      Bring a sabiki rig or a cat net because there is usually some bait around the pilings. Also, make sure to check the tides and plan to go when the water is moving

      Yes sir. An overnighter on the south side pier back in 1994 (were you even born then, lol?) Side by side with a buddy of mine, he caught gorgeous snappers all night long and all I got was a bunch of catfish! Same set up, same bait, same EVERYTHING. He won. I lost.

      I’ve caught countless Spanish at the south side . Some snappers . Some Jacks . Almost hooked a 30+ in snook closer to the pay station on a paddletail right when I seen him chasing it he spooked for some reason . One of my most recent cool catches on the south side pier was a 8+ inch squid on a Gotcha lure . It was insanely cool to catch something like that on a Gotcha lure lol

    Back in the 70s we'd make our own sabiki rigs. Didn't have the name "sabiki." Just called em "minnow jigs." Get a box of #14 gold hooks, some 12 lb test, barrel swivel up top, snap swivel on the bottom, viola! 15 minutes later - you're done. Same way we made our own pompano rigs. And we walked 20 miles to school. Uphill. Both ways. In the snow. All year. In Ft. Lauderdale. Now get off my yard. 😁🤩🤣 Srsly, we did have to make our own rigs. 👍

      @@kateskrmetta2022 Uh... missing the point. 50 years ago we didn't have manufactured/prepacked rigs for $1.99 outta WalMart. Didn't have WalMart. Made em yourself or went without. See - the past sucked balls. That's why I went on about all that "walking 20 miles to school uphill in the snow both ways etc." I was making fun of all my fellow old idiots who somehow think that crap was better. I think things are waaaaay better now. Technology is freaking awesome. I wish we had all the stuff we have now back then.

    Used to shark fish from it not long after it opened. We'd catch rays and then use chunks of them for our shark bait. Caught tons of different fish from that platform. Sure miss my salt water fishing days, that's why I watch your vids. Land locked in KS now.

    I fish the skyway alot and I need some tips. Also was the red tide bad at all🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥♥️🔥

    • @gladiatorfishing3174
      @gladiatorfishing3174 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The red tide is bad right now but with how aggressive the snapper and grouper are you can get on them pretty good with the right setup. Light tackle is the key though. Because of how many fish have been killed off by red tide it really makes fishing hard so you have to fool them. A basic Carolina rig with 2-3 feet of 12lb-15lb leader, egg sinker depending on the current speed and a 1/0 circle hook is my go to. Loosen your drag and hold on cause snapper are going to take off!! Tight lines 🤙🏾🤙🏾
