you pay 300$ for earphones and you have do this? Sennheiser goes to trash can what a junk German Nazi as holes :-)))))
Thank you very much for this fix! I was able to wake 1 of the 2 earbuds, but the 2nd one stays at 3.5 volts and won’t start charging.
This is wonderful! Thanks very much!
Thanks for this! You're a life saver. I'm frustrated and about to bin it as my warranty has expired. It is my second earbuds the same issue on the first one, claimed warranty.
Like a lot of other guys... You helped me to save my Sennheiser MTW3. 🙂 Many thanks 👍 For 240€ I was expecting a better battery managment ! 😕 (at the opening, some plastics nipples "cracked"...let see if they don't open without doing anything when I will use them, Did you glue them or something when you repairs yours ? 😉 )
Shake 😂
Thanks a lot!!!

To all those bagging Sennheiser, did you read the full instructions? It’s right there at the bottom of page 1 under precautions. Quote, “When not using the product/rechargeable batteries for extended periods of time, charge them regularly, about every three months. All batteries like to be stored fully charged and recharged after 3-6 months depending on type. Would you expect your car to start if stored without some sort of battery charge for a year? What’s cool about this video is that it revives an otherwise dead earbud without the need to mess with a warranty.
@@johnpfeffer3933 Good English writing.
@@johnpfeffer3933 3-6 months not using the earbuds? It means the earbuds is just the 'thing' that left behind, or useless.
Warranty? I thought your English is good. Please read what people comments below.
This might work but not very safe. And this bug is not a truly bug man, it's kind of a protection method used for charging the lithium battery. When the voltage is too low, you need a special charging circuit to charge it very slowly to ensure that the battery is not damaged by the normal way of charging. The damage here may be dangerous because if could form short circuits in the battery or high resistance inside the battery that could cause heat strong enough to kick in a thermal runaway which means the battery will be fired or even exploded. So it makes sense to apply that kind of protection. Usually your battery voltage should not drop too low unless it is actually dead after using a lot. While the low-voltage charging protection is not a bug, I still wonder how the battery could be so easily depleted? I mean it shoud happen only if you leave the earbuds unused for at least 5 years but many cases show various periods from weeks to several months. Mine dead after nearly 2 months unused (the last case battery is about 50% which should be enough for the earbuds to live at least 6 months without being used). That's the point in the first place.
I have used Sennheiser headphones all my life and was very disappointed with the TW3. I can't repair it myself.
While this fix worked for my MTW3, the earbud still didn't hold a charge for long and the issue came back. I purchased a set of Varta CP1254-A4 70mAh Batteries from Ebay and replaced the failing battery in one earbud. It's not that hard, just de-solder the two contacts and carefully open the board on top. You might need to remove some black sticky reside covering the positive (+) connector and a barcode sticker on side of the battery. Be careful with the tiny ribbon cable underneath. Also, transfer the two tiny black rubber pads on the top and bottom of the old battery to the new one.
Excellent thanks so mucho bro, it works very well for me 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Help! Tried this method and was able to reach 2 volts but it still wouldn’t turn on
I had the same issue for weeks, and this video actually helps! Mine works perfectly now. but im using 2 aa battery with copper wires instead
Respect, I luv music and I couldn't let go of them. Did the DIY and now working. Thx ✊🏽
Ugh i have to do this now to my right one, I use and charge them all the time. This sucks
Thanks alot. Worked! It still had 0.88 V. 10 seconds on the laboratory power supply revived it after 3 months.
nice, just revived my right earbud 🔋thanks a lot!
consegui recuperar o meu mas o lado esquerdo não tem som
amigo, como vc conseguiu fazer? onde acho um case de pilha desse?
@@gustavogarcia7 eu fiz no meu usando as pilhas do controle remoto
Can we just do the charging (+ to +, - to -) to the points without removing the earbud casing?
I also had the same issue, was out of warranty (2,5 years old) and was lucky enough to find this video via Reddit. I was sceptical, because I do not have much of experience in dealing with those sensitive electronic stuff. I did not have a multimeter, or battery case either. I just taped 3x1,5V AA batteries together in a row. Also taped simple copper cables to both ends and connected + with + pole of the earphone battery and - with the - pole of the earphone battery (little hint for everyone wondering: In the video you will see which one is which one by the color of the cables. Red is always plus and black is always minus). Earphone battery started to heat up quickly, so I gave it a break after like 30sec to cool down and then tried another 30 sec. Afterwards reassembled and put the earphone back in the case for a few seconds. Put it out again. AND IT WORKED. Thank you so much!
Sennheiser shame on you! Three times my earbuds went bad..same issue..and guess what..Sennheiser Momentum 4’s earbuds do the same thing! Crash in the left bud. Sad! I ask for some momentum headphones instead them worthless earbuds! Same tired issue. Sennheiser is a lazy company!
