id say it was the larger farmers themselves that sold out the public for supermarket profits and destroyed the land and nature and filled the enimals full of chemicals and gave us cancers.. or were they not part of all that?? they are just the poor animal lovers and land owners at governments mercy. yeah right. they are still using weed-killers etc on clarksons farm. should swap every one of them out for new young folk to start fixing it all. people are so naive

During the Top Gear years I formed the opinion that Jeremy Clarkson was a self indulgent child who, while hysterically funny, was virtually useless. After watching him work on his farm and coping with the difficulties he encountered that opinion has changed. Clarkson is proving to be the biggest proponent for farmers world wide and he is an inspiration for those that work the land to feed us. He has shown that the mentality of Government must change it's ways and start to help, not hinder, farmers if the world is to survive. Clarkson himself has now proven that despite what has been done in the past that he is a concerned and caring individual. I wish him the best in his endeavors.

Having just binge watched all three series I cannot commend it highly enough, it is as funny as it is sad. I am truly shocked at the vindictiveness of the local council, sitting before them a golden opportunity to raise awareness of farming life but instead of assisting they did everything possible to use their authoritarian control to shut him down and punish him, along with all that would benefit from his endeavors. Hats off to you Jeremy for having such reserves of tenacity and eye for opportunity. And yes, your tractor is too big!

Clarkson repeatedly lied on his planning applications and acted in bad faith. Take the restaurant barn for example. When they applied for the building for the farm shop, his application said the Owl Barn was unusable and unsafe. When the planning commission denied him building another eyesore of a building, suddenly the owl barn was acceptable. The show is a highly edited highly subjective view of the goings on. All of the council meeting and applications are available online for people to view.

And because of farmers we can’t build housing. 100.000 houses to short at the moment and it’s expected to go up.
We need farmers, we need food. But we don’t need a life stock big enough to export 80%… we need houses, we need a future. We need young people to have a house, to start a family, to have children!

That would be true, if our government actually ran the country. But it doesn't. Our gov are mere puppets and frontmen for the WEF and UN and Corporations. Our gov answer to them who are their bosses, they do not answer to us, the tax payers. Which they should. It's the same in all Western countries.
Therefore councils are the same, they answer to their bosses, and not to us, the locals.
I'm glad farming has become highlighted for the issue that it is.
      I need a farmer 3 times a day.
I do not need a politician 3 times a day.

We're farmers, and about 16 year's ago we applied for the 3 years temporarily permission while living in a caravan, all we got was endless rejection for anything we applied for, eventually they took me to court for living on our farm without their permission and the judge said i had to move off the farm, i said that that world make us homeless, which he responded "well in that case you’ll have to get the council to put you on the housing list"!!! You couldn't make this up!!! Needless to say, we stayed on our farm and have ignored anything the council says, and the only time that they came onto our farm since then was with a Warrant of entry, i pointed out that it was a fake warrant and that theres a 7 year prison sentence for using fake court documents, that was nearly 5 years ago and ive not heard a peep from them since!

Clarkson's popularity is a benefit to the farmers around him, and he knows it. He's made moves in his show to feature his neighbors' livestock and struggles. He's made some attempts to green, sustainable farming, such as integrating cows and chickens in an effort to reduce dependency on artificial fertilizer and moving away from monoculture farming.

Its called corporate farming here in the US. They lower or rid subsidies to zero, and when the farmers are upside down, corporations sweep in grab all the farms and tell the farmer they can stay and work their previous land for a salary. Then the government raises the subsidies so that the corporations make the money and plant what is needed based on consumer needs for a higher profit outside the US because they can make more money exporting than selling domestic. They are doing the same thing to healthcare in the US right now. Independent physicians cant survive anymore because of lower reimbursement and higher wages and supplies so they sell out to corporations that get all the grants and government subsidies. Farmers know the bad deal and now healthcare providers are experiencing the shift. Only the government and corporate dealers make the money. Wiping out the middle class.

Indeed ! In France exactly the same happens. Corporates buying up vast amounts of land, destroying life and communities in villages. The railways network was 4x larger 100 years ago, schools are dissapearing, country clinics closed. Only the elderly remain until they fade out.
The backside of subsidies is that it keeps the subsidized ones under control (red tape and regulations). The positive side can be indeed keeping social communities independent and your own food, land, nature etc healthy. And indeed the same happens in child care even !! (here in the Netherlands) health care, logistics, book stores etc etc. Globalisation is good for corporates and multinationals. They dont have borders and can shift money, assets and "work" to where it is the cheapest. Ignoring the ones with 1 passport and 1 legal system. They are caged to 1 reality

Aside from all the glitz, Clarkson is pointing a potential way farming can be transformed in order to serve local and regional markets. In this arena diversity really is strength. It will be tough for heavily invested conventional farmers to make the necessary changes, but it must happen if we are to feed ourselves. The conservatism of local authorities and the globalist project of destroying farming, makes the transformation in food production a herculean task. We all need to play our part in supporting farmers in this evolution.

