- 2024 Topps Update was released this past week. In this video the Spitballin' team breaks down the good, the bad, and the ugly about 2024 Topps Update and if it is a good set to target in 2024.
Already up to $145 and $300 on Blowout, DA, SC. Not a fan of that, but hoping my LCS hasn't pumped the prices yet.
Flagship is my jam though so I'll buy a box or two, but will probably be hammering the Hanger boxes. Usually the best product for everything but Autos, Blacks and Clears.
Reached the breaking point for me, unless I come into an inheritance. I would love to rip this but $300 for a jumbo box is absolutely insane. Current prices for past Update Jumbo boxes: 2023=$130, 2022=$250, 2021=$90, 2020=$120. In fact, I'd buy 2022 and go Witt hunting while 'saving' $50.

The yellow parallels, in hangers, could have good color match potential for Skenes, Chourio, and Merrill (And affordable)

Scott I'm with you, I really liked the Halloween parallels too.
What makes flagship fun is that it's affordable. I just hope prices don't go crazy quickly, because I'd like to open more than the hobby/blaster combo I pre-ordered from topps. I haven't really had fun opening anything this year and it would be wonderful to open something fun and low risk for the first time in a long time
Love true photos pulled a PCA true photo variation out of my first box of series 2 and as a cubs fan it was the perfect hit out of that box
I love the 35th anniversary idea of any year. Even the years I don’t like the design. It pays homage to collecting of old and it’s cool to see the modern players on a 35 year old design. It connects the now to the before
I collect the 35th Anniversary cards exclusively. Like you said, modern players on a 35 year old design, along with the vintage players on the design.
They should make a jack o’lantern that’s wearing a taco costume card…lol

The breakdowns of pack odds are great, but I am always left with one question: Are we certain that the key rookie parallels are evenly / randomly distributed amongst all formats?

I think you guys are a little too harsh on the sticker autos. The hobby has a diverse group of fans. No offense but you come down too hard on this topic and a few others. Obviously I want a hard auto over a sticker but a card with both MVPs autos on it? Yes please. But I’m coming from a fan of the hobby’s perspective and as a seller of cards.
At the current prices, it's going to be nearly impossible to not lose money on this product.
What are your guys thoughts on Topps cosmic? I like the look but it’s overpriced. I will be getting some Topps update

Of the Ohtani 50/50 cards coming out, value a side, which card would you guys want? The topps now 1/1 with the cool inscription, or the black dynasty with the mlb logo?
My personal preference is the topps now with the inscription since it will be the only action shot and it will have a cool inscription versus a mlb logo which looks like all the other mlb logo cards he will have over his career.
I can’t wait to rip some of this.

Dude 1st cards are crap, you think they print one card at a time? It’s just the one that is on top left of the sheet, it’s such a fake gimmick
The sheets aren’t what you think it’s not a sheet of one player it’s usually a sheet in card number order so the entire first sheet (example) would be cards 1-25 not just 25 copies of card 1
Topps Flagship dual autos are always stickers. Which is stupid because they are always super low numbered, 25 or less usually. You can't get them to sign those super rare cards. I pulled a Lou Brock/Bob Gibson dual auto #/5 out of 2022 flagship. You are telling me those guys weren't available to sign that card. So disappointing.
Both Gibson & Brock died in 2020, so I’m gonna assume they weren’t available to sign in 2022.
@@thekeithy4999 Well, that is a good excuse, lol. They would have been stickers even if they weren't though. Riley and Acuna were both alive and kicking and my 2022 dual /25 is a sticker as well for them.

I’m still mind blown for a flag ship product those base 1st print 1 of 1 isn’t anything creative or special about it also the HFA card should have chrome parallel.
HFA cards would be nasty in a Topps Chrome.
I’m really concerned that Fanatics drive to “grow the hobby” will be done at the expense of the true hobbyist/collector. No ethics, no quality control, no attention to detail with picking the best photos, etc. Take this high end Mercury product…they “pre sold” to all the big influencers and breakers before the EQL process even began. eBay had pages of top end hits already on sale, #/5, #/10, debut patches and duaauto redemptions…even the 1/1 was already hit. None of this was disclosed on their website, so it appeared to buyers that they still had a chance at getting those cards. False advertising…Just so corrupt at all levels…this is not sustainable.
I have a bit of a take. From analyzing the odds sheets, it's seems on a relative basis they made the low numbered parallels (mother's day, father's day July 4th, black, etc) easier to hit in the hobby products, with the higher numbered parallels relatively easier to hit within the retail products (even in relation to 2023 Update). Thus, depending on what you chase, you can target hobby or retail. I will be sticking mostly to hobby (love chasing the clears).
Also, techinically, Hader started in the Astros organization and has a Bowman 1st auto in the Astros uniform.
And I am definitely pulling a Manoah auto.
Cost wise I don't think that is true.
Even at Presale prices a Fathers Day Blue would cost you:
$13 Hanger Packs - $2,496
$88 Hobby Boxes - $2,486
$190 Jumbo Boxes - $2,698
With the jump in prices it is even less so now.
Good analysis. To be fair, I did pay slightly less on my boxes for Hobby and Jumbo since a few of my friends get together and pre-ordered a case of each, then split the cost. It ended up being closer to $80 per box of hobby and $178 per box of jumbo.
