@@grumpyoldguyreacts Portuguese is the 5th language most spoken in the world and comes from Latin. This song is a version of the Fado sang by Amalia Rodrigues which was the greatest performer of this kind of music.
This song is about the struggle of the men who went to the sea and their women who were always waiting for them, praying they didn't die. It is a very sad song, as normally Fado songs are. Take care and thanks for reviewing it.

This song is translated as "Song of the sea" and it's about the loss of loved ones at sea. Portugal is located on the western coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the sea is very important for their culture. But Portuguese coast is known as one of (if not the most) violent and took so many lives along History. This song is a lament by the human soul.

The title translates as Song of the Sea and Dulce sings it perfectly with her beautiful voice. I first heard in 1969 when I turned 16 but it was a different female singer. The year had great things and evil things from the Manson family. Take care my friend.
Yes she was really great. 69 was great with Woodstock and some great music but like you said it had some bad also. Manson's and Altamont with the Stones. How did you know what that song meant? Thanks my great friend and stay safe.
@@grumpyoldguyreacts I learned thru my sister who was an RNA in Toronto, she boarded at a Portugese family close to the hospital she worked at. It was the fathers favorite song and he translated it for me in 1969 the same year as your worthless facts, weird but true.

If you want to know more about portuguese music (fado) listen to Mariza, Ana Moura, Carminho... and.. the diva (already left us) Amalia Rodrigues. And try Fado de Coimbra too.. its diferent.. its about a magic city, that is Coimbra... And... let me teach you a little.. Portugal its a Country since 1143... yea.... its old.. Portuguese its the 5th most spoken language in the world... Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guine, Timor, Cape Verde, etc... speaks portuguese :) We are the first in the discovery era... 1500´s and we divided the world in 2 with de spain!!

Sorry, but not knowing that the Portuguese language exists is showing ignorance, after all, we are talking about the 5th or 6th most spoken language in the world
I am ignorant at a lot of things. I'm learning about music and the artists and even their countries. English is the only language I know and I don't speak that well either. I'm trying to learn. Thanks for watching and your comment.
If you're interested I just recorded Dulce again and Mariza. They will be up the week after this one. One more thing about my ignorance. My education only went to the 12 th grade and I should not have graduated because I did almost no work. That's no excuse for my stupidity. Take care my friend.

Portugal is Portugal nothing to do with spain. Lisbon the capital of Portugal is older than Rome and Portugal is one of the world's oldest nation-states, with over 800 years of history and surely Portugal is the oldest country in Europe. It has had the same defined borders since 1139. It's no surprise that Portuguese is the official language of 9 countries with over 236 million people speaking it around the world.
