So lucky that I found your tutorial. Now the problem is solved. Still wonder that anyone experienced this problem repeatedly ?
It seems the warranty still not completely solve the problem. That's why the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 there is a part saying the battery is from other suppliers, in-app that prevent the battery overly charge~ That makes the owner of Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 feels cheated. #iwantmymoneyback 😂

Much appreciated! send them back tree times under warranty and always gotten replacements. Now the warranty has ran out i can fix them myself. Took a few tries but got there.
@evanqashanna3447 no you can't charge it while close. You need to open it and it is very safe to use 9 volt I did it that way 9 volt red and black wire from it and did like the video said same poles. You need to reach charing of 3.5 or 3.6 of voltage then put it inside the case and it will work. Mine was dead for 1 year and suddenly saw they video and I did it and wow it working. Spend 3 mins 4 mins till the battery reach 3.5 volt at least.
@evanqashanna3447 hair dryer but put it to high hot air use it for 3 mins then carefully try to open it. After you finish fixing it put silicone the same place the glue was to seal it thanks.
This might work but not very safe. And this bug is not a truly bug man, it's kind of a protection method used for charging the lithium battery. When the voltage is too low, you need a special charging circuit to charge it very slowly to ensure that the battery is not damaged by the normal way of charging. The damage here may be dangerous because if could form short circuits in the battery or high resistance inside the battery that could cause heat strong enough to kick in a thermal runaway which means the battery will be fired or even exploded. So it makes sense to apply that kind of protection. Usually your battery voltage should not drop too low unless it is actually dead after using a lot. While the low-voltage charging protection is not a bug, I still wonder how the battery could be so easily depleted? I mean it shoud happen only if you leave the earbuds unused for at least 5 years but many cases show various periods from weeks to several months. Mine dead after nearly 2 months unused (the last case battery is about 50% which should be enough for the earbuds to live at least 6 months without being used). That's the point in the first place.
Perfect. Thanx a lot Alex. My first pair of MTW3s were replaced under warranty because of the dead L earbud. And i was strugguling with the same issue with the newer ones also. 350-400 bucks saved.
Thats Amazing. You saved my sennheiser with this video. Just use adapter with multiple voltage with below 5 volts and it works again. Marvellous. You are life saver. Thank you very much, sir! ❤
Just fixed following the exact method. I purposely bought one multimeter from Mr DIY yesterday to fix the problem. When I refer back to your video, only I realised it is exactly the same which makes it much easier as I am not really an electrical person. My left earbud was about 0.8 V and I charged using A23 12V battery.
This was the fix I needed. Thanks! Worked like a charm, though I had to charge it for about 3-5min before I got high enough volts for it to turn back on when put together. 0.7/0.9vDC on my buds though. Were in storage for about 8 months.
Fixed my issue. Took a few goes to yo get Battery volt up( no meter) keep trying!!! Still not impressed with how often a premium product having such a common problem.
Thanks a lot @alex V . Sorry I don't know you name. The steps worked wonders. It fixed my headset. Right one had gone dead and this was a replacement set that Sennheiser had sent me against the flawed momentum 1 that I had bought BIG BIG THANKS! Keep making such helpful videos.
Mine got fixed today by using this tutorial. Just make sure the volt of the earbuds must be atleast 3.4+ so it can continue to work in the charging case. If its only 3.3 below it will just show red light one flash. No blue and green. So glad this tutorial existed
This tutorial is really the way to fix this common issue. It’s awesome, simple, but pretty unknown. Hopefully some more people will try and be fine with it :)
Thanks to your video I solved it, the right earphone was no longer charging, unlike the video I improvised with a cable to charge the Xiaomi smartband, the contacts matched those of the earphone battery so I tried, the first test failed by heating the battery but it continued not to charge and work. On the second attempt I noticed some small shocks and I feared I had reversed the polarity so I tried again by reversing the side and after this attempt the earphone started charging correctly again, thank you very much, you were a great help 😉💪🙏👏❤
It worked for me and now my earbuds are working again!!! Thank you very much for this!!! The earbud batteries are not charging up to 100%, they remain around 80% to 70%, but I guess this is another problem. Such a shame that this phones got this huge problem! I enjoy their sound, but this unreliability made me switch to Airpods Pro 2.
