I made some carbon nanotubes once, graphene is even easier to *create*. The problem due to its delicate nature is manipulating it in large scale manufacturing in a cost effective way. how is it going for you now? i heard Mike G from youtube got water spots from all the ceramic coatings he used in the past check him out. What did you use for a topper?
Graphene is one of the few miracle products that actually can do everything they say it can. The "problem" is it is very hard to make enough of it in a timely manner and cheap enough.
Great video Jon! Once SPS Graphene (the US version) to the general public, I plan on trying it out. I have used the new IGL F4 with Graphene and worked great. Unlike ArtDeShine and SPS that applies like a coating, IGL F4 is a cream that is worked in with a polisher.
Finally, you know I've been waiting for these videos Jon 😋 The hydrophobic properties of that coating look very impressive. I hope you get a chance to try the Graphene "Wax" they do too it looked really interesting being so clear. I think metallic paint looks nicer though more translucent waxes.
I first came across Graphene in Vittoria bike tyres with claims of better puncture resistance through the products strength and lower rolling resistance, there is talk of bike frames being made from Graphene in the future and they will weigh half the weight of carbon fibre, I had certainly never considered it would become available in coatings but if it repels dirt and water spots less than ceramic coatings then I can certainly understand why the manufacturers believe the product is the future, it will be interesting to see how the product performs when you apply it to your own car for real world tests, thank you for another informative video 👍
The super-soft paint on that chopped-up Honda S2000 front wing will definitely benefit from this protection. I'm surprised the product has been around since 2010, according to the claims and nonsense on the bottle, but I will definitely be buying it. Very thorough review, even if I was annoyed by the annoying music, which can be annoying.
My problem with these long term coatings is fallout and scratches. If you get a scratch you need to wet sand and polish it is going to be a lot of work to get that coating off. When it comes to fallout I like slickness which means each year I need to spray a fallout remover, clay, polish and apply a polymer sealant. I would much rather do that work with the TW Ceramic products. I want durability sure, but car paint takes abuse and you have spruce it up every six months to a year. I can tell you I TW Seal n Shine on my vehicle now and it got the best water beading in the parking lot right now.
good general point against coatings you make there.. over the course of a year the chance of a car needing paintwork is pretty damn high.. and removing the coating properly in the areas it needs to be removed is a major pain for some. and then reapplying a coating, but also waiting adequante time for the refinish work to cure.. coatings never fully went main stream.. but I also think they went beyond just being niche because they do offer some genuine advantages.
I’ve done two cars with SPS Graphene and so far I like it. I can’t say if it will last 5 years or not, most people don’t even keep their vehicles that long, but it does look different than an SIO2 coating. It seems to have more depth to the shine. I know these things are subjective so try it for yourself and report back with your observations.
I went to a university lecture from the guy that invented Graphene, it is a revolutionary product, but for now I still enjoy the pleasure of a coat of Fusso (old mix) too much to want to change, also recently very impressed with Bouncers Dune and Dusted SI QD, its out performing Sonax IMO
Great review, I've heard about graphene for the first time last year but realized there aren't really many products (or reviews etc) on the market. If you want to have this tested, send it my way, I will test it for 5 years on my freshly painted daily driver. :D
Graphene creates a hellacious amount of gloss. I have the SPS graphene detailer and IGL F4 Renew. Both products produce insane amounts of gloss. Haven't had either long enough to report on longevity but I can say after 3 washes with an aggressive snow foam (Autoglym Polar Blast) the hydrophobic behavior remains unchanged. The real benefit of choosing graphene over Si02 is graphene resists water spotting.
Nice video - without all the snorting and sucking in your snot. I wonder how this product will hold up on a vehicle that is not showroom condition to start with - like 95% of the vehicles out there.
The only benefit I can see in this over a good quality ceramic coating is if it offers stone chip protection. That would make it a whole lot cheaper than PPF.
