  • In this video I unpack and unbox my brand new Hauptwerk organ setup! I chose to buy a 3 manual organ from a dutch company called Noorlander, I opted for their Avanti III model. However, there are many other companies that also have compelling options like fx. Mixtuur, Content and many more.
    Having bough a Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ, it comes with many new aspects to learn so I speak about the computer, the keys of the organ, the pedals, the organ console and lastly we take look inside the organ to get a sense on how it's built.
    Unboxing my Hauptwerk organ was quite easy and now, I can't wait to show you demonstrations of sample sets, play organ music and much more!
    All the music played in this video are played by me.
    The first piece is the 3. movement from the Trio Sonata i E flat major by Bach. The second is Dupré's version of Bachs Sinfonia from Cantata 29, "Wir danken Dir Gott, Wir danken Dir" (BWV 29)

    Wow - congratulations, Philip, and thanks for sharing the moment!. It looks absolutely amazing - and I can tell how delighted you are with your new acquisition. As the proud possessor of a practice organ that is over 100 years old - an Estey Type E reed organ, with 2 manuals and pedalboard, which I'm slowly restoring to a reasonable level - I can only be hugely envious when I see what is obviously a quality Hauptwerk instrument like yours! Seriously, I'm really pleased for you, and I look forward to hearing the organ in action in the near future. Enjoy!!! John

      Dear John. Thank you so much for your kind message. Of course you do miss the charm of having a real acoustic instrument, but the practically (and sound) is so ideal, that it's great solution if you don't to use too much time on transport and the like. So far, it was been so much worth it, and I look forward to bringing you more content. Thank you John!!! 😌

    A few years ago I assembled a Hauptwerk organ (not nearly as nice as yours) using parts shipped from Canada to Los Angeles. My bench also had slight shipping damage, but not enough to bother sending it back. My bench looks very similar to yours but I discovered that it is too narrow to hold much of the music I have. I just checked out your most recent video and see that you are making very good use of the organ. I'll look forward to enjoying more of your performances.

      Dear Daniel. First of all thank you for your kind comment. I would say that my Hauptwerk solution is to the pricier side but I haven’t regretted it at all - I am sure though you can get an excellent solution with a tight budget. My bench can hold a lot of scores but not nearly all of them, so I just choose the most relevant music I am currently working on. I plan to make a review video of my Hauptwerk organ so hopefully that will go live in a month or so. Stay tuned! :-)

      I agree that the packaging was bad. Luckily the damages were not major in any way - and to be honest, I very rarely notice them nowadays. @@philipaggesen Thank you too for your kind reply. I think you refer to McLaren Formula One - named after the great New Zealand racing driver Bruce McLaren who also designed his own cars. He was approaching greatness until he was killed on the track. I am a New Zealander too but no relation.
      It is a little isolating as while we do have a small organists body there are very few Hauptwerk systems as we have no back up or service agent apart from what is offered on line, There is now a huge problem with shipping capacity to NZ and I would have to wait a year for it to arrive. Shipping costs too have risen sharply . A pre built Hauptwerk system like Noolander or Content is an advantage as there is back up from the manufacturer. I have been impressed with Content organs, the reviews, videos and sales staff who are very helpful. I had not heard about Noolander until your post (thank you ) and would be interested to know what made you choose your organ over other makes such as Content, Johannus and Viscount. It may help me in choosing the best option for me. As yet I am undecided as I really do not wish to make such an investment and then have to wait a year. ( Before Covid it was about 3 months) It would be too much to then find it damaged on arrival.
      But I am delighted for you like so many others and perhaps a little envious but I really would love to hear you playing your organ.

      @Stuart McLaren
      WOW, that’s a long delivery time. 1 year! That’s brutal to wait that long.
      The reason why I chose Noorlander was through word-of-mouth. One of my colleagues had bought the same model, and so I went to visit him and try it out for myself. I was quite impressed and having the real-life impression won me over. Now - I do think that Viscount, Content and the other vendors do make nice organ so I don’t think Noorlander has a particular edge over the others. For me, I just felt pretty safe having tried it at someone I know and respect.

    Thanks so much for your tips in your video; I'm still looking for which Hauptwerk or Sweelinq organ I should buy. I have another question: re. your Noorlander Avanti III, have you got both Sweelinq and Hauptwerk on your oragn? Am confused because you were playing Franck choral no. 3 with the Cavallé-Coll hauptwerk sample from Caen, but Avanti III is a Sweelinq organ, I thought? Still trying to get to grips with it all!