Great stuff! This saved my second pair (which had been already a warranty replacement for the same reason). Unbelievable what the engineers did... Just forget to put them in the charger for some time and they die!!! Shame on Sennheiser for that, which is particularly sad because they sound really great.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. My earbud is now charging again. I just have the problem now, that the casing opens too easily at the seam now. Any type of glue you can recommend to reseal it? Quick tip for anyone attempting this themselves: If you don't have a "fancy" battery case like in the video or another 4.5V - 5V power source, you can just put the batteries in series (positive pole on negative) and tape them together. This should additively up the voltage.
@@mattolika I used the wires of my multimeter. Although one end of these cables had recessed contacts. I just used some aluminum foil to get in there and connect up these to the battery poles. I used the pointy contacts for probing on the headphones.
@@krzyzak3city Without any equipment, No. I had to go to my university's lab to use the multimeter and power supply there. Sadly I didn't manage to fix it and had to claim warranty (my 3rd time for this shitty earbud). Luckily, this time they decided to give MTW4 as a replacement.
It works , thanx, left was all dead and ad 10% but made no connection , no lights , but now it turns on again and make connection and play sounds , for now it only charge to 80% but I let it on the power for a while to see if it goes up till 100
While this fix worked for my MTW3, the earbud still didn't hold a charge for long and the issue came back. I purchased a set of Varta CP1254-A4 70mAh Batteries from Ebay and replaced the failing battery in one earbud. It's not that hard, just de-solder the two contacts and carefully open the board on top. You might need to remove some black sticky reside covering the positive (+) connector and a barcode sticker on side of the battery. Be careful with the tiny ribbon cable underneath. Also, transfer the two tiny black rubber pads on the top and bottom of the old battery to the new one.
After 2 years, my left earbud was "dead", no LED light, no connection. I tried unpairing and factory reset (see the TW3 manual for the method). I had put on a larger rubber ring, and maybe didn't get it set into the charging case correctly? I pushed down on the two power contacts in the case, wiped the bud power connections and the case connections with a paper towel, and set the earbuds back in the case, plugged in USB overnight. They both work now!
Revisiting to thank you again, needed to redo the operation these days. Man, these things are crap. Are there any battery replacements (or upgrades) for these things?

man, you made my day. I tried it with my Momentum TW 3 and it is working like a charm. I didn't have a setup to connect 3*1.5V batteries serial way. I used my power bank to do it which I was sure about it produces 5V and 4A. After applying the fix, I also want to say something for Sennheiser. It is totally a bullshit! I've heard few things more ridiculous! So far, I was calling myself as an engineer. it is my profession. but I'm not anymore from today on if the system designer of that product have been hired with a fuck'n engineer title!
I didn’t expect to have to do this to a pair of earbuds costing nearly £300 after only 13 months, but it worked a treat, thank you. What glue would you recommend for holding the case together afterwards?
Alex thank you very much. I sent it to warranty when it happened first time and it took 2 months to send a new pair of them. But it happened after 4 -5 months later again. So I tried your solution and BANG it worked!. Only issue is it repeats once a week and have to do it again :(
Like a lot of other guys... You helped me to save my Sennheiser MTW3. 🙂 Many thanks 👍 For 240€ I was expecting a better battery managment ! 😕 (at the opening, some plastics nipples "cracked"...let see if they don't open without doing anything when I will use them, Did you glue them or something when you repairs yours ? 😉 )
This worked for me. I used a 9v and juiced my earbud for a minute which got me just over 3v on the earbud. That was enough to get it to charge in the case. I got the earbud housing open just by gently prying with my thumbnail. Awesome video. Thank you.
Great video, thank you! I had the same issues and fixed the problem exactly as instructed. However, I think I might have put too much "heat" when dissembling, because now the upper part of the casing is going out very easy. Any suggestions how to fix it - should I use instant glue or is there another way?!