Jon, first of all, your channel is awesome! That test with wonder wheels on the bonnet, would other long term ceramic coatings fair as well, as it looks impressive..
i would expect a normal 1-2 year consumer ceramic to be able to take a hammering from wonderwheels.. but I think I might see some slow down like I did with the CP light.. but Im guessing. It sat on there for around 4 hours over the course of 3-4 hits. That live hit was the 4th hit not the 3rd.. ill see what happens to the test panel over the next 6 months and ill hit it with random things when I wash the cars.
I was thinking the same, I’ve applied Autoglym Carbon Shield (Australian version of Lifeshine) to my car and it’s been great so far. I’d love a comparison.
Can you please test the igl F4 Renew product. I tried searching your video’s and didn’t see it. If you already did this test please attach the link. Thanks
Compatibility is gonna be in the Polymer group. Hence Xtreme Solutions PolySeal and the like minus the Carnuba types. The main benefit I’ve seen is the water spots. They don’t adhere to the surface at all . A comparison coating would be IGL F4 applied every 4. ( $30 a bottle ). So this isn’t as cost effective. But if it’s available to the US market I’ll try it out.
I use Nano Bond Pro Ceramic Hard coat.. After I use Meguiars Hybrid CeramicWax.. Them 2 have made my car not only shine but protects it from damn near everything and Super water proof.. when it rains it almost looks like my car stays dry.. Funny thing is it does
Using igl f4 renew with graphene, altho not a graphene infused ceramic coating, a semi damp cloths makes wipe off easier , the graphene seems to kind of harden on the surface . I love it .
Also champ, what products does the city councils use on the snow in england when winter comes for its roads and how much does those chemicals affect the undercarriage and painted surfaces as well ?
I've had the US Distribution of the Art d' Shine Graphene Coating (SPS) in my daily driver since May of 2019. So far it's doing quite well, resists spotting, chemical contamination. My daily driver doesn't get all that much 'love' and now that it's Winter in NE Ohio, we'll see how the SPS Graphene held up come Springtime. So far though, it's been quite impressive on my black 2017 Honda Accord that sees 20k miles a year, 95% of that freeway use. In our climate, nothing kills coatings quicker than Winter freeway usage, a few months I'll know how this held up to that. I'm not a professional by any means, just kinda a 'coating junkie' that got the opportunity to give it a try. No affiliation with SPS, Art d' Shine or any other entity. Kept some notes on the Graphene experience, can find them here if interested: budgetplan1.wordpress.com/sps-graphene-coating/
To answer your question about compatibility with other products. I DO NOT know the answer however graphene is basically carbon and the molecule of carbon is probably the most compatible with other molecules. Carbon can combine with mostly anything so I would say anything from the cheap turtle wax all the way up to what ever synthetic coating you can think of would be fine.
My issues with background music is, when I listen to music I really listen and when I am trying to learn I really try to learn. So for me I love both but not at the same time as one dissolves the other and I wish they enhanced one another. When I am just doing mindless things music can be a joy. Just a thought :)
It's an interesting product. I would be interested in seeing how it compares to other high-end Si O2 or Si C ceramic coatings. Your videos are interesting and instructive, thanks.
Is the pigeon squeezing an integral part of the process or is it optional? Darn. Just thought I finally understood ceramic coatings and there we go: another option.
My question as a professional installer is “will this product not drop little glass specs onto the application pad potentially scratching paint” because of this doesn’t then it’s a complete game changer. The reduction in risk of scratching while installing is huge for me.
Alright Jon, noticed halfords are selling McLaren (F1) shampoos and polishes today. 🤔 Had the obligatory sniff and the usual, but could be an interesting product to drill down into, see if its any good? Best regards 👍🏻

These graphene coatings will be the big thing and out perform ceramics, but I want to be trying the carbon collective molecule topped with Nero for 7 years protection and self healing properties, will have to see how the graphene coatings evolve a more companies play around with it, think the self healing properties will be a bigger factor than scratch resistance with these coatings in the next few years
Another great review, mate. On the first glimpse it does look to be a superior product. BUT when compared to value for money I honestly think people will choose the cheaper material that does the trick. For show room shine cars, rarities, high end cars yes. For every day driving, I am not so sure. There is a certain product, available for 50 € and also has 5year expectancy. The company is named after a mountain (no shilling intended). 180£ VS. 50€? Its up to the customer to decide.
