On Tilly and on Abel's Ark did you experience problems with condensation? Did you have to pump out any bilge regularly? This video on winter heating is excellent.

Hello, condensation was worse on Tilly compared to the Ark because she was basically one room, whereas on the ark the condensation would be mainly in the bedroom (apart from boiling the kettle or dragging wet clothes inside!)
Like the temperature, if you could keep the fire at a sensible level it would really help with condensation.
If you pumped the grease into the stern gland you’d find it was mostly just the rain you would have to pump out of the bilge. I couldn’t believe how dry it would be on the ark of I had the stern covers up!

Well explained Dan but keeping warm on a narrow boat is generally very expensive because of the price of coal
I’m paying 18 quid for 25 kilo bag of decent coal as you no quality can vary
If it’s minus temperatures I could use up to three maybe 4 bags of coal per week plus the kindle and logs which I buy so can be quite costly to keep your stove going so it’s warm when u get home from work on a wet and cold day
Like you say boats will vary a lot as you’ve explained
I wonder what other people are paying as coal prices seem to be ever increasing as do mooring fees and licensing
    Worrying times m8

Last year I couldn't believe the price of coal... this year (as you say) I still can't believe the price of coal!
I was talking to a friend about it when we pulled up to a garage for food a couple of days ago. I can remember me and my grandad loading up his car with some decent quality coal in years gone by from a local garage and get multiple bags for less than £20. The stuff we were looking at the other day was 12.99 if I remember rightly and I just couldn't believe it!
During the "2020 incident" I would often go to B&M bargains and get the cheap (not good) smokeless fuel on my way home from work, 10kg bags, 3 for £10. Last winter they were £8 each!
Seeing £8 bags of logs and £6 kindling was a shock too! I was always lucky in years gone by to have a landscaper in the family, so he'd fetch wood to store at my grandads and then fetch to the boat during the winter.
These are definitely not good signs for the future!

@@SortOfInteresting I’ve used cheap coal from home bargains just under 7 quid for 10 kilo but it’s terrible tbh burns quick low heat and tons of ash so it’s false economy
Amongst the best I’ve found for me are super therm, winter blaze and the best is Nu burn all around 18 quid for 25 kilo nu burn is brilliant long burn low ash high heat
When I first started out afloat it was only seven quid for 25 kilo 9 years ago
      How times change m8
      Thanks for your reply
