One of my earliest childhood memories was being with my father at the Killarney race track near Cape Town. Geoff Duke and somebody else, no memory of who, sorry, rode these wonderful machines. I remember the sound but not the colour of the bikes. The local ace was a guy by the name of Danie Joubert and he was on a Norton. He did not win.
I saw these magnificent machines at Brands Hatch in the sixties. John Hartle led and Phil Read second on Gilera 4s. A beautiful sound and way ahead of the field of Nortons and Matchlesses etc that made up the rest of the field.