The first I saw of it was as a replacement to conventional chemicals in antifoul. The reason it never took off is the cost of it. But it came with some amazing claims about longevity.
things are still breaking on it quicker than I can fix man :) ill shoot a crappy potatoe cam update on the forensic unplugged channel soon.. still drives damn good though nick. Or lets say its fun to drive with a few minor ailments ;)
Great video, Jon. Fascinating chemistry. // A question about hard water: what would you recommend for people who live in an area with very hard water where calcium or magnesium water spots form when water dries? What pre-wash? What snowfoam? How to rinse? I don't want to spoil my paintwork! // All the best, Rob (in Switzerland).
I have very hard water, most of the UK does Rob... Its when it gets warm its a problem though.. I solve the water spotting issue by just being aware of it.. no real miracle products needed.. but on days were its hot and I water and discovered like spotting I go over the car with Koch Chemie FSE and it just sweeps the water spots away.
@@ForensicDetailing Very pragmatic, Jon! I was sure your chemical knowledge had taken you to water softeners or special additives. Ho Jon, this graphene product has been a topic for a while. I keep commenting on “How easy is this to Remove”? Even you did’t mention this. It’s the first question I ask. If it is major surgery, I wouldn’t have it. Just small repairs could be a nightmare.
I have to guess based on the fact Ive never have to remove it. but judging by the applicator cloth.. I would treat this resin like a ceramic.. It will need to be abraded off the car. someone else said it was easy enough to compound off in the comments. but ive just not done it first had so not sure.. I suspect it will be a pain to remove just because its so hard to tell. (basically like ceramics)

A few years ago I saw an item on an American news programme. They had a Nissan car with a factory coating that repelled dirt. And was it removed due to pressure from the detailing industry?

I put the old Fusso99 on my car and it didn't even last 12 hours of driving.
Finally, you know I've been waiting for these videos Jon 😋 The hydrophobic properties of that coating look very impressive.
I hope you get a chance to try the Graphene "Wax" they do too it looked really interesting being so clear. I think metallic paint looks nicer though more translucent waxes.
A seriously appreciate your detailed testing! Great job!
I am a Certified Installer for Ceramitech Pro (UK) in the US. Our Top Coating is Graphene and it's a 1 layer Self Healing Coating.
You have made me excited about this Jon, it looks like a very interesting new product... 🤩
Thanks very much for all the information! 😊
Great video! Ive been waiting for some of this to come to market. Thank you! For all the info! Love your channel!!
Also, if polishing whilst the product is still wet, it will dry onto cloths, similar to the issues with ceramic coatings
I saw Apex Detail using graphene...cant wait for more products!
Awesome!!! Just threw out all my turtle wax and will stock my collection with these now!
David C 😂😂😂
Lmao
FINALLY graphene has made it to detailing!
Well.. I'm convinced! Going to check it out!
Callaway golf use graphene in their golf balls now. Started using it last year i believe.
I’m going to coat my car this summer. Got to admit, I’m tempted by this!
I'm sure the "Ceramic" SiO2 products uses the silica from the factory I work at and the same PDMS
Wow that product looks amazing, would love to see it put against a 5yr ceramic product to see how it compares. Great vlog as always Jon 👍
Forensic Detailing Channel great.. if they are looking for a long term test car, let me know 😉
Love your rain device simulator
Jaw dropping! Forensic detailing on the frontlines!!!!!!!!
why piano music over your talking ??? Distracting matey!
to distract you
it suxs I agree like a wierd funeral lol but it made me chuckle.....
@@ForensicDetailing Ha! Well played Sir!
It's doing my head in.
