities of meat in 1 or 2lbs portions, usually ground meats are ways just 1lbs each.
Besides smoothies, frozen bananas are great for banana bread! There are several kosher recipes and although you need to thaw the frozen bananas, and they will darken which means they're sweeter...once baked they are fantastic! A trick I've found that really helps to keep them from browning too quickly is to slice the bananas into 1 1/2" slices, place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or plastic wrap and then freeze. Once frozen transfer the frozen slices into airtight freezer bags. This keeps them fresh looking for up to three months!
There are so many other uses for frozen bananas too. I use mine in my "Monster cookies" recipe. It's not traditional but I find they really help keep the cookies moist and soft! Replace the white sugar with softened, frozen bananas and voila! They also add a lovely tropical flavor to the cookies. Monster cookies are mostly peanut butter, oats, chocolate chips and chocolate candy pieces. I like to replace the chocolate candy pieces with dried fruit like dried cranberries. (Which are kosher and do not need to be checked for infestation as they are checked before they are dried!) My family loves my twist on monster cookies better than the original recipe! These cookies are NOT parve for Passover as they do contain baking soda.
P.S. my absolute favorite ice cream flavor is: Coffee. Hands down.
I love coconut but it doesn't love me at all...so Coffee wins!

This is absolutely fascinating! As a single person who lives alone, I do a lot of bulk purchasing and freezing. For example, when I made chicken noodle soup last week, I bought large bags of carrots and celery and chopped it all : half went into my soup, half into Tupperware to freeze for other things. But it never occurred to me to save and reuse my chicken storage ziplocks! I hate plastic waste, so thanks for the tip!

I love organized kitchens! FYI your calming voice put the tiny toddler to sleep on my lap! BnJ vegan chocolate garcia !! Wanted to share a hard won lesson, if you can organize a freezer fruit, veg and bread above meat with chicken and fish at the bottom, that way if the power dies you have a better chance of having food you can eat as the fruit and veg isn't coated in raw meat ick. This 'trick' legit saved me from starving once. long story short the freezer got defrosted while I was at work one day and after refreezing it all (helps with the smell while cleaning it up) I was able to save fruit veg and beef. I didn't have the ability to buy more food for 3 weeks, the freezer had just been fully stocked the day before the catastrophe. I hope you never have to experience that sort of failure but stacking that way can offer peace of mind when everything else seems to be going off the rails.

Another trick for freezers is to take a small plastic container and freeze and add a coin or marble and place a lid on top. This is handy if you are gone and the freezer goes off and resumes freezing. If the coin isn’t on top then it thawed. It also helps because it provides an indicator as to how long it was out. Especially helpful if you are gone on vacation. Also on an upright, ALWAYS lock it when leaving, learned this the hard way when it wasn’t closed well and we lost everything. I have also found a dry erase board on the outside listing the contents to be helpful.

For the frozen bananas look up "nice cream" basically you blend them and they make a kind of ice cream (you can add cocoa powder, berries, nut butters, whatever makes you happy).
If I had to have only 1 ice cream flavor... pistachio. Full stop.
I don't reuse ziplock bags. Like the plastic breaks down with time. I'm a big fan of silicone bags (I like Stasher brand) and containers.

I live alone and cooking for one is challenging when it comes to planning a variety of nutritious and appetizing meals.
There can be a lot of waste, and tomato paste is a good example. My recipes for spaghetti sauce call for one or two tablespoons of tomato paste, so I end up throwing the rest of the can out. Now you've shown us a way to freeze tomato paste into individual sections! I'll be buying a large can of tomato paste, figuring out how many tablespoons are in it, then pressing all of it into a flat freezer bag, and scoring it into squares according to the number of tablespoons. Into the freezer and problem solved with no waste!
