@@Pepesmall Thing is.... Yugi didn't cheat, magic or no... in fact, I'm not even sure he used magic to make the first game a shadow game. He definitely didn't do so for the second. Mokuba just kept underestimating the effects of the little guys, and thus kept getting caught off guard when one of them used their abilities at the perfect moment.
Whenever I play this game, and especially on my first playthrough, I always go for the monster kill win. I always just thought "Why run after the symbol way in the back when they just brung their monsters to me?" Plus, it just feels good wiping the board every time. XD
I think, worth mentioning as you brought up your surprise at Mokuba being a higher ranked enemy than Joey, that in the pre Duel-Monsters manga ("Season 0" era), Mokuba's game of choice was Capsule Monsters. I had this game when I was younger, though I didn't end up playing too far. I always thought the game had a really dark and ominous atmosphere for a Yu-Gi-Oh game.
Thanks for pointing this out! I learned this only and the last stages of editing this video, but it‘s cool to see how early this idea of capsule monsters came up in the manga.

Wow this brings back memories I don’t remember even paying attention to field effects but i did use few special abilities, i shocking this game wasn’t given sequel or remake the OS were phenomenal and game style is addictive, I would like to see female monsters only challenge as fan service cause there’s few enough for real challenge.
Yeah I feel you! A sequel would be nice, but at least we have the Libra Mod which provides a lot more challenging content. I like your idea with female monsters only, I‘ll try it out sometime in the future :)
Another spinoff where Kuriboh is surprisingly good. Fastest monster in the game. Stack three Multiply on it and then just spam its special move for massive AOE.
@@RedDragonForce2 Real glass cannon though. I paired it with illusionary gentleman and dark king of the abyss for their special moves that lower attack power. Keeps kuriboh alive and dealing insane damage.
My answer to that favorite villain question in Final Stage section goes to PaniK. Big guy was that menacing, the "messed up" ATK and DEF points on his monsters mirrors his messed up personality. Quite terrific to imagine what would happen to Mai if Yugi didn't come in time to save the day (or night) by that time. Agree though early YGO villains being batcrap crazy. Lots of them willing to kill just to win in children's trading card game while Season 0 villains were literal sickos. Edit: seriously lol'ing at the PP jokes. Kinda expecting to hear Dark Magician Girl or Dark Elf having bigger PP than Kuriboh.

The Exodia pieces one is a great idea. Maybe one where you cant level up(or as little as possible) but get to use whatever monster you want? A regular Libra playthrough would be cool too No idea if thats even possible though
I played this game very casually as a kid. As an adult playing it again, one monster I ended up really liking is Kurama. I did a Wind Monster Only run (thinking not having attribute diversity would make the game harder. Which I learned was the exact opposite) and Kurama ended up being the MVP of my run along with Harpie Lady. So if you do another challenge run, maybe try it with Kurama. Or maybe Petit Dragon.

Ngl sad nobody made a mod that would replace monsters in this game with 3d models of the ones from the og monster capsule breed and battle Or make them more chibi and cartoonissh like in that game I don't really like the statue look at monsters have in the this game Yeah ig they do looks better like this with the context of them being chess pieces But I really dig the concept and ascetic of simple gacha minifigures that Kazuki Takahashi cooked up for the manga and first game
With regards to the question about which villain to look at first I will recommend Pegasus. Reason being that his character is grand. It would be a swell viewing experience.
Capsule monsters has to be my favorite yugioh game produced its good to see content for it. If you need a challenge Im doing the campaign with only 2 capsules.
No idea why the elemental rock paper scisors keeps being drawn with Earth so far over. There's clearly just two cycles of 4 elements. Earth > Thunder > Light > Dark > Earth. Wind > Water > Fire > Wood > Wind. I guess if they just made the two cycles any more obvious people would not care, by putting Earth so far to the side it looks like the two cycles are interlinked it makes it seem more interesting.
I assume it might be a leftover from older titles. In Yugioh Duel Monsters 2 and 3, they had a similar system that included a few more elements. In that system, earth and Thunder were actually part of the „elemental“ cycle while Light and Dark were in a different cycle with „Fairy“ and „Demonic“ or something like that. Maybe in the early stages of development they assumed the elements would be aligned differently, but who knows. Either way, they should‘ve cleared it up for the 2 cycles to be easily visible!
Some challenge run sugestions its to limit your pieces based on a character? Like using Joey pieces in his battle(Or that its logical for him to use like Red Eyes)
A exodia piece run does sound cool! Maybe even allow yourself to fuse them during the run if you can. Trading 5 pieces for one piece could make an interesting choice to make.
God this game was so amaziing back in the day. I wish they followed up on it, or the campaign was a bit longer. Maybe the NPCs get stronger like NewGame plus or something. Not just the player upgrading, since the base run is simple enough. Just realized while watching: the music hits different.
I wish they included a few team blueprints with a fair balance of creatures to play against your friends. My friend picked red, and I chose blue. He loses. Surprise!
I've found out about this game last year from gameboylad. I've been planning to give it a try with the libra remaster mod. I'd like to watch more challenge videos.

In the manga, yugi and Kaiba had a duel before the exodia one(Kaiba had only one blueeyes which he stole from yugi). Mokuba had his goons(which were children his own age) kidnape yugi to challenge him to capsule monsters. Then the whole Kaiba land thing happened, were yugi and friends had to go through a series of deadly trials in order to reach the top of the tower and challenge Kaiba for the duel with exodia and the three blue eyes like in the anime. The second to last trial was a rematch with Mokuba in capsule monsters. Though it needs to be said that both Kaiba brothers were huge cheaters at that point.
Ive been emulating this game and trying to give some monsters to fresh save files. But not every monster can be a ante/prize monster. Know why? Or the restrictions for it?
Beat the game with the worst monsters (functionally) of whichever sign you chose. It should show off more unique monsters, and give a real challenge in the actual strategy. And do it with the libra mod.
You actually play individual pieces and fuse them way later into the campaign, if at all. The real challenge is the fact that you only get 1 single piece for the first 5 opponents. Let‘s how far I can get before I have to use additional save files haha definitely stay tuned for the next video!
@Din-Oh could be fun. You got a penguin soldier that can evolve into Penguin knight, flying Penguin and bolt Penguin. Knight could be your boss, and the other 3 you could have 2 of each, not to make it absolutely impossibly hard. Or something like that!

He did duel in Duelist Kingdom, but he just used a stolen deck and just tried to steal starchips in the end without completing the duel.

The soundtrack just unlocked a core memory. I used to play this so much as a kid, grinding out max levels and fusions to complete the collection.

You can increase PP size with Big Evolution Pill... but if it lasts beyond 3 end phases, please call a doctor.

You can play it on your PC via an emulator. There is a mod called Libra mod for it with 50(?) unused monsters
