I usually agree with Zuby's take, but there are some issues that he seems to be missing here. It is not that men are afraid of rejection, it is that they are quite well aware of what could happen to their lives if the women they approach do not like them. And the people who keep quiet at work do so because that is their only possile source of revenue. It is a bit disingenous to state the probability of a false allegation is low. If he were to be presented with a field of apple trees where 50% are not good for your health and 10% are actual poisons, especially as a man who has plenty of other food at home, would he choose to go in there and eat or would he return home?
Yea especially given how many women you have to approach to get a number, numbers to get a date etc. Being bold with opinions at work usually rarely changes much but your ability to pay bills. Better to pick your battles and invest your energy in what has a chance of positive results (I.E. yourself and inner circle).
Aren’t you pathologizing this by constantly making sure to describe this brotherly love as masculine. Isn’t it masculine already by definition. I’m a gay man and have formed the best platonic friendships with other men through shared experiences, alienation and exile by other men, mainly “heterosexual/homophobic men” in my life because of this kind of black and white thinking about masculinity. It becomes too compulsory and dogmatic. Why do women get to change what femininity means and men do not? As a gay man I do not understand why I should be forced to “act” like a “man” in the traditional sense and be a protector when we are not even given respect or considered as equal men. Why should I sign that social contract?
Congratulations to Zuby on the engagement 🎉
