What is your specific struggle that you'd like to see me talk about on this channel or at Location Rebel?

Biggest struggle would be starting out as a newbie writer.

I started my journey as a freelance writer, I bought a book called Everybody Writes by Ann Handley, do you know this one?

      I sooo needed this today.
Let's talk about the voices. You know, the ones inside your head.
      The ones that say:
*"What if you're not as good at this as you think?"
*"What if they don't answer your pitches and you keep being broke af?"
*"What if they say yes? How will you fullfill their expectations?
*What will you do if you can't handle the workload?"
*"What if you end up ruining your reputation as a freelance writer before you even had one?"
*But you know you're unemployed. You need this to work. You're on debt. Your family is struggling. You have to try. No, you can't try. You have to do this. Everyone's counting on you. No pressure.
      * (Go to top and begin again.)

Sometimes you need escape velocity. Thrust to propel you against the drag of entropy.
Videos like this one and the last several specifically have helped with that. Thanks for doing these Sean.
I watched one 18 months ago, bought a one way to Thailand for $450, and four months later I'm a published writer riding around Bali on a dirtbike having the time of my life.
Maybe I got lucky, but whenever family and friends open up and say that they wish they could do it, I always say "You can."
Because in my experience, you can. It's not rocket science, it's the slight edge.
15 minutes every day for a year is 90 hours.
Listening to a good podcast whenever you can adds up.
There comes a time where you cannot afford to learn anymore.
You must do. The rubber must meet the road.
It will seem impossible to know where you're going because it is.
It's like driving a car at night. No biggie.
You can see the road that's relevant to your current situation.
Would you even want to see more road than that?
If you do, you're like me. So get a map.
    Plot your course.
Then build your vehicle, get in, and drive.

It's 100% a journey, and work to make even just a little bit of progress every single day. Even if it doesnt feel like much, developing that consistency will pay off over the coming months!

Great ramble Sean. Sometimes we don't need strategies and tactics(although they're key to success) we just need to hear what's real, and that everyone has struggles. And what works to keep going when we have struggles and hit roadblocks.

Sean, I want to thank you for videos like this. I started my blog this past November. I don't have a specific niche for this one other than trying to inspire people by sharing my personal experience dealing with disability and everything that goes with it. I just got an email from Amazon with the warning of being removed because nobody is clicking on my affiliate links. But videos like this make me think I can do it. Thank you again.

Love this post Sea Nogle ; ) It was really great to start my day with this boost to fight the doubt that sits deep. You are right, it can take a single negative comment to derail us. I would love to see these little positive nuggets dropped every so often - they really are motivating. My derailment is a super busy job that keeps me from building consistency on working the blog. Everytime I get back to the blog I feel like I have to reteach myself half of what I already learned. It isn't one step forward and two steps back, but it definitely is two steps forward and at least one step back. I'm working on an "edible bites" plan to restart and move forward (again). Thanks for a great video!

What makes bad comments even worse is that one negative comment will dominate over a dozen good ones.
"Most people will choose unhappiness over uncertainty", I take it you too read The 4-Hour Work Week? :D
Thanks for the motivation, this was a nice change from the usual videos.

This thing "that I can do it" haunting me always for a long time and I have found a strategic roadmap to make it possible after a research for the last 3 years.
Nevertheless, it is very difficult to make it happen with a day job. On the contrary, I can't afford another means for a living till my freelance writing projects come into fruition. But your absolutely mesmerising and insightful episodes are really magical. Thanks a lot for this invaluable post.
P.S. Sorry for this long comment.

One negative comment is enough to destroy all hope and confidence...
But there's some magic in every online mentors' "You can do it..."

    Thanks for Inspiring and teaching...
    it really works.

I want to be a freelance writer but I live in South Africa, does it matter? Will businesses from other countries accept me if I don't live there? How do I find businesses to pitch to in other countries?

    • @LocationRebel
      @LocationRebel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Generally it doesn't matter. Any of the stuff I talk about in this video can be applied no matter where you are. th-cam.com/video/heGUDlWMNgQ/w-d-xo.html

The beauty of selling your words is that you can show and tell simultaneously.
And I bet you could find businesses that prefer to hire South African writers!
I just found a great opportunity in my hometown. Try it out!

Hi, and thanks for all of your great videos. I would love to see a video or two about how to tap into the copywriting business as a freelancer. I have 30 years of experience as a salesperson and a sales manager, and I know how to wright, in Norwegian at least. The challenge is how to start. How to get the foot in the door, if not literally.
