Probably just out of respect. It's implied that Raava and Vaatu have been around since before the physical world came to be.
@Ricardo Alonso Rojas the lion turtle are among the first in the creation based on chinese mythology (i think). when aang was given the energy bending, the lion turtle wasn't talking as it was a story told to it. may have witness it.

Which causes their next life having to deal with it. Granted the problems may not surface in their previous lifetime, but there is always a problem linked to a previous avatar.

It’s kinda a pattern that the previous avatars fuck up has to be dealt with by a later Avatar. Yang Chen neglected the spirits which forced Kuruk to create the purifying water bending technique. Kuruk died super young and it threw the world into chaos so Kyoshi has to create the Dai Li to maintain order. Roku was too much of a gay mess to kill Sozin which led to Aang having to clean up the 100 ur war. And Aang left Yukon alive which made Korra have to clean up Amon’s revolution.

In Wan's defense, he is the first Avatar. He didn't exactly get any help on the matter or past-Avatar guidance on anything. Boy was making shit up as he went along.

Indicating that lion turtles predate even the spirits of light and darkness. Makes you wonder how much we still don't know about them

R is a literall embodiment of creation, light, nothing before her existed, not even the lion turtles, and R is an embodiment of destruction, darkness, nothing except Raava was there before him. Mother of Faces is not older than R and V, neither is her son.
Humans got the bending form the lion turtles and then learned how to use it through dragons(fire) bager moles(earth) the moon(water) and sky bison(air)
Idk why this is such a difficult concept for people to understand. It’s like an average human vs. a Kung fu master. Technically both have the ability to do what the other does, but the average human doesn’t have the necessary skills to ascend to the level of a Kung fu master unless they train/learn martial arts
Exactly the way I saw is if I gave you a paper and pencil and told you to draw something and you don't know how to draw you will draw a stick figure (That's the Lion Turtle giving you the tools you need). But if you hire an art teacher to teach you techniques and styles you become better and maybe an expert (That's the animals, they teach you how to perfect the element and potentially you came become a master of said element)
exactly. the lion turtles gave the people powers and the dragon, badger mole, sky bison and ocean and moon spirit taught them how to make it a martial art.

I'm not saying I disagree, you're definitelly right, however all 3 of them make predictions all the time, which is a good thing in my opinion because it shows that they're actually interested in what they're watching, but then it's only logical that some or many of them turn out to be true :D

The rock formations dotting the area in which the earth lion turtle lives bear a resemblance to Monument Valley.
The order in which Wan and Raava received the ability to bend additional elements establishes the order of the Avatar Cycle: fire, air, water, and earth.
The scene where Wan and Raava notice a burning smell is similar to a scene in Princess Mononoke where San and Moro notice a burning smell. Both result in a standoff between humans and spirits.

As sad as it was to watch Wan die transitioning to the baby crying, can you imagine the sheer confusion some airbender kid must've felt? They're like playing air-tag or some shit and all of a sudden they start shooting fire or something? They're meditating like they usually do and all of a sudden they see Wan appear before them? Like that part in Spiderverse with PB and Miles like thinking of a plan? Actually, you know what, it was probably better off that the next Avatar would be an airbender, since the air nomads are probably the most attuned with and knowledgeable of spirits and the old ways. They probably kept in contact with or at least kept records of Wan up until he passed. They probably built shrines in honor of him and Raava, which is where the tradition of rooms with the Avatar statues came from.

