    Being a Brazilian kid in the mid 2000s, I recognize basically all of these exclusive cards. Most of them through Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories and the rest of them through pirated cards (originals one were really expensive for low class families back then).

      I played a bunch of Eternal Duelist Soul and the other gba games around that time too. I didn't realize that lots of these cards didn't exist in English until much much later. I always assumed they were In early packs like LOB and MRL, but I just never pulled them.

    I do like how a lot of retrains come from these old designs.
    Reshef of Destruction as a kid made me not realize some of these were OCG only.
    Akakieisu would probably be my favorite design to be brought back.

    I won't lie, I do love the old way ocg cards would structure the attack points and flavor text. I don't know why but to me the way the cards were set up really helped exemplify these cards being ancient like how they are in the anime and manga.

  • @TheEvilRayquaza

    i remember a bunch of those old ocg exclusive cards from The Sacred Cards game for the GBA, as many of them were in the deck you start the game with. Shoutout to Doron turning into an effect monster that can clone itself, and a much weaker Revival Jam who had the same effect in this game.

  • @zeemaster99
    @zeemaster99 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    If I had to choose 5 to get imported, I'd have to go with:
    - The Wandering Doomed for the Skull Servant rep
    -Gate Deeg because it reminds me of a prototype Il Blud
    -Boo Koo because funny and the name just rolls right off the tongue
    -Madjinn Gunn because it looks awesome
    -Dark Chimera because I don't feel too strongly about any others and you said you wanted it lol
    Honorable mentions go to:
    -Cyber Commander, Tristain's favorite card in the anime
    -The recolored scorpion counterparts, Nightmare Scoprion and Giant Scorpion of the Tundra which pair nicely as messed up arachnids with the other recolored counterparts, Kumootoko and Hunter Spider
    -Ancient Jar, Morphing Jar's long lost counterpart
    -Dokuroizo the Grim Reaper, though I do like Reaper of the Cards better

    I love the old art style. These weird monsters are so much better and more creative than the endless stream of the same old girls we get now. Saying that, it is good to see some of these old cards getting retrains as Millennium and Illusion monsters. Some of them are also available in Duel Links too.

  • @HybridAngelZero
    @HybridAngelZero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    It's so weird that these haven't been made available, especially Horn Imp and Torike (Torike was in Yugi's deck in the manga in Duelist Kingdom) but even more so because I have such a strong nostalgic attachment to these because I spent a lot of time with the GBA Yu-Gi-Oh games, and other titles such as Dawn of Destiny.

    I loved the artstyle of old-school Yu-Gi-Oh. Back when zombie cards ACTUALLY looked like zombies with rotting flesh and exposed skeletons like Bone Mouse and Corroding Shark. There were also other card artworks which looked pretty HARDCORE, like the OG artwork of Last Day of The Witch which was an obvious reference to the Salem Witch Trials, there’s also Resurrection of Chakra which featured a naked woman in the process of being sacrificed, which was a grim reminder that they are called “Ritual” Cards for a reason

    It's strange to think there was a short period of time where there was two Yugioh card games at the same time. Because the movie also released with the last set of Bandai cards. Clearly there was a transition period. Early OCG cards even look similar to the Bandai cards in their layout, with the three boxes at the bottom for attack, defense and text.