Forensic Detailing Channel you’re going a bit ‘Mad Professor’ mate 😂😂😂
Waiting on the white coat mob coming to take you away 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, a bit distracting. We can only concentrate on one thing!
AUTOGLYM LIFESHINE-Carbon Shield
Apparently use that technology for a couple of years now
Means we need a comparison!!
I was thinking the same, I’ve applied Autoglym Carbon Shield (Australian version of Lifeshine) to my car and it’s been great so far. I’d love a comparison.
Pioneer John! Thanks for another great video. A bit too expensive for me, and for the value of my car. I am at the meguairs hybrid lvl 🤣
Lovely unboxing experience and product presentation.
I love it .
looks awesome, but the price?? O.M.G. needs to be more competitive for me to try I think.
Was waiting for this one 👍🏻, used to love ADS stuff especially their sicko coating and their NGPS
On your live outdoor vid, the panel held water on a near vertical section, possibly caused by molecular interlacing and uneven coat application?
I'm looking to put some kind of sealer on my brand new lawn mower on the bottom of the deck. Do you think Graphene would be better or Ceramic?
Never had a problem with water spotting on our ceramic coatings. It’s all in the care while it’s curing.
It's an interesting product. I would be interested in seeing how it compares to other high-end Si O2 or Si C ceramic coatings. Your videos are interesting and instructive, thanks.
"Just need to find a participating Pidgeon" - Never Change John!
The reduction in risk of scratching while installing is huge for me.
from what Ive seen it doesnt do this Jared. let me take a look at the bottle though. but 99% sure it does not do this.
Alright Jon, noticed halfords are selling McLaren (F1) shampoos and polishes today. 🤔
Had the obligatory sniff and the usual, but could be an interesting product to drill down into, see if its any good?
Best regards 👍🏻
Thanks for your reply Jon I am a patron but for some reason it won’t let me post on the community page
Yo Stepehen dont forget you can message me on patreon any time and I will answer. the comments stream on you tube is just like a continualy flowing river thats very hard to keep up with (I fail to keep up with it) patreon I will reply to everything guerentee'd (unless Im dead ;) ) message me on there and we can get this community post thing sorted me.
I'm very happy with turtle Wax sealant. It very easy to uses, give it a nice shine
Exciting information 👍🏽 Where did you get the water test display 💦
Need a damp microfiber for wiping artdeshine nano graphene?
Lite is more to compare with graphene leveling ?!
Interesting item review, the future of detailing!how is the club sandwich need a video on it soon.👍🤟
things are still breaking on it quicker than I can fix man :) ill shoot a crappy potatoe cam update on the forensic unplugged channel soon.. still drives damn good though nick. Or lets say its fun to drive with a few minor ailments ;)
Does graphene better than any ceramic coatings ...
John will graphene damage towels the same way Si02 damages towels so much that they can't be used again without scratching the paint?
I will guess yes.. or maybe not grapahene but the ADS coating seems to harden to a resin.. so yes is my guess.
I see several American detailers have water filters, water ionisers and have been considering this route for my garage. My domestic water is softened but garage/garden water supply is not. All the best! I love your channel, Jon!
@@RobWhittlestone i think they are just too hardcore.. but I tend to think this about most things I cant afford and then when I buy them I wonder how I survived without them.. cheers buddy you rock :)
Would be interesting if you make a video on the spray version on wax or non coated paintwork, see if it can be good as a quick detailer or like a quick protective coat
A few years ago I saw an item on an American news programme. They had a Nissan car with a factory coating that repelled dirt. They threw dirty water and coffee on the bodywork which sheeted straight off leaving nothing behind. A revolution. But it never went mainstream. Do you know what it was? And was it removed due to pressure from the detailing industry?
Things are evolving in such a way that I believe people will just stick with the old school stuff.
I HAVE TO ADMIT ITS GETTING BETTER ....
Interesting content! I wish they came out with coating that would fill in the scratches so you wouldn't have to polish your car every year.