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dear Anna. First of all thank you for reaching out. I would gladly help. I just checked Noorlanders homepage and weirdly enough it looks as the Avanti organ has gone from a Hauptwerk to a SweelinQ organ. In my book that is a clear drawback as Hauptwerk has many many more sample sets to chose from AND you don't have to pay a recurring monthly subscription price. I would first contact Noorlander and hear if the Avanti model can be ordered with ONLY Hauptwerk. If it cannot, I myself wouldn't buy one but find another retailer.
      My Avanti III is an Hauptwerk organ only and I have not installed Sweelinq on it. However, in theory you can have both systems running on the same organ. That will require either that it is implemented by Noorlander themselves OR that you yourself is knows a bit about computers other than the basics.
      You can find my email in description text of my channel. Please don't hestitate to contact me further if you have more questions.
      All the best,

      @@philipaggesen Sir, my comments weren’t intended to be just kind, that are statements of fact. Your playing of Frank and other artists speak loudly of your intrinsic God-given talent and your musicality; Sir it is awesome. So many players use our precious literature as show pieces for their talent not to transcend us into the mind, thought and spirit of the piece and the intended purpose of the composure. We must, as true vehicles for the recreation and presentation of a work of art, immerse ourselves into the “what is the composer trying to say with this piece?” You do this so evidently! Otherwise, it is like trying to show people a Mona Lisa by standing in front of it. Also, do you think that your instrument is the best one for your purpose; gotten re: financial concerns or the best one possible? Does it sound externally or just through headphones? Also, a man with your abilities could play Max Reger so well, I am sure. His music has always fascinated, enriched and edified me in a way only Bach can do. His complex harmonies and gargantuan architecture and counterpoint is taunting, daunting, challenging and worth every minute! Only Bach can equal this. Would there be any reason why you would be concerned that your instrument couldn’t provide what is needed? I derive so much pleasure from listening to his music while studying the scores. When doing this, you can draw a greater understanding of the mind of a monumental talent. His modulations and profound harmonic densities would have been truly only appreciated by JS himself. His “Variations and Fugue on an Original Theme” is something you can really get lost in and its conveyance is a joy. God bless and I hope you will respond.

    Hi, how long does it take to switch on a Hauptwerk organ? How many steps?

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi ASCENDU. Welcome to my channel! Well, you just push the power button once and then the organ loads up. I would say my model takes around 1 min to loud up. Quite fast!

    Congratulations! Did you also considered to by a hauptwerk organ from the Mixtuur company instead of the Noorlander company?

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Noa. I think it came down to word-of-mouth. One of my colleagues showed me his Avanti III organ and I think that did it for me. I was also pretty sold of having an integrated solution as regards to the touchscreens although it of course comes with some downsides, which I will tell about in a future video. Content and Mixture also delivers great quality and I think both companies will do an equal good job.

      @@philipaggesen i’d live in The Netherlands and still play a Johannes organ, no hauptwerk. I also think Noorlander delivers good quality organs. Mixtuur organs are a bit more expensive. Unfortunetaly there are some damages on your organ. I see forward to your next video.

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should properly also take a look at Content as well. They seem to be as high a standard as the others. Remember that you can - if your organ has MIDI - make your own Hauptwerk with your computer. It does not have to be an expensive solution 😌

    • @noax8383
      @noax8383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@philipaggesen i have MIDI but i’d prefer an all-in-one system like Noorlander. The Avanti 2 seems to be a nice organ as well. Do you know the difference in price between Avanti 2 and 3?

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Noa. I have just found some prices via kisselbach.de = 9.999 vs 12.499. I would recommend getting the 3 manual IF(!) you know that you will be using the organ for actual performances and not just practising. In a month or so I will be making a "Hauptwerk setup" video, where I tell the pros and cons on getting the setup I have gotten. But basically: if you get an intergrated solution you also limit you abillity to customise your setup. That can both be a plus or a minus.

    Where does the sound come from? You have to have your own external speakers?

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment. It is a glorified MIDI-keyboard where I play on already recorded sound. It is called Hauptwerk and it's awesome! The sound is coming directly from the computer, which is tucked inside the console.

    That's what you call a decent Hauptwerk organ, of course sturdy Dutch quality...
    But the most important... which sample set will we hear, since that's what we will listen to ;)

    Not surprising it was damaged in transport. It was very badly packaged. Just some plastic foil, not even bubble wrap, let alone a box.

    Your video is very nice...
    But how much does an organ like this cost.
    I live in Italy and I don't know where to buy it. Can you help me with a link? Where can I also find the two touchscreen monitors?
    Thank you very much and good music.
