      But this is a TH-cam show. The Tavarish factor in this theatre is not to be overlooked. He isn't someone I would pay to work on my car, Ferrari or not. Much like Tavarish his lack of knowledge and 'how hard can it be?' is what makes good viewing. In fact the worse it gets the better it will be for his channel.

    That yellow insulation looks like house insulation. That material hold water like a sponge. Whoever stuffed it in did more rust damage than one can imagine.

      I've owned similar a similar vintage 308 and a Mondial … I believe the fibreglass type of matting was factory. When I restored the Mondal it was soaked, leaking boot rubber. Fortunately for me there was only surface rust!

      Instead of replacement with the same thing look at dynamat and silent coat they sound proofing materials which will deal with heat better and do not absorb water and provide much better sound vibration isolation

    This is the stuff of my nightmares. I’m currently restoring my to-be daily (in my driveway and on axle stands as well) and I thought it was going to be an easy project, just a few parts to replace. That was until I removed the wheels and brake disks; the amount of rust took me by surprise and so far I’ve spent more time and money on rusty parts than anything else.
    Getting an original part from Ferrari might appease the purists but upgrades in these situations aren’t uncommon. Given it’s a simple flat surface, I would suggest you fabricate something out of aluminium to avoid this kind of rust in the future.

  • @cav4290
    @cav4290 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Easier if you remove the engine with sub-frame out - and while its out you remove the over-spray and aesthetically restore the engine (clean and paint pulleys, tidy up all the hoses, cables and clamps, etc.)

    You might think of making your own panel and gluing it in place with the 3M body adhesive and sheet metal screws. After the adhesive cures you remove the screws and fill the holes with more adhesive. I installed new rear quarter panels on my 1966 Galaxie and it worked very well.

    Its interesting how bad some of the welds are old ferraris, they look very home made, even right up to the testarossa they are pretty rough. The rust panel should be reasonable easy to fab if you can't find an original. Keep up the good work.

    2:32 I dont know what's weirder, that music, or the fact that I know that music, and yeah I know that stuff you found around the trunk, that's 1970's House Insulation, its the kind of stuff that's in my roof that needs to be redone, and if this was pooling, and this is the bottom to the floor of the trunk, or around it you gonna need to change the rubber around the latch and make sure the drain holes arent plugged around the seal, as that looks like the outter skin that goes around it.
    or even SEE if their is any drain hole, as I know that on american cars alot of the time why they rusted out is because their was no drainholes and the water just pooled, or they were just flat out ineffective
    hence why cowl replacements are common and well known on most 1960's and 70's muscle cars.

    I know the "restore a Ferrari on a shoe-string" is part of the appeal but I do take issue with the way you work. The place is a tip, the cars are filthy, you're creating pollution with the degreasing solvents and there's no protective workwear for you. You can obviously do as you please but it sets a bad example. Working on a car in flip flops is bad news, at least you use axle stands.
