I'm an artist and writer at heart, and didn't go to college for it for personal reasons back in the day. Now, I've gotten a taste for writing business Bios/About us pages/marketing brochures for a couple friends, and I'm loving it!!! Please dear God, let me make this happen!!! I cannot stand working for lawyers another day...
I'm in a similar boat where I'm trapped doing something soul-crushing and would rather be writing. I hope your business is growing and you're still enjoying it!
Thank you so much for this video, I sent out emails and perfected my pitch, and was able to get an opportunity to send a sample piece. I landed my first job the very next day! Thank you for the help and direction. I watched all your videos about freelance writing.
So, let's say finance is your niche and you're a freelance writer who writes solely on finance. Let's say there are a top 20 or 30 articles that finance websites request from freelance writers, wouldn't it be super difficult to keep coming up with different iterations of the same articles? Obviously, you wouldn't be able to use the same article for different websites. This is one thing I often ponder about niche-specific freelance writing!
Geez, am I glad to have come across this video. I was preparing to dunk myself into the fivverr /upwork murky waters (because everyone says that's how to get clients). Loved the outreach tip and I'm on it, like white on rice.
As soon as you said bridge business and how you explained that it’s “for those who want more free time to spend time doing hobbies” is what I related to from the get-go. Because that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I want to spend more time doing outdoor activities, I don’t want to spend most of my life working for someone else in that way. And I feel like freelance writing for others is the way for me because I love reading and I love writing stories.
You could totally do freelance writing for the industry, or also create a niche site around it. I think that would have the potential todo really well.
Cool, also, take the "Pressure" off. Write for a client or a few for "FREE" and use them as a case study or testimonial material or they can pay you for markedly obvious results...if they want you to continue writing gold for them...
I currently run a freelance illustration business and am looking to do a side-hustle in writing. The #1 thing I learned doing freelance illustration is that you really need to hunt people down who need art and offer yourself as the best option. Jobs absolutely do not just come to you right away in the beginning, haha xD

While there may be some fatuous-ness (is that a word?) with what I do here - the whole point is to try and be as useful as possible, while hopefully at least being slightly entertaining. So happy to hear you've got some value out of the content, and dont hesitate to let me know if there's anything I can do to keep pointing you in the right direction.
@@LocationRebel I am currently building my site and I am using your "17 things Your Freelance Writing Website MUS HAVE for Getting Clients" video as a guide. I was in sales for 25 years and your video on how to write a letter of introduction was brilliant It reminded me of the best lesson in sales I ever learned, "Be interested, not interesting". People are more interested in themselves than they are in me. When you let the customers know it is all about them the odds of closing skyrocket. Thank you for all your help.
@@eddyaruda486 I haven't heard that put quite so succinctly - but that's a fantastic way of looking at things and a great piece of advice!
@@LocationRebel Thank you for your kind words. I wouldn't presume to give advice to you. I merely shared a relevant anecdote that I thought you might find "interesting."
This is honestly one of the best videos ive seen on youtube. Thank you!
Great video! I recently left my full-time job as a UX writer because it didn't fit my writing style. I realised it much later! I'm not venturing into freelance writing and trying to aim for the best. Thanks for your advice and guidelines.
Great video-I've been doing it for 3+ years but haven't quite gotten past the $5K mark-the main problem is not being able to write fast enough. I'm only one guy! Totally agree about Upwork-useless platform.
Hey Sean- I really enjoyed this vid. Lots of good, clear, concise and realistic info. I'm in. Let's do this.

Hi there. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. Really informative.
I had watched the video until just before the step 6, 2 months later, now I know what I should do
I just decided this was the path I should try first. Of course, I needed to get a walk-through on how to go about it, and what a wonderful video this was for me! Hopefully I do well, and also love how you used 48 hours on your thumbnail! TH-cam stuff I guess.
Thanks!
I need to do this since I have a degree in English and am looking for a side gig

Loved the video, Sean. Super in-depth and realistic as always. It's the cold outreach part that stuck with me. I'm at the 40-email mark now and I feel frustrated already, haha! Thanks for reminding that it takes at least 100 of them before I can start to see things working in my favor.

Ha we have the same first name. Because of that I’m paying extra attention. I’m super interested in this field of work.
Thanks Sean oagle, I have downloaded your book.
Title says “Step by Step: How to Start Freelance Writing in 2024…” Yet the video was published 2 years ago… Hmmm… Suspicious. But whatever. I’ll watch.
🤣🤣My thoughts exactly. I wish you would have told me if it's worth the watch though.
😂😂kinda funny 😂😂
Titled 2024, description says 2023, published 2 years ago 😅
He updates the title every year but the content is still relevant
The information given in the video still applies in 2024. It makes absolute sense why he’d title it 2024. It’s smart.
This is so amazing thank you for being so generous with your knowledge xx
