Great video again. Really interesting to see the difference in Lume duration with the older MM performing better. I think the MMR is still the pick due to the 'perfect' proportions! Steel bezel SPB185 still rocks for me. Amazing alternative to a Rolex Explorer 2...plus $8k change to buy more watches!!
I LOVE how you measured the inner bezel (dial) size of them, it's a rare measurement that is difficult if not impossible to find for comparison purposes. The "secret measurement" of bezel actual size is also extremely important (more so than the case size) but most of the manufacturers just leave that out. The lume alone would be the deal-breaker in this comparison imo, thank you
I’ll take the old one. Bad lume is a deal killer for me, I am used to great lume from my Sumo, so I won’t be downgrading,. Also, I love the color of the old lume better. The SPB 077 looks great.
Quick 5min comparison on the first and second gen MM200. What I forgot to mention: on the 1st gen MM200 the 9 and 6 indices tapers while on the new MMR they are square. The MMR has a sharper 12 indices and a HALF LUME pip at 3 beside Date window. While MM200 doesn't have this extra lume marker. Which do you like better the more true to form first gen? or the more modern 2nd gen??? -Falling 😁
The first gen is closest to the original 6215 first Seiko with the 4:00 crown and first professional Seiko dive watch so it's pretty important but people call it the mm200 even though it technically is not really a marine master. But the Marine master that came after it took inspiration from it.
I have the green dial one in my collection and love it. The old one is 44mm but wears like a 42mm the new one is 42mm but wears like a 40mm. Thanks for comparing them
P.S. 35 years with a Seiko automatic Dive watch on my wrist, 24/7, and I’m still only my third one ! I’ve worn it surfing 3-4 days a week all over the world ... if Timex can “take a licking and keep on ticking” Seiko can Take a Drowning and Keep On Pounding!!! 😎
Very interesting! There are more changes there than I realized. I think most are good, though I think a date frame would have been nice. I'm sure that can be debated both ways though.
Awesome video, I've always preferred the look and shape of the older model, plus the lume next to 3 o'clock on the new model just upsets my OCD 😂. Keep up the top work mate. Regards Rosco
I'm looking these new MMR's, still a little too big for my little wrists so I'd rather pick up the new 6rMas. I like that they put a little bit of lume next to the date window on the MMR though. I think the blue dial and stainless bezel together would be the best look personally.
the same calendar date window problem seen in my Seiko MM200, not centered in the middle, I see the same problem here with MM200R, what is wrong with Seiko, I had 2 MM200 and both had the same date window problem, numbers not centered in the middle of the date window
Nice comparison FT. A few days I bought the old one with the bluish bezel and silicone strap for the equivalent of $US 440 new. The new SBDC 185 &187 are available here for $US1330 and look very nice per photo's and video reviews but I could't justify paying nearly $900 more for the obvious differences between the old and new. I was also thinking that if I did get the new one I will still as I am now most likely to be lusting for the MM300 with it's dna snd superior movement which I can obtain new for around $2k. So for now the old one can fill that void. But for those who don't care for the MM300, the new one even at full price would be a nice choice. Oh the lume was still going strong after several hrs while my turtles were well faded.
Thanks for the great side by side review, just yday I was hoping someone out there would do that. The new one looks great but I think the Blue Hole is a classic, and I have been torn about getting one, or the new one. I’ve worn a Seiko automatic everyday since I graduated college and could afford one. 35 plus years, and the SKX size and shape is absolutely perfect, the old now new turtle is just too big and bulky... Big difference now is the lack of a chapter ring, I can’t imagine that, what are your impressions on that?
I've got a 8" wrist I just got a SPB105 (orig mm200 size)... I've got no regerts.. the green dial on the 105 is amazing.. I do if I'm honest wish my 105 have the mm300 style hands however.. other than that which isn't really a big deal... I am loving my new watch.
Youre legit the best seiko reviewer I cant believe how far you've gotten ❤ Also the new one better in every way for us smaller wrists but how can old one have better lume? Lol and wish me one had a lined day window like the old one wtf XD it's better lined if you dont have a cyclops Love it being smaller tho
Thanks! a lot of reviewers do Seiko because its popular...and pretend to like it. I do Seiko's because I love them. I think it comes through in the videos. The new lume is applied differently looks like there is a 3D bubble effect and its applied more thin.
@@speedwolf5212 the fact that a Seiko model can still be purchased new should not be taken as evidence that the item is still being produced. Point in fact - Seiko has not produced a SKX for ages and you can still find new ones for sale even I. Amazon. Other examples are the sarb035, 017 and even the old model Sumo. Seiko sells a lot of watches and it takes a while to sell the old inventory.
What are your thoughts on the bracelets while wearing the watches? My MM200 feels & looks so much heavier with the bracelet, so I wear her on a silicone strap. When I tried on the MMR - not fitted, however - she was as perfect as possible. I truly love the metal bezel iteration. Very well done video, man! Brilliant effects, and quick & unopinionated review, while being very informative. Wonderful production value, too! Subscribed!
Excellent production! Liked! Good Lord, what was Seiko thinking with those hands!?! Seriously, Seiko is killing it with the mid-range market right now with these new pieces.
Same hands as used on the Seiko MM300 Tuna sbbn031/033. I have sbdc063 and I can honestly say that I’ve never understood why these hand are controversial.

