- A Hat in Time is an amazing game, and learning how to speedrun it has been a ton of fun! It's been quite a while since my last A Hat in Time video, so it was really nice revisiting this game! May have to do an updated Lost Bits video some time in the future too!

Its jsut amazing to see indie developers finally setting the 3D platformer train in motion again, though AHiT will likely always be the best.
I love how hat kid saying "boop" can help her escape one of the traps set by an extradimensional being. Definitely going to be my next speed game.
Its actually the boop animation that cancels any other animation Hat Kid is currently doing. Hence why none of the other things you can say with the emote wheel do anything
As someone who has over 1.5k hours spent playing the game and is 22nd in any% atm, tysm for giving the game the exposure it deserves, it was a lot of fun tuning into one of your streams once, and I'm glad one of the most slept on speedruns is finally getting the audience it deserves!
This is easily one of my favourite games and it is the best 3D platformer of all time
I have 600hrs and still havent finished the game 😢

By far one of my all time fav games. Hat girl is freaking sassy and adorable and there are so many amazing characters.

Fun Fact: Paper Mario TTYD is actually one of the big inspirations for this game as well as Sunshine, SM64, and Galaxy.

Theres another game similar to "A Hat in Time" Which was in development before A hat in time was released, it is called "Billie Bust up", a musical 3d platformer based off Disney Musicals, It is still in development now. The music composer is the MLP composer: Daniel Ingram, the only song that has been released officially is "I've had enough of you" Sung by Michael Kovach, known for voicing Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel, and Serial Designation N from Murder Drones.
A Hat in Time is my favorite game of all time! I bought it for my brother a few years ago and it's without a doubt the best I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Although... I'm surprised that they don't utilize player 2 to get the key in "Down with the Mafia." I don't know if it's faster, but you could hypothetically just add coop and not need the bucket. (I played with my brother and we just skipped the bucket on our first play through on accident.)
This has gotta be my favorite speed game, it's so nice to watch get broken

I love how much maneuverability this game gives you, hands down one of my favorite 3D platformers.
The trick you used to get on top of the well is one of my absolute favorites. You can do it on basically any surface you'd normally slide off of if you have the No Bonk Badge equipped by diving into the surface.
Not only can you use it to do those fun dive-jumps, but you can slide against slanted surfaces almost infinitely if you dive into them at a angle. The best location to practice this is the dirt slope around the border of the subcon forest.
as a long-time speedrunner myself, it makes me really happy to see people talking about how accessible it is. it's a hobby more people should pick up, as it's a lot of fun!!
I've been wanting to but the problem for me is that I'm just not one for learning hard techniques
@@quantm3649 that's the best part about speedrunning, you can do it based on your own rules entirely! plus sometimes there are categories that don't even *allow* hard techniques in the first place, since other people aren't always into doing them either. give it a try with what you already know how to do, you might be surprised at how fun it is to try and beat your own times
haha i bought this game not so long ago, and i love it!
my only complaint is that the loading times are abysmal and i can't complain about performance since i have a very bad laptop and that i can run it above 20 FPS is a miracle

I wonder if there's a Hat in Time mod that turns Hat Kid into Mario and the hourglasses she collects into stars.
Better yet, one where Hat Kid is SpongeBob SquarePants, and the hourglasses are golden spatulas.
Well I know there's mods that put Cappy and the 64 wing cap in the game and there's enough character model mods that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mario one, so. Technically?

I'm sure someone would turn Hat Kid into SpongeBob as well as turn the hourglasses she collects into power stars and golden spatulas. Wouldn't object to a life size Plankton over Moustache Girl or Luigi as player two either.
The Hat in Time modding community is really awesome. There have been character model swaps for a really long time now, and yes, I can 100% confirm there are mods that enable you to play as Mario, Sonic, or other characters (some of these mods even change things like game physics, or give you alternate moves, it's pretty cool).
But even more than the alternate skins or game modes, where I think the mods really shine are the different custom levels created in the game's official modding tools. Some of them are just few minute long blue rifts, people's first try at creating a level, while some others are literal masterpieces with custom assets and/or a new and original story (non-canonical to the main game, of course).
Seriously, some of them look so good, you could easily mark them off as official.
In case you have the game on PC and like to try out a few really, REALLY good mod levels, I'd recommend:
- Gold Leaf Galaxy (Mario Galaxy level assets, free exploration, short and sweet)
- ConductorWare (Wario-esque micro game collection)
- Hat Kid Steals the Declaration of Independence (epic Golden Eye story with custom voice acting)
- A Hat in Crime (Ace Attorney like gameplay re-created in Hat in Time)
(these last 3 mentions were all made by a friend whom I befreinded through these mods, really awesome person)
- The Breathing Sea (a GIGANTIC multi-chapter mod with lots of exploration and custom abilites to help you traverse the areas)
- And, if you'd allow me a bit of a shameless self promotion, I tried partially re-creating the gameplay style of the Mario and Luigi RPG games (Superstar Saga, etc.), using Hat Kid and Bow Kid as your player characters. It's called Superstars in Time.
... sorry about all the rant, you could say this game is very, very special to me. And I do believe that the awesome mods/mod levels make up like 50% of the total experience A Hat in Time has to offer.
If you actually managed to read everything I wrote and might consider giving these mods a try... go ahead, and thank you. ^-^
@@Abelix95 TRUE it's amazing that Gears for Breakfast supports modding to the extent that they do, the phrase "official modding tools" isn't as common as it should be tbh
@@Abelix95 It's OK. I'm actually interested. I also saw on a separate video that you can play as Waluigi in a Constuction vehicle and Morshu all by himself. It looked cool.

My best time on any% is 52 minutes, so sadly not as fast as the top runners lol

I didn't know you were supposed to use the time stop hat in cheat the race and i'm pretty sure I just continually practiced it until i won by like a literal sliver. I used the little Motorbike tho

One of my favorite games! I'm really happy the Any% run uses Nyakuza Metro in it, as it's my favorite world in the game. The aesthetic and music are the best in the game imo, and I love how it's just pure platforming and no missions.

I recommend doing another A Hat in Time Lost Bits if you'd like! The TCRF Page got a COMPLETE OVERHAUL! And it is MUCH bigger. Not only that, but EVEN MORE was discovered!

i remember i was playing a hat in time and i was at the final chapter and i was at the lava pillars part and i aciddentaly did a very percise jump into the pillars which made me clip through the pillar and the lava and then i was so confused

It's great to see that having lag is a strat in Nyakuza Metro, I don't have a dedicated GPU so I'm constantly lagging in that stage anyway
I find it really interested that they just allow DLC without it being a different category or something.
Im working on chapter 3 snatcher and the conductor are easily my fave characters in the game

There’s a good video on the devs reacting to a speedrun on youtube. Just look it up. It doesn’t seem they intended some skips

I recently saw a video about how you can code Lego Mario to do other things, and one thing that showed was using Lego Mario to play Super Mario 64 so you should try to beat Super Mario 64 using Lego Mario as your controller

Ah yes a hat in time is a very charming and fun platformer. Just a shame it was somewhat overshadowed by mario oddysey which came out later that same year.

There is a glitch in the first boss if p2 joins during the fight P2 can walk in all directions instead of two this happened to me when I was playing on the switch version

Not sure! I haven't seen any top runs use it, so maybe the risk isn't worth the potential time save or something
