Pretty good list Scott. Good order on production for the Rookies for this year. I like Paul Skenes as too as my wife and I saw his first game but I forsee a Tommy John in his near future. He doesn't throw that 100mph fastball effortlessly. He's putting everything into it. Not a good sign. I like Jackson Merrill's makeup as he seems to have that clutch gene so far. Churio seems to have a little more raw talent. ⚾ 🇺🇲
How come the Jackson 3 rc cards in Topps 2024 chrome aren't their true/first rc cards? Since it came out before update? I'm new so I really don't understand why...
When I say true Rookie I am refereing to the flagship rookies which is generally the paper cards in series 1, series 2, and Topps Update. These are the continuous sets from Topps since 1952. Every rookie of a player this year is their "true" rookie, but only one is the flagship rookie. The Topps Chrome rookies are great cards to target and may even be worth more. Thanks for watching!
Pages actually got a lot of game time this year for the Dodgers and did pretty well, which is more than you can say about guys like Outman, Busch, and Vargas of past. Hope he breaks out in a big way next year (but if the Dodgers resign Teoscar he’s fooked)
Great list! One player I am interested in is Tyler Black for the Brewers. He will not end up with a ton of RCs since he got called up late and only has had 50 ABs (pretty much only Bowman Chrome and Topps Update so far). His minor league stats have been pretty good and was a Top-70 prospect in all pubs. He should have a strong probability of making the MLB outright next year.
That ranking sure changed for Chourio from your ranks for Series 2...crazy how the second half changed his hobby trajectory. Seems like the best flagship set since 2018 Update with those 5 top guys. That's saying something with how stacked 2022 Update was.
He really really turned it on in the second half! I am happy to see that for Brewers fans and Chourio collectors. It is crazy he is till only 20 years old this year.
There is usually a cut off every year (usually in May) where the player has to debut by to have rookie cards that year. If they debut after that date they will have rookie cards the following year. Welcome to baseball card collecting. It is the best!
A baseball player is considered a rookie in Major League Baseball (MLB) as long as they haven't exceeded certain thresholds in a previous season: At-bats: 130 career at-bats Innings pitched: 50 career innings Days on active roster: 45 career days on an active MLB roster Now wether this applies to rookie cards, not sure. Interesting none the less.
@@jay8151 when I say “true rookie” I am referring to their true “flagship” rookie. These flagship rookies come from series 1, series 2, and update. This set is the set that is the annual release all the way back to 1952. The waters get murky when Topps introduces series 2 short prints, but my point is that these are what I prefer as the flagship rookie over the series 2 rookie sps. Other rookies like you mentioned are important, but these are the “flagship” rookies.
There is definitely that potential in this set, but there is also a chance that only 1 or 2 will be sought after in a few years. Definitely a lot of big names and should be a fun rip in the short term!
I'm looking forward to a fully healthy 2025 season from Jordan Beck. His broken hand this season really limited what he could have possibly done over a full season in the bigs.
Why is Wyatt Langford‘s flagship rookie in this update set and not his rookie card in the 2024 chrome base? I’m literally betting on a lot of five on eBay right now and that’s not a flagship rookie? It’s gonna be the one in this update set? I don’t understand
Flagship is generally considered base Topps cards. His Topps Chrome rookies are also great, but Series 1, 2, and Update are usually the "flagship products" alongside Chrome. So both are good!
@@scottiebcards2354 thanks for the reply! Getting back into the hobby after 40 yrs in the junk era, just wanna make sure I’m investing correctly along side having fun
I disagree about the SP not being their “true” rookies. The cards came out, they exist. They may be rare, it doesn’t mean they aren’t their rookie card. The cards came out, so they’re the rookie.
While that’s true and they both are important, to me the update rookies will have parallels, sps, and more. I’d rather have a nice parallel of the update or a golden mirror ssp of the update then one of the series 2 sps personally. The only exception is the Jackson Holliday for the tribute.
He has over 130 innngs and 22 games started. While not a full season, Sale will most likely win the Cy Young and he only has 29 games started. I think he has a great shot at the roy and a top 5 Cy vote er will see!
Hey! His Flagship rookie was in 2024 Topps Series 2. He has a rookie debut in this set, but I am only including rookies who have their first paper flagship card in this set.
He is having a great year, but he just turned 27 and was never a top prospect so he didn't fit the criteria well. It is hard for players who debut in their late 20s to have long lasting hobby value. It can occasionally happen though!
A LOT of top prospects! That skews the scores a little bit, but it will be a good rip for value due to how many players will be collected in the short term. Thanks for watching!
Actually wait 3 to 4 years and you will get these guys for pennies on the dollars. Chasing rookies now a days is a fools game and will cost you a lot of money.
Likely but one may be the next Jeter, Judge or superstar you wish you got in on before they went nuclear, imo. It’s good to pay attention…I’ll never kick myself for taking a risk on Anthony Volpe, lol.
Yes, any pitcher can struggle with long term value. The good thing for Skenes is that he has been awesome and he is a media darling. Both of which are good for at least short term value. Thanks for watching!
Merrill over Chourio all day. Why are minor league stats even considered for scoring? At the end of the day if it doesn't translate it doesn't matter. I am looking at you Holiday.
Very nicely done Scottie B. Love the breakdown. Topps Update is one the few boxes I open this year, so looking forward to getting my hands on a Jumbo. Looking forword to the next Spitballing. Until next time....
I will be interested to see what happens with his pricing over the next few months. As of right now he is still pretty expensive. Hopefully he figures it out!
Series 2 was fun to rip, I can't wait to rip some Update! More fun than wasting $ on Chrome. Thanks for the breakdown Scottie!
I don't open much wax, but I may even buy a box or two of this product. Should be a lot of fun!
Always like your player breakdowns! Thanks for the video, Scottie!

If you want your kid to play baseball, name him Jackson.
If you live in the south that's one of about 5 names they're using.
I also say matt is a pretty common baseball player name.

I love Merrill! an absolute stud
He has really impressed me this year!
Excellent I was surprised you didn't have any Runners up
I assume this crop will end up like the others. One, maybe two of them will amount to anything.
Completely agree. It is VERY VERY rare that we get a 2011 Topps Update or a 2018 Topps Update.

2-5 already had rookie sp cards in series 2 right? So they will have rookies but not as highly sought after. 😊

What’s the price gonna be
Wyatt Langford and Holiday RC are SP's in series 2? They must've made a lot of them then. They are everywhere.
You don't consider Topps Chrome as part of the flagship? All the Jackson's and Wyatt had regular base cards and parallels
Always a great video. Thanks Scotty B!
PCA all day!
Hey if anyone can elaborate, I’m new to baseball, so a players RC only is printed if they have a full season under them or when they get called up?
Pretty sure they have to play a certain amount of MLB games to be eligible, or be active on the roster at least. I'm not 100% on that though.