  • @Shadowrulzalways
    @Shadowrulzalways 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The thing is, Konami never wanted Yugioh OCG to be like Pokemon at all. Remember, both series aim at a different age demographic.
    For starters, Yugioh OCG (or Duel Monsters in lore) is based on MTG (Magic The Gathering) as confirmed by the late Kazuki Takahashi. R.I.P. 😇
    And MTG is card game that mainly targets a teen player base (13+). And the Yugioh OCG is aimed at ages 12 and up. That’s a standard teen rating in most countries (including Japan). As “12 and older” is often associated with early teen groups.
    In fact, if you go to 11:56 on the bottom right corner on the back of the 1999 Starter Deck set, you will see the age range listed by Konami that says; “対象年齢12才以上”
    (Translation: “Target age 12 years and older”)
    Which implies it’s for at least early teen players.
    You can translate it on any translation app and it comes out the same. And I had some Japanese speaking friends of mine confirm it for me.
    Not only does this confirm that they’ve been targeting an early to late teen demographic since 1999, but even to this day they still do. As I even own modern OCG packs to prove it.
    Also the Yugioh manga and anime are Shonen. Shonen is often used as a demographic term for manga and anime that primarily target early to late teen boys roughly between 12 and 18. Which is why Yugioh was so dark in both the manga and Japanese version anime.
    Even Weekly Shonen Jump is confirmed to be for that age demographic since the beginning of it’s publication and this was confirmed by the former chief-editor Hiroyuki Nakano. He confirmed this back in 2017-2019.
    He just recently retired, but that doesn’t chance anything he said, of course.
    Why this matters, is because the Yugioh TCG and 4Kids entertainment, tried to market the series towards young children by censoring everything they could. Which in my opinion was completely stupid. They did the same thing to other anime as well.
    And thankfully, 4Kids aren’t a thing anymore. But I just feel many Western Yu-Gi-Oh fans completely aren’t aware of this because they’re so stuck in their nostalgia of the shitty 4kids dub and they ignore what the original Japanese Yugioh was really about. And given the game’s complexity back then and now, it’s obvious Konami made the OCG for a teen demographic. Even their official OCG tournaments are age restricted.
    Because their lowest bracket called “challenge” is for junior high students (12-15).
    Mid bracket called “regular” is for high school students (15-18) and the highest being “expert” which is mainly the adult bracket. That’s why Konami made Rush Duels as the only true adaptation for children. And the anime spin-offs that promote it.

    A lot of the normal monsters just need someone who love nostalgia in the office to push these to be imported in some way. In time the TCG will get the 151 normal monsters via a side set or core set import, or even if they return to Speed Duel some day which was a good way to import them which I loved. On top of that 100 Normal monsters have a recolor to make 200 different cards.
    I love normal monsters and these are the only ones I am missing for a special binder so I hope one day TCG imports them so I can complete it.

    I wonder if any of these cards will make it into the Memento archetype. I could see cards like Ganigumo, Mammoth Graveyard, Dark Shade, Horn Imp, Torike, etc being good Memento cards.
    Also, Id love for Doron to make it to the TCG. In one of the GBA games, he had an effect where he lost half his atk/def to spawn another of him, meaning you got a free 2 tribute summon if you kept him and his clone on the field for a turn. He used to be an MVP for me and a Doron Memento could be used to help with bodies on the field for link summoning and the like.

    When it comes to the collab cards, they have the issue with licensing agreements.
    Konami cant just ask Lays and call it a day, ignoring whatever agreements they had with Calbee. There also comes the issue of if they want to do the same style of distribution globally (Include them with chips), they also have deal with regional divisions.
    The Power Pros one might be tricky. Since while it was developed by Konami and published by them in Japan, the 1 out of the 2 games that were ever released outside of Japan was handled by 2K.

    These should all be treated as Tuners just to give you a reason to use them today... probably wouldn't be good enough but it would be something to make them not completely useless

    LaLa Li-Oon probably didn't get ported because its acid rain makes it very dangerous.
    The very first set had no Tribute Summon. That rule lasted before the "first" Starter Decks.

    For the record most of these cards, if not, all of them are not competitively viable, but the fact that they are nearly impossible to obtain even in the OCG because the only printing of them are ridiculously old is Ludacris and I think that there should be easier access to some of these older cards for all players of the game just so that the collectors Can scratch their OCD itches

    They is some cards that only got TCG printings in US but nowhere else in TCG too such as. All the Mcdonalds Happy Meal promo cards and the Kakuzi Takahashi 10th Aniversary Redrawn artwork cards inluding the new card for that set Shiba warrior Taro. The card metal Shooter all of of its reprints was US only but US never got the rather Pointless DS game it was a card promo for either like rest of world making it one of hardest Super Rare game promos to find in English.

    I'm curious where you got these translated names from. Some of these have different names then what the card says which makes sense, but if we never got these cards I wonder where the translation comes from. I love these old cards artwork

    But, we got at least some of those cards eventually, right? I mean I recognised some of the artworks. Or was that just in the video games like "Link Evolution", where one starts with some of those cards?

      A lot of cards that would have been included in this video, had I made it say 2 years ago, we're imported to the TCG through Speed Duel. Other than that, in the physical card game, these have all remained exclusive to Japan's OCG. And outside of Japan, most were able to use these cards in the video games, primarily the early NA adaptations of Japan's games.
