    I was told the proper was the high grip, but always reverted back to a lower grip because it felt right to me. It thought there was something wrong with me, but thanks to you NU, now I know that that might no be the case! I'm gonna 100% and try to perfect my lower grip this time and not feel bad about it.

    No TH-cam algorithm this time. Sensei guided me here (thank you sir). It's a bit technical for a novice amateur, but I feel the direction has something to do with the angle of the wrist and where I grip. I have to experiment, unlearn and figure it out now, a long process. But the joy of getting it right will be more. I feel myself like a very bad Ekalavya to guru Dronacharya 😅.

      I get the hang of it now. It's the pressure point that moves down instead of the hand. But will need some more practice to get it steady.

  • @BlasterKotakatik
    @BlasterKotakatik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    To be honest the grip angle is actually more of a preference and also depends on the flexibility of the wrist to be pulled back. Kisik Lee says that high and low grip (the grip angle not the bow hand angle) should be used the same aka they both use the same pressure point location which is low and on the right half side of the grip. The difference being is that a high angled grip with a low pressure point have a much more better torque resistance but it's also harder to use and requires more strength. Because of that reason most people opt to use either a medium or a low angled grip with a low pressure point because this grip angle helps to keep the shoulder down especially for people with not too good strength and also requires less muscle activation to maintain the angle. Another benefit it has with a low angled grip is that because it's less tiring to use it is actually more forgiving for most archers, so they should be able to go through a full competition or practice with lesser fatigue.

      Then what about the hitch hicker thumb? Compression from the draw weight should trigger the grip refleks

    • @b12khx89
      @b12khx89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mortenjacobsen5673 it doesn't work like that...
      Hitchhikers thumb is when the digit is hyper mobile and can be bent/pulled backwards (there's no way to highlight the word "pulled") ... Generally speaking the fingers/thumb only curve inward and usually flex as far as straight
      There are few people that I've seen that can pull or flex their thumb back hitchhiker style, Jake Kaminski has done it and the other is Brady Ellison.... Anyone else I've seen with hyper mobile thumbs are people at work pushing in fixings with their thumbs for 8 hours a day for the last 15 years... It may be natural for some but the majority I've seen is due to repetitive use
      For it to flex out/away you need to actively pull it back, you can't flex it outward by pushing/squeezing the inside meat of the thumb.... You would need to ask those that pull it back how much tension is in their hand
      I know Jake Kaminski mentioned intensity of level 2 with regards to squeezing the bow... Nu is probably a level 14... He even mentioned it on his new bowswing video right at the end, he's confused this squeezing for bow arm movement and justified the squeeze for a demonstration where the coach catches the bow without a sling... The fact is, there is some friction on the bow stifling the jump, Nu then rolls the wrist down and opens his hand to drop the bow, with a shorter sling it masks this issue which is why on his older videos you see his bow physically drop an inch when he opens his hand as the follow through (doesn't matter where the arm goes, he's grabbed the bow)
      The only way to check this issue is to shoot a few shots with a completely relaxed hand, let the bow be pulled into the hand and then let the bow do what it wants on release keeping the hand relaxed .... The reaction will be totally different.. Your hand can't react quickly enough to catch it and the whole thing will jump to the target

    • @mortenjacobsen5673
      @mortenjacobsen5673 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@b12khx89 i can bend my thumb, but i think the hitchicket was used as an analogt to explain that if you wrap the thumb around you get the grip refleks and your badicly holding the bow in place and creating uwanted tourqe preventing the bow to jump free. Kisik also says you must command the dog to sit to counteract the bow drop when the lift from compression disspears. I find that engaging the thumb strenghten the elbow joint and makes the pressure point less squiy

    • @b12khx89
      @b12khx89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mortenjacobsen5673 you will have to show me... I've just shot a few shots and the bow jumps fine... I can curl me fingers or leave them relaxed and the bow has direction towards to target and it is guided... With the hitchhikers thumb pulled back... Yes it gives more pressure forwards and its hard to balance this, upon release there's no guiding of the bow forwards and it is free to go which way it wants, just not as consistent
      With my normal pressure around the grip it is fine, there is no grip reflex, the bow is too quick to catch

    I disagree with your Comment about the swig not being the “”most important” part of the shot process. The follow through is a very important confirmation of a good complete shot process. The relaxation of the bow hand leading to a relaxed swing is very important.

  • @gizmonomono
    @gizmonomono 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That intro was good 😁
    What I'm noticing lately is that your olympic shooting is getting closer to a more traditional way in terms of grip. Like with a bow that doesn't have a pistol grip. Instead of supporting the bow with that part of your hand between your thumb and index finger, you push on it more with the root of your thumb. If I'm reading this correctly.
    And off topic, in your collaboration with Maydam archery, did they mention anything on how khatra affects the speed of the arrow?

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We mostly spoke of khatra for the purpose of arrow clearance (i.e. straightening the arrow's flight) rather than in terms of adding speed. In our discussion regarding modern vs traditional archery, we concluded that the principle of expansion lies very lose to how the release is taught. Both the expansion and follow-through in the modern shot cycle actually do reflect khatra - there is a simultaneous release in the bow hand. The purpose in modern archery isn't to effect better bow clearance, but to maintain tension. Going through the same step in the shot cycle allowed me to execute a much better subconscious khatra.

    • @gizmonomono
      @gizmonomono 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NUSensei I get it. The best results I got on my khatra was proper back tention, and a straight bow hand. And the result was straighter arrow flight than I ever achieved with a recurve. Which is why I love thumb release. No need to think about spine. Still need a lot of work on accuracy though 😁

    @SaneAsylum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My arrows don't care what the bow does once they're gone. If they did I could steer them with my bow (which would then become a remote control). The swing isn't follow through, it is gravity and physics. When you let go of something constrained only by a strap that has its weight distributed unevenly about that point it will swing. But again your arrows don't care once they leave.

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There might be a critical disagreement here. In saying that the bow simply drops implies that the bow arm, and the archer, is doing nothing upon the release: the archer is just holding the bow in place and the release is static. The dynamic release assumes the archer is going through an expansion motion, and the bow arm is moving forward, albeit only very slightly and only enough to complete the expansion and activate the clicker. The dynamic release will result in a follow-through in both directions - the string hand will slide back and the bow hand will push forward. The arrow doesn't care what the bow does after the shot, but it is driven by what the archer does before they let go, and the follow-through is a continuation of that process past the shot to ensure that it is completed fully and correctly.

    • @SaneAsylum
      @SaneAsylum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NUSensei Agreed to an extent but what you do before or after release is statically of little consequence to the arrow. Your extension before your actual release is likewise of no consequence so far as the arrow cares. Now I'm not saying that it doesn't help YOU to repeatably execute the same actual release (which occurs AFTER or perhaps even during the actual clicker fall). And yes you influence the movement of the bow almost not at all after the shot because you are not gripping it and the tension held between the bow string being gripped and the web of your hand pushing the riser forward has been 100% relieved allowing the bow to pivot around your strap or the web of your hand if still retained slightly. Release and follow through are 100% about repeatability and zero % about anything else. Because everything else (within reason) can easily be compensated for. You could have the worst form ever and pluck the string like a banjo and be the best shot in the world so long as you could perfectly repeat it every time.

    • @mortenjacobsen5673
      @mortenjacobsen5673 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SaneAsylum the bow should not pivot, and if the kinitec energi overcomes the inhertia of the bow there Will be movement and if the arrow is stil on the string it wil be affected.