To all those bagging Sennheiser, did you read the full instructions? It’s right there at the bottom of page 1 under precautions. Quote, “When not using the product/rechargeable batteries for extended periods of time, charge them regularly, about every three months. All batteries like to be stored fully charged and recharged after 3-6 months depending on type. Would you expect your car to start if stored without some sort of battery charge for a year? Thank you for this! I was doubting that I can do this myself but it WORKED! I’m now having slight trouble in holding the earpiece tightly with the case. Anyways, just wanted to say Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this. I just tried it on a pair of white TW3s and it worked :-) I did use a small amount of heat from a heat gun to help open the case. The left bud was at 1.2V. RC helicopter controller had 4 AAs so I tapped +ve and -ve from 3 of them to give 4.5V. Waiting for the left bud to complete charge in the case (it's gone from 30% to 40% which sounds promising...). Planning to use a small amount of impact adhesive on case reassembly, but not too much in case I have to do this again!
Can fix buds without open?and try to hit the pins in the earbud with 3 AAA batteries?
@@tosejancevski8680 no ,inside is charging controller and it refuse to charge below "safe voltage". You must open it to give a voltage kick directly to the battery and also best option is to replace battery.
Finaly fixed these 🎉😊 Thank you. You can do the same with a 9V as well just be sure to not hold the connection to long at a time. Works well if u hold for 10s at a time for a total of around a minute. 🎉 Love how these sound so really happy Iw got them going again ✨🤙🏼
I had a dead left twr3 earbud not charging. After following the instructions from this/your video it works like a charm. You are my hero of the day. Thank you!
Carried out this fix on my left MTW3 which wasn't showing any signs of life. I didn't have any sort of AA, AAA battery options to hand, so used my portable USB charge pack (which was showing as outputting 5V) for 1 minute. I cut one end off a USB cable and used the red and black cables within, and then plugged the other into my battery pack. Worked perfectly thank you!
Ohh! A powerbank you mean? Because this would be the answer i need
Yea a small powerbank was what I used, seemed to do the trick
Thanks for this! You're a life saver. I'm frustrated and about to bin it as my warranty has expired. It is my second earbuds the same issue on the first one, claimed warranty.
A thousand thanks from THAILAND. Since October’22, It’s my 4th pair. The first 2 pair were returned because of sharp noise from the R side. The 3rd one because of R side didn’t wake up anymore after 3 months. This is the last one as it has been out of warranty period and it got problem same as the third one.
@@alexv3311. I’ve seen several reviews of MTW4. It really looks similar to our MTW3. The difference seems to be only color of the ear buds and color of logo on the charging case. They make me think about it’s just the remanufacture of returned MTW3 with new battery to take our money again. 😢😢
@@alexv3311 I'm facing the same issue with MTW4, left earbud dead, will it work?
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 100% fixed !!! Left side stopped working after just three months of use!! I was going to throw it in the trash because Sennheiser's technical support in Brazil is terrible!! I bought the left side on EBAY for $80 (include postal service ) but when it gets here, I'll have to pay another US$80 ( Brazilian extortion tax...!!! ) US$160 for left side only. I should have tried your repair before buying the left side!! It will be kept in backup 🙂
Hallo @OctavioPessoa2009, I'm also from Brazil and I'm facing the same issue as you faced.
Are you from São Paulo Capital? If yes, have you tried to use the Technical Support from here? I'm having the same issue for the second time and I really want to test this solution from Alex V. I'm just not so sure if the warranty is already expired, I need to check with them, but seems to be impossible, due to the fact that they don't even hang up the phone and the e-mail seems to be wrong :(
Did you use 3 Batteries AAA in parallel as in the video? Was it easy to do?
Thanks in advance :D
Hello ! I'm from Rio , and yes, its IMPOSSIBLE to contact technical support, they don't respond email and phone I give up! If you bought your tws outside Brazil ( my case) there is only a 3 month warranty. If
you bought here, (with Sennheiser Brasil) It has a two-year warranty...... but its impossible contact Brazilian tech sup! I use 4 AAA and its very easy !!! Just follow the video 🙂 @@AndrewAoyague
Hello :-) I live in Rio. It's impossible to contact Sennheiser support Brazil, no one answers the phone or responds to email., If you purchased from Sennheiser Brazil, you have a 2-year warranty, otherwise, only 3 months. About video repair, its super easy !! i use 4 AAA batteries in parallel just follow the video 🙂@@AndrewAoyague
@@OctavioPessoa2009 really nice to know it. Did you take around 5V, or less than that? Or even high? I'm a little bit afraid to use the wrong value for the power supply tension and then loose my phone, even thought it's not working at the moment :(
Was it easy to open it?