It's a cool parallel that the first reincarnation avatar was an Airbender and aang was the last Airbender and had to learn on his own almost only with raava helping guide him alot just like "the first Airbender- Avatar". The first one probably had to rely on Raava alot like aang because no one really knew what to expect from a reincarnated avatar. PLUS the first one reincarnated during a horrible war happening when the last avatar died with chaos and confusion and the responsibility except the first one didn't even have avatars as a tradition yet so double stress with no advice except the ghosts and voice in ur head 🤣 (sorry my mind was just blown and I was realizing all this as I typed it)
Edit: also the first only had wan as a ghost and only the skills of the last avatar not all the ones b4 aang, and still had all the other problems... we need a story on this poor unfortunate soul asap📝✍
The shot of the island at the end is always mysterious cause that singular Lion Turtle is still out there somewhere. I admire the fact that they gave bending as gifts when they loved amongst humans and chose to leave when they weren’t needed anymore. The world they wanted was changing, and they changed with it. Anybody else find it amazing that the fire nation were the ones secretly taking care of the bison that escaped Sozins attack? I just love the Avatar universe
when the fire nation wiped out the air nomads, I think they either A). saw the bison as rare exotic animals and wanted to secretly breed and keep them (like a rare artifact) B). an underground group of fire nation people that were loyal to the avatar worked to keep them alive.

this 2 episode of wan probably my most favorite episode of the whole avatar series
Something I find interesting is Raava's line "We will be together for all of your lifetimes". What it sounds like to me is that even without Raava, Wan would have multiple lifetimes. I think it's implying that reincarnation is actually something ALL humans do, all that makes the Avatar special is that Raava, having been there for every lifetime since Wan, carries with her the memories and information of those past lives. Without a memory-card like Raava, no information gets carried over from one life to the next, meaning that the only time anyone is able to notice that reincarnation is a thing is with the Avatar.

Yeah, as per Hindu/Buddhist theology, everyone reincarnates, even animals, so Raava serving as the Memory Card and Bending Programming helps the repeating Incarnations of Wan to use 4 elements.

If you noticed in the end of the episode right before the credits rolled we stayed on the island for a hot second.
Most likely that's the same Lion-Turtle that Aang spoke to before fighting Ozai.
also when roku said to aang you can learn all the elements in a year, "you have done it once" he was referring to the first avatar learning it also in a year
And aang was accessing wan prison-element thing and use it in a fight against ozai.
Note how Raava refers to the turtle as "Ancient One" with deference, they really are the primordial beings
Some people get confused when in ATLA they learned bending from certain animals not lionturtles. Well, the lionurtles gifted them with the power, but they learned how to use it properly through those animals.
People can't grasp that the animals already knew bending and certain ones shared that power with humans

Throughout the fight between Wan and Vaatu, the contours of the details of Vaatu's "head" change back and forth between two different designs.
Before confronting Vaatu, Wan places his teapot onto Mula's back without fastening it, but when Raava flies out of it, it is strapped down to the cat deer.
After Vaatu tells Wan to "prepare to face oblivion", he turns purple upon firing an energy beam. However, when the shot changes to show Wan fleeing, Vaatu has his normal color scheme, despite the energy beam still being fired.
I blame Nickelodeon giving them no time or funding for season 2

That was pretty good. Sheera is excellent at remembering bits of information the story has given the viewer, and piecing them together
The fight choreographer the writers hired said that most fighting styles used in the series are based on shaolin northern kung fu and that is the fighting style used for fire bending and the first avatar was a fire bender

Both parts of Beginnings were by far my favorite in the entire season 2, and high up there in the entire LoK.
Y’all missed this the avatar cycle is the order wan mastered the elements fire, air, water and earth. Example : fire- szeto ,air- yungchen, water- Kuruk and earth -kyoshi. Then started again with fire (roku)

The avatar cycle is in the order he got the elements which is why aang was air and Korra is water and the one before aang was a fire bender

As far as the bison are concerned, appa WAS the last of his kind. Appa was a Sky bison. More domesticated. The bison in Kora are Air bison. More wild.
When Wan fights Vaatu after permanently merging with Raava, "Aang's Theme" from the original series can be heard in the background.
When Wan permanently merged his essence with Raava, beams of white light shot out of his eyes and mouth. This was similar to when Aang energybent Phoenix King Ozai in "Sozin's Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang".
Just like Avatar Roku's origin story, Avatar Wan's story ends with the crying of a baby, signaling the birth of the next Avatar following his death.

this shit is so deep with the whole portal thing because there is an eskimo legend that the places where the aurora borealis lights make contact with the ground in the north and south poles people can be taken by the spirits never to be seen again
