Old Abandoned Log House Exploration: Hidden Fireplace In Basement

  • Today we explore an old log cabin that was abandoned sometime in the last century. The house was a mess, but it was interesting to see the old and varied construction of the home that included a fireplace in the basement. The limestone and brick chimney was also a pleasant surprise for me to see.
    About Aquachigger:
    I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
    metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my TH-cam "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.

      Chigg....hat thing on the porch you said "was not a computer," was a...."kapitchulator," (ka*pitch*u*later; a device used to surrender a persons asperations and/or their auras) from or to the astral plane of the, "wow man, cool, groovy, far out and solid type" existence, of the psychedelic plane in the 1960's to the early1970's, crazed mind-bending, drug induced, love and groovy experience type thingy, that nobody understands or remembers to this day! I always enjoy your old house explorations. We live in an old farmhouse, the oldest part dating to the 1890's. Another part dating to 1909. There's a cistern under the side porch. I need to rebuild the filter basin that caught the water from the troughs and downspouts. We also have a shallow well lined with clay tile pipe, in the 'Mudroom' of the house. Our main water supply though is a 400 foot deep, drilled well. Great water, but high calcium. It always makes me a bit sad to see those old homesteads lost and forgotten.

    • @48thstateprospecting
      @48thstateprospecting ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would have to disagree as it’s not a complete circle and the lamp would be at risk of falling out. I would say it’s a fire extinguisher holder which are open for quick removal of the extinguisher. It looks like there used to be a countertop underneath it so that may have been the kitchen possibly (outlet at counter height for a toaster?…)

    This is the first time that I've written to you. I've watched your videos for several years, and I generally enjoy what you do. I'm writing in regards to one of the still photos that were at the end of the video. You showed a Lanternfly. Although it is probably futile, please tell me that you squished it. They are highly invasive and are spreading across the eastern US.
    They were introduced in a shipment of landscape materials to Eastern Pennsylvania from SE Asia. I saw them in Pittsburgh last summer, so I'm not surprised that you're seeing them along the Potomac.
    Anyway, take care and have fun exploring.

    This is the second time I've heard you mention that going up the stairs and peeking over the top is the scariest part of exploring abandoned places because something or someone might be standing there waiting for you. I hadn't ever thought about it, but you're certainly right, and I think even if I hadn't heard it, i'd still subconsciously be worried as I went up stairs, and I bet most people have that fear without knowing it.
    So all that being said, I suggest that from now on during these building explorations you should take abandoned clothes that always seem to be in these places and use a bit of junk to hold the clothes up in a human shape that people don't see until they peek over that top step. You'll give the next explorer the thrill of a lifetime and a great story by spending 5 minutes making a scarecrow lol

    My husband was replacing a window in a house his grandparents bought in 1915. The original house was built in the 1850’s or 60’s. Like what happens in projects of older homes he needed to pull more old boards off and could see something in the wall. It turned out to be a draft size horseshoe someone had placed there for luck. It worked! The house never burned. I now have it displayed and wonder what year it was placed in the wall.
