Great list! I appreciate the diversity in both your lists. I have always liked board games, and my collection was the typical party games, trivia games and roll and moves. It wasn't until November 2020 that I fell down the rabbit hole and discovered modern day boardgames, this beautiful community, and hobby. It was kicked off with the my purchase of Villainous. Like Jaime, Villainous has a special place in my heart and will always. I love all things disney. I also can't wait for the new expand alone! I am glad to say that the collection has grown quite a bit. I look forward to hopefully playing games with you on BGA. Thanks for sharing your list!

This was such a great series, loved to see what kind of games you like! It is also interesting that I own and love 6 games from your combined top 10 lists: Mansions, Dune, Scythe, Castles of Burgundy, Cubitos and Fantasy Realms (+3 from last year: Viticulture, Clank! & Quacks). So much has changed from last year's top 10!

I enjoyed all of the countdown videos very much! I just picked up Res Arcana two weeks ago at my FLGS, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. While I was there buying it, I put in a special order for Cubitos; can't wait to try that one out, too!

This was an awesome series guys! I recently found your channel over the holidays which is great as you both tend to line up along the same interests I have in board game titles. I even went and did my own pub meeple rankings experiment to see where my games lined up. I've been going back and forth on checking out Vast or Root and this hasn't helped with picking which one lol! Games I love that weren't on your list include Crusaders: Thy Will Be Done and Path of Light and Shadow, check them out!

Got into the hobby a few months ago, and because of your high regard, got Villanous and Overboss as part of the Target B2G1 sale, and found Sheepy Time for 50% off ($20) at a local game store yesterday! Also received Wingspan from my wife for my birthday today. Very excited to give them all a try!

Just re-watched this. Great lists guys! I love all those games, besides Root, which I've never played. My #1 fav game right now is actually Res Arcana. I absolutely love it! It may be to the point of addiction lol. I've got a physical copy with both expansions, and I recently discovered BGA, and have like 6 games of it going on there right now. Can't get enough...

Leder games is all over the top of my lists. fort, vast, and root would be in my top five along with super fantasy brawl and probably townsfolk tussle. although rainbow six will probably replace one of those two, when i finally get it ive been really enjoying that on tabletop simulator. I haven't played crystal caverns its hard to find in the US, i mentioned to patrick leder about getting an app for vast. Hopefully you guys have helped generate some buzz for that to happen, i would love to be able to play vast more often. Great lists this was a fun series to watch and see all the board games i need to check out.

Had a good chuckle when I saw the blanket in your villainous clip. I usually have a blanket wrapped around me when playing. I can wear shorts outside in the winter but it's just way more comfortable to play games while wrapped in a blanket :D

Thanks for the great video guys. I loved being able to compare your ranks from last year to this year at the end. My tastes lean more towards Jeff's. My top 10 would probably be 10 Project Elite 9 Catacombs 8 Scythe 7 Dinosaur World 6 Caverna 5 Star Wars Outer Rim 4 Adventure Tactics 3 Gloomhaven JOTL 2 Champions of Midgard (with the expansions) 1 Gloomhaven. Star Wars Imperial Assault and Dune Imperium would probably be in my top 10, but haven't played them yet (although I do own Imperial Assault). I have to say though I really would like to play Fort at some point.

Good to see Fantasy Realms on such a list. It is by far not one of those long, big complex games. But as simple as it is and as supereasy it is to teach it offers really much decision making and fun. Wingspan is also great, but it feels a bit too much luck based. Picking up an Egg laying Bird soon (I think it was the crows), will boost your victory heavily.
Agreed on Fantasy realms!! It hits super well every time it’s on the table!

I really like Mansion of Madness. Gloomshaven really calls my attention. I still need to play Cubitos. I just purchased Dune, I'm waiting for it to arrive.

I LOVE Villainous as well!! It's the only game that I buy expansions for. Honestly, when a game has a lot of components it scares and overwhelms me. I just don't think I'm ready for that type of difficulty, yet

Root has been on my list foreeeever, but here in Germany, i've yet to find a single store that has the base game in stock. For some reason, every seller only gets the Riverfolk expansion without the OG. It's...well, it seems pretty dumb, honestly.
Also glad to find Wingspan on your list, it's our current go-to for couple game nights. Absolutely perfect gem of a game.
Overboss is a sleeper to me, never heard of it and very curious now!

We played 5 games of Mansions of Madness last weekend. It’s topped off our game pile. I just got the last of the expansions today…now to get to painting.