@@AndrewAoyague Charge between 4.5 and 5v,. To open, you won't be able to do so without first heating the edges. use a hairdryer for about 3 minutes to soften the glue and for close , you won't need glue :-)
You are a legend. Fixed it with your hack, was worried since I didn't even have the warranty and I had bought them literally 4 months ago. Would advise people not to buy this.
Thanks a ton.. It really did solve the issue. I really like the headphones but was about to throw them .. Was really dishearted when the sennheiser team did not even respond. Thank you for putting this on.
you're a godsend. I really was not looking forward to having to go through the warranty replacement process... again 😂
despite its negatives the internet is great because of folks like you who share their knowledge purely to help others.
You saved me returning mine to sennheiser with this video. Thank you very much, sir!
Much appreciated! send them back tree times under warranty and always gotten replacements. Now the warranty has ran out i can fix them myself. Took a few tries but got there.
Appreciate it bro used 9 volt battery to charge the 2 buds after one year of not using now it’s back to life big thanks for you 🎉
Is it safe to use 9 volt? I just bought one used and the right one is not working.
Can I also charge it without opening it?
@evanqashanna3447 no you can't charge it while close. You need to open it and it is very safe to use 9 volt I did it that way 9 volt red and black wire from it and did like the video said same poles. You need to reach charing of 3.5 or 3.6 of voltage then put it inside the case and it will work. Mine was dead for 1 year and suddenly saw they video and I did it and wow it working. Spend 3 mins 4 mins till the battery reach 3.5 volt at least.
@@alidaalah thx for the fast reply! Will definitely try this.
Just one more question how did you open it?
What did u use to heat it?
Thx again
@evanqashanna3447 hair dryer but put it to high hot air use it for 3 mins then carefully try to open it. After you finish fixing it put silicone the same place the glue was to seal it thanks.
Worked a treat. Thanks for the time to post this.
Thanks alot. Worked! It still had 0.88 V. 10 seconds on the laboratory power supply revived it after 3 months.
Perfect. Thanx a lot Alex. My first pair of MTW3s were replaced under warranty because of the dead L earbud. And i was strugguling with the same issue with the newer ones also. 350-400 bucks saved.
I had the same issue for weeks, and this video actually helps! Mine works perfectly now. but im using 2 aa battery with copper wires instead
Thats Amazing. You saved my sennheiser with this video. Just use adapter with multiple voltage with below 5 volts and it works again. Marvellous. You are life saver. Thank you very much, sir! ❤
Respect, I luv music and I couldn't let go of them. Did the DIY and now working. Thx ✊🏽
Can we just do the charging (+ to +, - to -) to the points without removing the earbud casing?
Thank you so much !!! Now my earbud are working again ... Salute from Malaysia 👏👏👏
Awesome 👍👍 From Sabah 😄
hi, nak tanya, pakai apa yang cable tu, sebab tak jumpa nak beli?
From kl malaysia too. Anyone kind to help to fix mine?
Just fixed following the exact method. I purposely bought one multimeter from Mr DIY yesterday to fix the problem. When I refer back to your video, only I realised it is exactly the same which makes it much easier as I am not really an electrical person. My left earbud was about 0.8 V and I charged using A23 12V battery.
Thank you very much Alex. Thanks to you, I was spared the expense.
This was the fix I needed. Thanks! Worked like a charm, though I had to charge it for about 3-5min before I got high enough volts for it to turn back on when put together. 0.7/0.9vDC on my buds though. Were in storage for about 8 months.
Thanks SO MUCH Alex!!! Ive Just brought my left earbud back to life thaks to your instructions😊
this worked like a charm..thanks so much champ!!!!
this is a major flaw on Sennheiser part
thanks! Used 5v from a cut USB cord and it works again!