I have worked as a farmhand in my youth in rural TX, including Dairy, start milking at 4:00am, Grain harvest, and Hay Harvest. We have a group in rural TX high schools called the “Future Farmers of America” and they produce some impressive results.
Our family was primarily supported by heavy haul trucking, but we also had pigs, a milk cow and bull calf, chickens, and a garden that was a *constant* battle. (I thought a sign at one huge Milo Maize field up the road was particularly appropriate: “Site of the daily *Dust Bowl* game-Farmers vs. Gophers.”)
We had to contend with pests like coyotes and wild dog packs living in the river bottom, so we’d saddle up our horses and hunt them, with shotguns and pistols, or we’d lose our livestock.
Never had a problem with a “Council,” but if 100+ angry farmers, still wearing sidearms in “Open Carry” fashion after a hunt, came to a meeting restricting their rights to farm on THEIR LAND, I daresay the restrictions would be lifted.
Due to the UK being run by know-nothings in office and arrogant busybodies in these Councils, I’d say you need a 2nd Amendment too!

That deal let's these countries on the other side of planet import meat into the UK which the UK farmer can't compete with and at the same time the UK government makes it harder and more costly for the UK farmer. UK needs to change this.

Australian and Kiwi farmers get no subsidies. With more arable land per head of population, I think that a place still exists for Aus/NZ farmers to help feed the people of Britain (who are in large part, our own blood ancestors). Certain foods can be produced here, easier and cheaper than in Britain. (Some foods like Citrus fruits/oranges, and Avocados, are not grown in England at all, (other than by enthusiasts in greenhouses).
Shipping by, well, Ships, when done in bulk is surprisingly energy and cost-efficient. In a perfect world, yes most foods should come from close to one's own home (but then, arguably, in a perfect world, the population of the entire greater British Isles should only be 10 Million people maximum anyway).
Farmers in Aus/NZ have significant challenges also. Some related to climate, (as lands of "drought, and flooding rains" a quote from 150 years ago).
Rare pests and diseases, bacteria or fungi are slowly spreading throughout the world.
The single one commercial variety of Bananas has already had to be changed once in my lifetime (I recall bananas 50 years ago were different) and the current main commercial crop variety is coming to an end as disease again goes through major banana growing areas of the world, as plant research scientists struggle to find a disease resistant type, which is suitable for large scale commercial growth.

@@KiwiCatherineJemma talking about UK farmers and citizens here ! Not down under. UK farmers are being priced out of there own market by the UK government! Farmers have been cutting back on what they produce for some time now. Uk government have deliberately made deals with these other countries to satisfy there agenda, aus, NZ, u.s and UK governments amongst others are in a war with China over Taiwan and the surrounding area that's why there is allied forces in Australia and New Zealand. That is why UK farmers have had there throats cut, because of the deal between these government allies. You have turned this conversation around as if it's about you! It's about the UK citizens and farmers. UK farmers and citizens should come first ! When it's about there food supply, about there lively hood, about there land and animals ! @@kjellrogerjgensen60 that is the problem! The governments are making what is a basic necessity in your own country a Global problem/nightmare. If you make it too expensive to grow food in your own country, red tape, legislation pricing you out of business and import from countries on the other side of the world your doomed. It also destroys the way of life around that farm. It drives local workers out of farming and the companies and farmers employ workers from over seas and cheaper rates and they can make them work longer and harder. NZ is bad for that and is going to get worse especially the farms and company's under the Frontera foot. This whole Globalisation thing is destroying communities and businesses and way of life all over the planet. And what makes it worse these governments and protesters on climate change, global warming, wild life and nature being destroyed by human industrialisation , sea level s etc etc are caused by this global industry of transporting food and goods all over the world at the cost of nature/environment and local communities expense. In the UK it goes further than that, in other industries and business, companies a lot of them owned by oversea companies are directly not employing UK workers, but are employing Portuguese workers to do the work in the UK, that's an example of one big power company owned by the Spanish! Globalization destroying people's for the massive profits of the global companie.

He rocks the boat and him becoming a farmer really made them have a shit fit. Honesty I wasn't expecting him to take it seriously but man he has and has taught the public about how farmers are being screwed over and that the farmers weren't not lying or exaggerating the realty of their business and job. Most management models are reductionist, which does not work for managing complex environments as found in farming and national parks etc. Training in Holistic mamagement makes it easier to deal with environmental compexities, many farmers and ranches worldwide have improved their businesses and lifestyle by training in Holistic management, especially many who initially were sceptical, but adopted managing the whole, out of desperation, often due to facing bankruptcy.

On the surface farming isn't complicated, just like getting a cargo or fighter plane to fly isn't.
The cost of Land, Machinery (and it's really complicated and expensive now), Government red tape (such as compliance and water extraction), and the inputs into the ground, plus the high cost of Labour, make farming a very expensive and complicated venture. And that's before you factor in uncontrollable variables like weather.
All of that is before you try to sell to corporations that want your product cheaper than ever before because they tell you they can get it cheaper overseas.
If farming was put forward as a business proposal, I doubt many would be successful in getting finance.
BTW I'm not a farmer but I understand the economics.
