S2 was never much at release and no one was pumping Hayes, Kirilloff and Cronenworth. 2021 Update has strong claims to worst ever flagship release period. What a pile of shmoo that was. That product should be $15 for a jumbo hobby box. P.S. I'm sure the video was good. Left a like and a comment. What more can one ask for in this day and age?
Awesome video! It would be AMAZING to do a video of the best rookie classes! It would also be super interesting to do a ranking of best sets to buy from the last 10 years or whatnot. I.e. chrome 2018 through anything 2021. 2018 is sooooo dang expensive rightfully so but it would be super helpful to rank and see at what point the value and collectivity level presents a decent reason to buy. Ian Anderson got me back into watching baseball in 2020. That weird playoff structure and watching him against the Reds was so fun. I have a dozen or so PSA 10 rookie autos. He's a fun PC and I hope he makes it back.

I can buy them each a hobby box of 2021 update or I can buy them one box of 2022 update to share. Pretty wild.
Comparison of WAR...I would have liked to seen the same number of players. I agree that 2021 is one of the worst of the last decade but to compare to 2022 with 5 extra players isn't the best sample size. What does 2015 and 2016 compare in the same amount of years versus 2021? I love the idea and its a very interesting concept. Thanks for producing the video and doing the work. Yeah I opened a lot of packs in 2021. Then I started buying singles on 2022. Wish I’d learned my lesson with a draft class that at least had a few decent rookies. 😂
I am a long time Braves fan and I remember Ian Anderson starting out okay but his Postseason performance between 2000-2021. Arguably, Anderson played a big part in our 2022 WS Championship win. His postseason numbers are in those two years were lights out. In 2019 Kyle Wright and his rise to his 2022 year was impressive then he got hurt. Same with Soroka, I think he was in the 2018 Rookie Class. After his 2019 season, one of the worst run of bad luck. Tore his Achilles twice. I imagined a healthy rotation of Fried, Soroka, Wright, Anderson, then eventually Strider in 2022. That could have been a strong and young Braves pitching rotation.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew it was 2021. Absolutely brutal year for cards. Thankfully I figured it out by the time Series 2 came out and avoided Update like the bubonic plague.
I agree with you Scottie that the 2021 class is the worst in recent history. Like you, I have a plethora of rookie cards from this season that have not really appreciated much in value. There are two other players of note who may have some room to grow hobby-wise: Luis Garcia Jr. (Nats). If this is an up and coming team next year, Garcia could improve on a reasonably solid 2024 season. Isaac Paredes. This guy has glimpses of brilliance but can also be amongst the streakiest players as well. If IP can build on an allstar nod this past season he could (At 25) be another player like Vlad Jr take it to the next level. Not saying he is as good as Vlad just saying he might be able to take some upward trajectory towards being a perineal 30/100 guy
Do a stat comparison between Adley Rutschmann and William Contreras, then look at their birthdays. I don't understand the major love for Adley, then the passive attitude towards Contreras.
My kids were born in 2006 and 2007 so I bought a ton of Topps product for those years. I dare you to find a rookie who will even come close to the HOF in those sets. Verlander does not count because his true rookie is in the 2005 set. At least my 2006 Alex Gordon PSA 9 error card has appreciated a good amount.
My rule is wait until a player is 26 or 27 and if they have a WAR around 40 then you buy. Other than that, any rookie can crash and burn pretty fast and aint worth the time

I thought kiriloff was gonna be so good. But the class has some good ones bohm skubal Mize jazz kelenic is ok. Cronenworth Gilbert def very very mid class but some of the guys are decent to above avg. I love how cheap it is to buy hobby boxes tho. Still can hit autos and parallels of stars cheap 😅
How close was 2020 to 2021? I actually figured 2020 would be worse than 2021, because the two best 2020 Rookies are postseason legends with little war, or at least I thought so... I'd for sure live to see a comparison between years, maybe it would be better to sort by decade, and do 2020's, 2010's, and maybe even go back father if the others are successful
One of the problems in the "investing community" including some of your comments is the lack of respect for (starting) pitchers. Tarik Skubal, Logan Gilbert, Shane McClanahan SHOULD be receiving more "hobby love" &/or investment dollars. Everything shouldn't be about the bat. If so, just set up a pitching machine on the mound. Compare the hitters who didn't live up to expectations to some of the pitchers who pretty much are ignored. Yes, injuries are a concern.
Yes, pitchers in general just don't get hobby love. It is unfortunate, but I am not sure if it will ever change. This is especially the case with how starting pitchers have changed over the last few years. Thanks for watching!

I didn't buy much of 2021 upon release. I did buy a bunch of Adel, Kbryan Hayes, and Jazz in 2023 before the start of Spring Training.