This worked , thank you! Used AA batteries. Sennheiser needs to get their quality under control. My mw2s did the same thing
Great work👍 Agreed, they should change us new SMTW4 indeed 🤔

nice, just revived my right earbud 🔋thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot @alex V . Sorry I don't know you name. The steps worked wonders. It fixed my headset. Right one had gone dead and this was a replacement set that Sennheiser had sent me against the flawed momentum 1 that I had bought
BIG BIG THANKS! Keep making such helpful videos.
I like it, thank you. I will have to try this. It looks very promising.
I really appreciate you putting this video together.
Mine got fixed today by using this tutorial. Just make sure the volt of the earbuds must be atleast 3.4+ so it can continue to work in the charging case. If its only 3.3 below it will just show red light one flash. No blue and green. So glad this tutorial existed
@@martinlouis4492 awesome, thanks for letting me know. I'll post my results when I get time to do this. 🙏
This tutorial is really the way to fix this common issue. It’s awesome, simple, but pretty unknown. Hopefully some more people will try and be fine with it :)
Thank you for this fantastic instructional video! Saved me a trip to the service center. You're awesome!!!
You're awesome too 👍👍
Awesome. Used a 9v battery instead. Easier to charge with alligator clips too.
Great job bro. But i’d rather return mine (both not working) and claim warranty. Thanks!
Are you based in the US? How long does it take for them to fix it and ship it back?
Thanks to your video I solved it, the right earphone was no longer charging, unlike the video I improvised with a cable to charge the Xiaomi smartband, the contacts matched those of the earphone battery so I tried, the first test failed by heating the battery but it continued not to charge and work. On the second attempt I noticed some small shocks and I feared I had reversed the polarity so I tried again by reversing the side and after this attempt the earphone started charging correctly again, thank you very much, you were a great help 😉💪🙏👏❤
This video is amazing. Thanks you so much for making this video. Eventually my momentum 3 wake up again ❤
Man you just saved me so much money, it really works, many thanks!
Welcome 😁
What wires did u use to touch the poles to the earphones? 🙏
@@mattolika I used the wires of my multimeter. Although one end of these cables had recessed contacts. I just used some aluminum foil to get in there and connect up these to the battery poles. I used the pointy contacts for probing on the headphones.
Does anybody know which hole is positive/negative? I want to try without taking it apart first.
Did you manage that to recognise poles?
@@krzyzak3city Without any equipment, No.
I had to go to my university's lab to use the multimeter and power supply there. Sadly I didn't manage to fix it and had to claim warranty (my 3rd time for this shitty earbud). Luckily, this time they decided to give MTW4 as a replacement.
Thank you very much for this fix! I was able to wake 1 of the 2 earbuds, but the 2nd one stays at 3.5 volts and won’t start charging.

It works , thanx, left was all dead and ad 10% but made no connection , no lights , but now it turns on again and make connection and play sounds , for now it only charge to 80% but I let it on the power for a while to see if it goes up till 100
Awesome 👍
While this fix worked for my MTW3, the earbud still didn't hold a charge for long and the issue came back. I purchased a set of Varta CP1254-A4 70mAh Batteries from Ebay and replaced the failing battery in one earbud. It's not that hard, just de-solder the two contacts and carefully open the board on top. You might need to remove some black sticky reside covering the positive (+) connector and a barcode sticker on side of the battery. Be careful with the tiny ribbon cable underneath. Also, transfer the two tiny black rubber pads on the top and bottom of the old battery to the new one.
what a piece of junk these things are. left em on a shelf for a year and they dont even turn on anymore, but they show as charging on the case.
Yea same thing thats happening with mine
Mine same but only for a few days
Same thing.....
Same
Same
After 2 years, my left earbud was "dead", no LED light, no connection.
Man, this was a life saver! Thank U!

man, you made my day. I tried it with my Momentum TW 3 and it is working like a charm. I didn't have a setup to connect 3*1.5V batteries serial way. I used my power bank to do it which I was sure about it produces 5V and 4A.

🙂 Many thanks 👍
For 240€ I was expecting a better battery managment ! 😕
(at the opening, some plastics nipples "cracked"...let see if they don't open without doing anything when I will use them,
Did you glue them or something when you repairs yours ?
Is this permanent fix or only for next discharge? How long this fix can last . . . ?

What did you buy to fix them? Is it any battery jump starter. Also where would you buy a case where you just plug in 3 triple A batteries
