Casio need to chill a lil' bit with all the blackout business. Bring back colour accents! The OG version has more character than this new version, although I do appreciate them giving us this sort of re-issue in the first place.

A reissue with Multiband 6, tough solar, and most importantly RED buttons, would be an automatic buy from me. My wallet is thankful they haven’t done it yet.

Great review, I got the all black 5500 with positive display, solar and multiband 5 when it first came out and the camo version which has the basic module. Both cracking watches.
Wow! The 5500 really disappears on the wrist. It’s obviously a big watch but it really nestles in so well. A 40th anniversary reissue with the red pushers would be fantastic!

I've got the glx version of the 5500. One thing you can't emphasize enough is the stiffness of the buttons :They are not just stiff, they are *extremely* stiff.
Last time I wanted to synchronize it, I had to remove the back plate and push the buttons from the inside : no matter how hard I pushed from the outside, the watch would not go in setup mode. Arnold Schwarzeneger had one : I understand why it had to be him.
Those GBX’s have the shiny resin don’t they??:/ well you need to try my Mudman!!!
So not just mud resistant, but also wearer resistant...wow.
I have the same GLX-5500-1DR model you described with glossy pattern black resin, which wears off to the bare white resin easily. the shroud buttons are so stiff and next to impossible to press, whenever DST changes, it takes me half an hour and alot of sore finger tips to get that done. i like the form of that watch and indeed wears very comfortably but i don't ever wear that watch because i can't even get the LED on at night, making this G-shock essentially useless

Now that is an absolute "STUNNNA!" love the fact that it's squat so it will fit a small wrist fairly well... would be awesome in either a clear or grey colourway...I'm.sure casio will have more colourways sorted real soon. Great video as always...been smashing it lately Russ 👌

My 2013 GX56 has big red stiff pushers and a negative 3221 module.... its a big boy 53.5 wide n 16.5 thick
That's a really nice screen. I had a Casio with a negative screen for a while, but it was a lot dimmer than that.
Yep couldn’t agree more. I put off buying one of these as I thought it looked a bit numb and bulky and after watching your video bought the Rasta 5500 the screen is easier to read as well. Oh also what is your name? so you can cop the blame for the purchase of a few too many Casio’s to my other half. Seriously brilliant videos as usual. Always fun and informative 😀😀
I own a GW-5510 with multi band 6. Used to be my only watch for years. Still loving it but not really wearing it. Thanks for the great video ❤
Not sure if this is even possible, but in lcd calculators I used to flip the polarised filter to get a negative display… could the screen be made more legible by doing the same in this beauty?

I am fed up with the Steinhart. Tomorrow I will sell it, along with other 2 Seiko's, a Presage and a Seiko 5 (7s26, no hacking). I will only keep my Seiko Sarb 035 and my square G-Shock with Multiband 6, Bluetooth and solar battery. I am done with collecting watches, it is an absurd waste of time for me. But I enjoy your video's.

Just found my long lost G14RL after years in the bottom of the wellie box. Covered in mud and still going. About 20 mins off. It's 2006 and has negative display. I only knew what that was because of the MWC.

I've actually got an original DW5500C, but the the bezel is long gone. A few years ago I bought a re release G5500(Beams X Gshock ) to see if the bezel fit - sadly it did not.
My favorite of the squares is the G8100. World time, alarms, stopwatch as same in this video. All black negative display but with dual illumination and auto-illuminate.

If you are in the mood to tinker with your watch. You can turn your negative display into a positive display, you just have to peel off the polarised filter strip.

So glad I picked up a G-5500-1JF while it was still unpopular. It's the tough solar world time version (with red buttons!) Keep your eyes peeled for one of those. It'll tick all your boxes.

If they don't release a version with the red buttons I hope there are at least an aftermarket option where you can swap those out! Bring back those retro accents!

MWC you forgot about the 2006 G-5500 which has a positive display. I got mine on a shopping proxy site in Japan last year for a bargain.

It is hard to make an educated guess without wear and see the watch, but I still prefer my gw-m5610 or my casio AE-1200-WHD with my SKXmod casing. But now thanks to the video I want to wear them. Very funny video as usual 😂

I own this Casio. Numbers feel smaller than a regular square ( could just be an illusion though ). Really hard to read in negative form. Buttons hard to press... I wish I could get the positive red button version like Arny but seems discontinued.

Ahh The New Coke of G-Shocks. Was supposed to be the new improved version of the original square like New Coke was supposed to be but alas both were destined for the dustbin of history. I hope you are right about the reissue coming in 2025 however I am also still waiting for a true reissue of the DW6600. Fingers crossed.

Oh good Lord. I just started to learn about mechanical watches, now I’m going to have to fall down a Casio / G Shock hole. And yes progress is always good. Well not always…
Not a square fan but this one has a bit more heft. If it had a positive screen I'd look at one. If you want comfort I recommend the old stainless steel bracelet designs. I just got a solar atomic MTG m900 from Amazon US and it's a great old school G-Shock.
Nice watch, but negative display is a deal breaker for me.
If you switched the modules, would the new watch have the proper solar chargers? I might have this all wrong, so forgive my ignorance.
It would be the whole module swap and the front of the face are where the panels are . Not sure I can be trusted to do it though!!

I actually love negative displays. I really don't understand why everyone pans them. I've heard people say they're hard to read, but I really don't find them difficult at all.
