  • Hiking up Lions Head is an awesome experience to do while visiting Cape Town for a number of reasons:
    1. The hike is short and manageable
    2. The best views of Table Mountain and the City Bowl as well as Sea Point and Camps Bay
    3. It's free
    4. Open all year round - just pick a day with good weather
    5. Pack a picnic for the top and make a day of it!
Here's my guide as an unfit tourist of getting up to the top. Locals say it takes between 45 and 50mins. Don't believe them. Although it is short - it can be tough so be prepared for a good work out and some clambering and scrambling. It took me 1hour 50 mins to get to the top and another hour or so to get back down to the bottom.
Total distance is about 8km-9km (I didn't keep an accurate measure) with an elevation gain of about 700m to the top.

Just found your videos they're great! Thanks for taking the time to do them. It's refreshing to see someone who isn't an athlete completing these so I know they are doable! 😊

Yes they seem daunting but I think if o can do it most people would also be able to as well. The pace doesn’t matter at all, take your own time and enjoy the journey

thanks for this, great to see almost anyone is able to do this climb.

Yes I think up to the first plateau there isn’t too much scrambling and almost everyone can get to that point. Getting all the way to the top is tougher but can also be achieved even if the progress is slow

Ex SA here. That hike was my favorite. Have you ever come across any gangsters on Table Mt or Lions Head

So not while I have been hiking but there were reports of muggings on both table mountain and lions head last year. I think I mention in my table mountain video that it’s always advisable to hike in a group both from a hiking safety as well as personal safety point of view

Good day Wanderer! Another "breathtaking" video🤭
What a mesmerizing, spectacular sunset coming around the mountain!
It's a great trek. I wouldn't chance starting out in the dark though😬
The view at the top is worth the trek....(huffing and puffing)...I would do it!
Another great adventure 😁 Keep wandering!

Glad I could be of inspiration, even if it’s because “if he can do it, anyone can!”
      Thanks for always following along!

It was indeed! The wind to start with was making me think it wouldn’t be too good but then the sun came up just as I rounded the back of the mountain and it was glorious?

Loved this. I want to do this hike and been a little nervous about it. Would you recommend this for a solo female traveler? I considered buying a small group tour, but I don't want the pressure of trying to keep up with someone else's pace.

I am pretty cautious and would say join a group. There are normally many hikers on the mountain but it is always good to be with other people in case something should happen. There is some scrambling towards the top as well and a helping hand is always welcomed. Any guide who is any good will make sure to take into account everyone's pace and not rush anyone on the hike.

It took me about an hour and 50 minutes to get to the top and then another 45 minutes or so to get back down to the parking lot.