Has anyone tried to charge it without taking apart the internals? Just using the multimeter and battery tray to charge externally on the probes.
it's working .thanks for your idea
I fixed my MTW 3. My problem was finding a power source. I had one staring at me right in the face. An old battery for a UPS backup case. It had 8 volts on it. I used it to charge my right earbud which stopped working a few days ago. I jump charged it for about 2 minutes. Reassembled it, and put it back in the case. Started charging immediately. After 5 minutes I wanted to check to see if any lights were blinking. The red light was blinking. That was the 1st sign of life. Put it back in the charger and charged it some more. Decided to pair both buds up and test for sound. Paired up with no problem. Connected it to the Smart Control app. Smart Control app showed only 20% charge for the bud I fixed. Before I had only 10% charge, so Im making progress. BTW on the sound test, the buds sounded great, like they were new. Thanks so much for this video. Too bad I didnt try this sooner. Yesterday I ordered a pair of MTW 4 on Amazon.
How can i make the AAA batteries circuit??
Happened again to me after 2 fucking uses with the 2nd pair. Absolutely trash, they should refund everyone. What'd the point of getting 3rd one, it will do the same. Never again
How to make sure they dont go below voltage again??
This problem is RECURRING AFTER A WEEK OR TWO YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN I HAVE the tw2 with same problem GOODBYE SENHEISSER IM VERY DISAPPOINTED
Could somebody list down the tool in this video? I dont know nothing about electricity. Thank
Very thanks.
Same to me - left fully dead. Returned. Very disappointed with Sennheiser
Carried out this fix on my left MTW3 which wasn't showing any signs of life. I didn't have any sort of AA, AAA battery options to hand, so used my portable USB charge pack (which was showing as outputting 5V) for 1 minute. I cut one end off a USB cable and used the red and black cables within, and then plugged the other into my battery pack. Worked perfectly thank you!
Ohh! A powerbank you mean? Because this would be the answer i need
Yea a small powerbank was what I used, seemed to do the trick
For as much as i paid for these im not disassembling them and rebuilding them again. Fk all of that. I just know better now and will never buy sennheiser again
Thanks a ton.. It really did solve the issue. I really like the headphones but was about to throw them .. Was really dishearted when the sennheiser team did not even respond. Thank you for putting this on.
I was in the same position as many people here and this also worked for me! I'm not at all handy when it comes to electrical/DIY things, but I picked up a multimeter at the local hardware store and was able to work through the easy steps from this video. In case helpful for others, I did not have a heat gun and so simply used a hairdryer on low heat. I also didn't have a tray for batteries and so simply used the remote control for my TV to charge the earbud up from ~ 0.9V to just over 3.0V. It took a few minutes of charging in the case (with the case plugged in) for it to regain charge, but it's now working great. Thanks! Excellent video.
How close to the hairdryer? And how much time?
@@diplodocus3 I had the hairdryer on the lowest heat setting and holding it 2-3 cm away from the earbud. I applied heat for 15-20 seconds. You don't want to heat the earbud too much, so try after this much time. If it doesn't start to open up, give it another 20 seconds or so.
@@gompthis13 Thanks! Finally fixed the left bud today! Got a hint from iFixit's videos to put pressure on the bud in a vice (i did it with a plyer) and pry open. But a new surprise for me: Right bud audio has started acting up 🤡
This fix worked successfully for me. However, three weeks after I asked for help from Sennheiser they came back with this: • Leave the earbuds in the charging case for at least 30 minutes. • If the battery is deeply discharged/the LEDs do not respond after half an hour, put the earbud in the case for 10 seconds, take it out for 5 seconds and repeat the process 10 times to reach the low charge threshold to overcome. It's too late for me to try the approach of repeatedly putting the earbud in the case for 10 seconds but it might save someone else from the hassle of dismantling their earbud.
I hope this works cuz I'm well past 10 times now, and the fact that the case gives out orange pulses makes me hopeful
Not working :(
So this is a real thing cause I have the same exact problem with mine and it's only been a few months
Thank you so much!
Sonido digital yours😮
thanks man. i couldn't get a new pair because i could not find my invoice :( i made already everything clear to get a new pair from sennheiser but yeah... sad idiot xD so i tried your nice hack here and it worked. i could finally load a firmware update and now i have a nice new pair of ear buds.
I hope you see my comment. This worked for my R earbud, but it lost touche control and now I can't pair my headphones. Please help 🙏
Gentleman, It's my pleasure to see you in the Sennheiser Scamming Club! We've found that 6 Sennheiser Engineers dislike this vid.
I was on the verge of throwing my earphones away, but thanks to you, I don’t have to anymore! As a Sennheiser-loving Japanese person, I was really fed up with these earphones, so your help was truly appreciated. With love from Japan.
this worked like a charm..thanks so much champ!!!! this is a major flaw on Sennheiser part
Is this permanent fix or only for next discharge? How long this fix can last . . . ?
Pff on a tous jetté de l'argent par la fenêtre... 😞😞😞
What did you buy to fix them? Is it any battery jump starter. Also where would you buy a case where you just plug in 3 triple A batteries