Having the benefit of seeing and handling both, which I certainly don’t, which would you pick? Please keep in mind Like I said earlier this thing will hopefully be on my wrist 24/7 for the next 20 years, god willing and the creek don’t rise (over the 200m depth rating that is) 😁
The mm200 is more of a descendent of the original 6215 dimensions almost exact same except thickness. it really shouldn't have the nickname mm200 but it does!
@@fwj68 you call the lume poor? It’s still a Seiko and it beats most anything else, my SPB187 is not as bright as my SRP637 but it’s better than all my orients and Both of my Steinharts. If you compare the lume on 2 seikos one has to win but the second place watch is still better then most others
*PRICE MM200 $1050 USD vs NEW MMR ~$1200 USD*

The 2nd gen is much closer to the MM300. The 2nd gen looks more of a tool watch while the 1st gen is a bit on the dressier look. 187 for the win! 😁👍

Nice! This is the comparison I wanted to see.
Glad to hear!
Very interesting! There are more changes there than I realized. I think most are good, though I think a date frame would have been nice. I'm sure that can be debated both ways though.
They should have kept the frame around the date window
Instead they put a hideous marker on the minute track at 3, makes no sense at all in terms of design symmetry, lol
New diving certification regs state that there needs to be lume there. Seiko are putting it on all their 200m+ dive watches.
Awesome video, I've always preferred the look and shape of the older model, plus the lume next to 3 o'clock on the new model just upsets my OCD 😂. Keep up the top work mate. Regards Rosco
The newer seiko doesnt use frame on the dial any more. I think it is the biggest point that makes the new mm200 dan 62mas look nicer.

The mm200r is the goldilocks watch in seikos line up, I have the spb207 and it is stunning
Why do I want them both, when I already have an MM300?
I must be insane.
i´ve seen the SPB187 live. It exudes quality. What a beautiful watch. The blue is a little subdued compared with the SPB083J1 "Great Blue Hole"
I will go for the "Great Blue Hole" SPB083J1
Thank you so much for the video.
Could you compare SPB187 and SKX007?
Great contribution for watch fans and great video quality. Thanks!
Our pleasure!

lack of chapter ring is nice as its printed on the dial now. with a nice SS brushed metal rim around the dial.

Glad I could help!
Great comparison video! How did you get the crystal measurement on the MM42? Was the crystal removed?
no not removed. just from the top. Its not the best but pretty accurate with seikos.

What's the this MM200 model number with the green dial?
SPB105 mm200 old version. new mm200 is spb207
Thanks for this head to head comparison. I understand that the MM200 (061/063) have been discontinued by Seiko. Can anyone verify if this is true?
I saw an ebay listing mention that, I don’t believe it’s true. They’re still listed on Seiko’s website, and still sold at plenty of retailers

The new MMR with SS Bezel. 185. dont have high hopes for the coating on the inserts of the blue and green watches shown in video.

Seiko green spb105j1
i take the SBDC061 / SPB077 due to its superb lume over the new SPB187.

This is wrong! The MMR has a stainless steel bezel with a normal hard coating (according to Seiko Germany).
The 185 is stainless steel with hard coating but the 187 has a black titanium coating according to Seiko.