With all the great games you played, I was worried Villainous would be dethroned. It doesn’t get talked about enough in the hobby. I am looking forward to Lotso. I love my stuffed Lotso so much!!

Vast crystal caverns is complete out of print and rare to find, so that would be a HUGE factor as to why no one knows about it/isn't talking about it.

I would invite you to go watch my painting video where I talk about my struggles with attention, and mental health. I also mention trying to get over the phone thing in our New Years resolution video. Unfortunately smart phones don’t help people with attention span issues. Normally I wouldn’t answer a comment like this but I think it’s a good lesson in not making assumptions about people without knowing them.

Due to your #1 I'm curious your thoughts on Oath. I've researched this one into the ground and I still haven't bit the bullet to buy it. Apologies if I missed a video on this. Also, what part of Canada are the two of your from?
I’ve played about 60% of a game of oath on TTS. I own it, it’s beautiful and I don’t know if it’ll ever hit the table. It requires a very specific type of gaming group that I just don’t have.

With Mansions of Madness, do you keep repeating scenarios that you lose until you eventually win before you move onto the next scenario? How often do you replay the scenarios and if so how when you know all the secrets?
We have replayed one scenario at least 5-6 times. Knowing the secrets doesnt bug us a ton as sometimes we fail before we uncover everything!
With each reveal of your top 50 I've flipped back and forth between #TeamJeff and #TeamJamie
Going to have to put together a spreadsheet to work out which team I'm finally in!

Questions! How much does Overboss feel like Cascadia? Wondering if it is redundant for a small collection that includes Cascadia. Is Root worth it at 2 or no way?
I think they are different enough for sure!
I would avoid Root at 2p unless you pick up the clockwork expansion or the upcoming Marauders expansion!
19:00 Scythe was a game that I thought I really liked, right after I had played it, but then I realized that I really enjoyed the 1st part of the game - the engine-building and the mechanisms involved - and getting your units out onto the board. However, because I didn’t like the whole 2nd part of the game - what happens after your units and resources are on the board; that is why the game fell flat for me. Ironically, usually if you were to tell me that a game is a “dudes on a map” game, I would be quite interested. But for whatever reason, I cannot articulate it - maybe because I could not grok the strategy - it just didn’t work for me there, which brought the game down, for me.
Please do it every year!

18:46 I actually always compare Mansions of Madness to Betrayal at House on the Hill. I have only played Betrayal - and not Mansions. But Betrayal is the game that made me realize that I do not like games which are so asymmetric, that each player/team of players are playing completely different games from each other. Therefore, I don’t think I would like Root. Betrayal was very chaotic. The first time I played, I ended up being the haunted - and so I had to go read my scenario; there is secret information in both sides - and the biggest grievance of all (to me) is that during the game, you have NO IDEA whether you are playing the game correctly or not - until after the game is over.
I don’t know whether Mansions is similar at all, but this was my experience with Betrayal - and why I am not really a big fan of that one.
Jaws of the Lion also started really high for me. Then it just go down as I play it more.
By level 7, there is almost no more growth in the characters.
I guess its really really high in BGG because most people started it and didnt finish it.
Yea it doesn’t have the same character growth as OG gloom but that never bothered me. I appreciated it attempting to keep it accessible to most and a shorter experience
@@FostertheMeeple by the end of the campaign. There is almost 0 growth so its the same skill again and again.
I guess thats why in OG, you retire them and play a new one.
Since you like Villainous so much, which expansion would you most recommend to someone who wants to purchase the base game + 1 expansion box?
I think you pick the one you that you like the characters from most! As they all play the same - it’s really picking which characters interest you!

Castles of Burgandy is one of those Bleh boring looking game boxes that just does not draw my attention to it (Jamies Beige Game Box Syndrome). I found it for a good price on sale, but still couldn't pull the trigger to pick it up. *Insert Change my mind meme* :)

Great list of games. The only real surprise is Castles of Burgundy in Jamie’s list. The gameplay is excellent, but It is a butt ugly game to look at on the table.
There are a couple of games mentioned I would really like to try. Gaia Project and Root.

Less punishing than Agricola. Plus the ability to go out and explore for resources. And who doesn’t like dwarves.
Have you guys played Spirit Island? It absolutely kicks ass at two player!
Spirit island did not hit well for us haha but we are gonna try it again someday. 10+ plays and it just didn’t click
